Both meetings are conducted in the Christ Our Redeemer Parish Hall at 7:00 PM. Fourth Degree members of Council and Council 7667 comprise Assembly The Fourth Degree Assembly convenes on the third Thursday of each month, alternating meeting locations between Christ our Redeemer Parish (even months) and Holy Name of Jesus Parish (odd months). Our History In June 2004, the Knights of Columbus conferred the Charter establishing Council at Christ Our Redeemer Parish. On July 1, 2004, our first Grand Knight, Len Casey, convened the Council s inaugural meeting and fraternal year. The Council earned the Star Award that year and Double Star Awards each of the next five years. In , under the leadership of Past Grand Knight, Jack Starr, earned the Best Florida Council (Division II) distinction. In 2009, Sir Knight Dave Halupowski was honored as the State of Florida Knight of the Year. 1

2 From the Grand Knight s Desk Happy Easter, my Brothers! Christ is risen! His resurrection is our redemption. His victory over death is a source of ever-lasting hope for those of us who strive to follow His example. As the returning warmth of the sun revives the land around us, Christ s rising bring us spiritual renewal and strengthens us for any challenge that this life may offer. Praise the Lord! With the closing days of April upon us, we have yet another important reason to be joyful. On Sunday, 27 April Divine Mercy Sunday our Holy Father will canonize Blessed John XXIII and Blessed John Paul the Great. The positive and far-reaching impact these pontiffs had on the universal Catholic Church, and upon the worldwide human condition, are almost unfathomable. All of us living today enjoy the outcomes of the Vatican II Council, the astonishing legacy of Pope John XXIII. And all of us, too, bore witness to the unmatched strength and humility of Pope John Paul II. These Vicars of Christ reshaped what it is to be Catholic and the Church today is a brilliant reflection of their wisdom and courage. Council will honor this important event by gathering in prayer at 10 am prior to the 10:30 Mass that Sunday. Our Fourth Degree Color Guard will serve during Mass afterwards, and I encourage every Knight to take part in this momentous occasion. Celebrate this season of hope and redemption, fellow Knights. Vivat Jesu! Rod Culkin General Assembly Meeting Minutes April 3, 2014 Meeting Opened with a prayer led by our Deputy Grand Knight. Roll Call: All officers present or excused. Excused officers Included: Chaplain, Treasurer, Lecturer, Inside Guard, Trustee 3rd year, Trustee 2nd year. Visiting Officers: included our District Deputy Joseph Purka 1. Minutes: Minutes for March were approved as published. 2. Applications for Membership: Admissions committee: On past Saturday hosted 1st degree... Seven new brothers, 5 from council and 2 from council One form 100 and one Transfer. Motion Passed to proceed with the admission of the two new members. 3. Grand Knight Report: - Many brothers including the Chaplain absent due to funeral of Brother Knight and Deacon and Tuskegee Airmen, Retired Chief Master Sgt. Walter Richardson. - Council 7667 at Holy Name of Jesus hosting 2nd and 3rd degree on Saturday the 26th of April. - March activities to walk in Christ's footsteps. Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities Fundraising Drive. Four target charities received $ each. Council Lenten soup night Friday. Saturday Spaghetti dinner at Holy Name of Jesus and Sunday at 7:30 AM is corporate communion Knight of the Year is Leonard Smales. 2

His active involvement in this year s Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities fund-raising campaign undoubtedly enabled us to enjoy the success we achieved. 7 Insurance Corner Long-Term Care Plans Offer Peace of Mind Since its addition to the Order s product portfolio in 2000, long-term care (LTC) insurance has provided the Knights of Columbus with an excellent opportunity to further serve members and their families. 8 Saint of the Month May 2014 St. Joseph the Worker (c. 90 BC between 3 BC & AD 18) Feast Days: May 1 st, (St Joseph the Worker), & March 19 th, (Husband of Mary) Patron Saint of: Americas, Cabinetmakers/Carpenters/Craftsmen/Laborers, Canada, Catholic/Universal Church, Against Doubt & Hesitation, Croatian People, Dying People, Engineers, Expectant Mothers, Families, Fathers, House Hunters, Immigrants, Married People, People who Fight Communism, Protection of the Church, Social Justice, Travelers, Unborn, Vatican II, plus many more. Apparently in response to the May Day celebrations for workers sponsored by Communists, Pius XII instituted the feast of St. Joseph the Worker in But the relationship between Joseph and the cause of workers has a much longer history. In a constantly necessary effort to keep Jesus from being removed from ordinary human life, the Church has from the beginning proudly emphasized that Jesus was a carpenter, obviously trained by Joseph in both the satisfactions and the drudgery of that vocation. Humanity is like God not only in thinking and loving, but also in creating. Whether we make a table or a cathedral, we are called to bear fruit with our hands and mind, ultimately for the building up of the Body of Christ. The Lord God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it (Genesis 2:15). The Father created all and asked humanity to continue the work of creation. We find our dignity in our work, in raising a family, in participating in the life of the Father s creation. Joseph the Worker was able to help participate in the deepest mystery of creation. Pius XII emphasized this when he said, The spirit flows to you and to all men from the heart of the God-man, Savior of the world, but certainly, no worker was ever more completely and profoundly penetrated by it than the foster father of Jesus, who lived with Him in closest intimacy and community of family life and work. Thus, if you wish to be close to Christ, we again today repeat, Go to Joseph (see Genesis 41:44). In Brothers of Men, René Voillaume of the Little Brothers of Jesus speaks about ordinary work and holiness: Now this holiness (of Jesus) became a reality in the most ordinary circumstances of life, those of work, of the family and the social life of a village, and this is an emphatic affirmation of the fact that the most obscure and humdrum human activities are entirely compatible with the perfection of the Son of God.this mystery involves the conviction that the evangelical holiness proper to a child of God is possible in the ordinary circumstances of someone who is poor and obliged to work for his living. (Ref: Hammer this into your little head, try and convince yourself of it: Our Blessed Lord loves me, with all my faults and failings, and has marked me out for the special graces which will make me a saint, a big one if I like. With this ideal before you, which you must reach if God s plans are not to be spoiled, try and remember that sanctification means daily, hourly, hard work, and this unflinchingly, when weariness comes. (Quote from quote from Fr Doyle: 8

9 Fr Doyle s quote brings to mind the famous prayer that St Pius X wrote to honour St Joseph. We would profit immensely to reflect on its sentiments. O Glorious St Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labour, obtain for me the grace to work in the spirit of penance in expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honour to employ and to develop by labour the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty; to work above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so destructive to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O Patriarch St Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity. Amen!
