Our Lodge is known throughout the county as the top contributor to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Since mid- November our members have been bringing to the Lodge new, unwrapped toys for children under 15 years of age. The demand for assistance will be very large this year as over 20% of the children in Indian River County live in families in poverty. For many needy children in IRC this is the only gift they will receive. A few years ago, Rosie Woodall, one of our bartenders who has since passed in a tragic automobile accident, started the tradition of donating bicycles. We've kept that same custom alive with your generous donations through the years. Remember, if you're going to donate a bicycle, you need to include a helmet with it. Other toys are appreciated as well. Help us make Christmas for the children of Indian River County a joyous and happy event. We will also be conducting a food drive for needy families in IRC. We'll have a collection box in the Lounge. Can we count on your support? The clock of their days has stopped. Upon its dial, the motionless shadow of the hour of eleven. Section 2 (b): Regular Lodge Dues; second (2 nd ) paragraph: The regular Lodge dues shall be $ per year, which shall not include the Grand Lodge per capita fee, the Grand Lodge per capita insurance assessment and State Association dues. Article X: FEES AND DUES Section (d) Associate Membership (omitted) Lodge does not accept Associate Memberships Proposed Change Section (d) A Member in good standing from another Elk s Lodge may be granted Associate Membership for a fee of $25.00 per year which will run from April 1 to March 31, each year. Article V: ELECTIVE OFFICERS AND DUTIES Section 5: new language, add to end of the section: All checks issued by the Treasurer shall have 2 signatures. The Treasurer and/or the Exalted Ruler, an appointed Trustee.

3 From the Grand Lodge Newsletter December Issue Message from the Grand Exalted Ruler MICHAEL T. LUHR Enjoy holiday festivities but beware vacuum effect December is here and it s time to enjoy our carefully planned holiday celebrations. What s your favorite holiday event? Is it a special dinner with family and close friends? Is it an office celebration? Is it rooting for your favorite college football team during bowl season? Or is it a special holiday function at your Local Lodge? Maybe it s all of the above. Like any important holiday event, a successful Elks Memorial Service program requires careful preparation. This solemn event, held on Sunday Dec. 2, is an opportunity to invite non-members to honor the lives and contributions of our dearly departed Brothers and Sisters. This is our chance to show the public that Elks are never forgotten, never forsaken. With so many Lodge activities in December, it s important to maintain focus on January to avoid the vacuum effect we sometimes experience after the busy holiday season. Start planning your January events and make sure they re posted in your Lodge Bulletin in order to maintain the high levels of excitement you established during December. Now is also the perfect time to update entries for All-American Lodge Contest A. Go to elks.org and locate these forms under the Fraternal Committee section. When you fill in the entries, you will likely discover that your Lodge is doing even more than you thought. Keep updating this form each month, and be sure to send it to your DDGER postmarked no later than March 15. Save a copy so you can compare it to next year s contest entry to see how your Lodge is progressing. This contest is your opportunity to proudly track what your Lodge does for your community, so use it to increase your visibility in a positive way. December 31 is also this year s ENF grant deadline, so you should already have plans in place to use these grants to help your community and improve the image of your Lodge. Your Auditing & Accounting Committee should also be preparing for its January report. The end of another Elks year fast approaches, and it s important that this committee maintain a high level of focus. Barb and I sincerely hope you have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a Blessed New Year. We also hope that you enter the new year with resolutions in place that will make your Lodge stronger than ever before. The time we spend Working Together To Make A Difference will undoubtedly reap major rewards. Membership rises but delinquency remains an issue As of this writing, the November Membership Report has been tentatively closed with the Order showing a gain of 3.6% (27,431) for a midyear total of 798,370 Members with 9,925 candidates. The downside is that we have 9.9% (75,957) delinquent Members. Continued emphasis must be given towards retaining those lapsed Members. The Memorial Building is closed until April 15, If you or someone you know are planning on being in Chicago over the winter, give a call and staff can give you your own personal tour of the National Headquarters. Let s remember why we became Elks and share that with our fellow Elks Happy Holidays Message from the Chairman of Board of Trustees: We need our members. Participation in lodge events and dinners has been low. What can we do to increase interest? After a slow summer season, we need to support our lodge. We realize our members have many choices on where to go for entertainment. However, if you want our lodge to prosper, we need our members to participate. The House Committee is working very hard to create interesting events and various choices of menus and bands to entertain you. These bands charge a set fee no matter how many people come out to listen and to dance. We have to pay them even if a meal is cancelled for lack of participation. Please let us know what you are looking for in meals and entertainment. Also, please consider volunteering to help serve, decorate, prepare a meal or help on the door. We have some wonderful holiday events coming up. Please sign up early and plan on attending. You will have fun and the lodge needs you. See you at the lodge. Thanksgiving will be here and gone before this message is published and the joys and blessings of Christmas will be in full swing. In December, our lodge is still very active with delicious dinners, fabulous music for your dancing and listening pleasure and our bar games including Bingo, Queen of Hearts, Kards 4 Kids, bar poker, left-right-center and the ever- popular Trivia Night. Stop by your lodge and enjoy the beautiful decorations and holiday festivities! Bring a new, unwrapped toy for our Toys for Tots drive and brighten the holidays for an underprivileged child. We still have 77 delinquent members (17 of which have resigned but by statute, cannot be dropped from our roles until March 2019). If you know a member that is delinquent or you are personally on the roster, please contact the Lodge Secretary with your intentions or remit a check for your dues now. Every day it is important to remember why we are members of the Elks. We are a nationwide community service organization of nearly one million American citizens. We love our Country and desire to preserve its cherished institutions, traditions and values. We respect our neighbors and constantly seek to promote their well-being. We love and enjoy life and believe this enjoyment is increased by sharing it with family, friends and all with whom we come in contact. Your Part: Get a team together (4 people max) or go it with less, your choice! If you need help building a team let us know and we can hook you up with others.. Give us a call to let us know you re interested. Also at least one team member must be an Elk (in good standing). Our Part: We are going to come up with a HUNT list that you will complete in a certain time frame. Certain items on the list will be worth more than others, but you will know this when you see the list. When you come back to the Lodge we will check you back in and total up the teams.
