The meforshim ask: How is it that in éú çá úùøô we learn about the rewards for keeping the Torah and mitzvohs if it is well known that àëéì àîìò éàäá äåöî øëù, one does not receive reward for performing mitzvohs in this world, but rather only in àáä íìåò? There are many answers given. The Chasam Sofer says the following: True, there is no øëù for the àôåâ äåöî, the äåöî itself, but there is øëù for the àçøè (or úåìîò), the trouble one goes through to try to do a mitzvah. If he has to travel or work hard, etc., even if he doesn t end up doing that par!cular mitzvah, the øëù is s!ll awarded. If someone is hired to do a par!cular job, he will only get paid if he actually completes the job. When it comes to Torah and mitzvohs, even if one does not complete the mitzvah, he gets øëù for the äåöî ìù àçøè. The øëù listed in this parsha is for the äøåúá úåìîò, immersing oneself in Torah. The à ùøäî says in ïéùåãé úëñî that àëéì àîìò éàäá äåöî øëù is meant for an individual, ãéçé, who does a mitzvah, as opposed to a group, øåáéö, that is involved in a mitzvah, there is øëù. The reason is that an individual may regret doing a mitzvah, causing the øëù to be given in vain, whereas it would be unusual for a group to have a change of heart about doing a good deed. The most important øëù the Torah bestows upon those performing a mitzvah is íåìù, peace, as men!oned in éú çá úùøô. One can have everything, but without íåìù, they have nothing. I would like to take this opportunity, par!cularly before Shavuos, to thank the Board of Directors of YBH, who as a øåáéö put forth such huge e"orts on behalf of the faculty and students of our yeshiva, by working!relessly as a øåáéö, modeling the theme of íòåð éëøã äéëøã íåìù äéúåáéúð ìëå in a most e"ec!ve and e#cient manner. We thank them for their áìáù äãåáò and wish them all the brachos men!oned in this week s parsha and more. Of course, we greatly appreciate the fact that their wives allow and encourage them to take part in the mitzvah of äøåúä ú æçä. May the íìåò ìù åðåáø shower brachos upon our esteemed President, Dr. Jonathan Gold and the Chairman of the Board, Rabbi Yehuda Muehlgay, for leading the way. The parsha ends with æçúðå æç æç. Let us all be æçî ourselves in êåðéç úåðáäå íéðáä and see the light in the äøåú øåà so that we may pass the torch to the next genera!on äçîù àìî áìá. I would like to give credit to the sixth grade girls and seventh grade boys who displayed beau!ful middos and Kiddush Hashem during their trips to the Javits Center for the World Stamp Show this week. Their stellar behavior and respect shown to their guides make us all here at YBH very proud. Thank you to Mr. Nagel, Mrs. Sommer and Mr. Cooper for accompanying the students and to our friend and stamp expert, Mr. George Kramer, for making this exci!ng trip possible. Wishing you a wonderful Shabbos, Rabbi Berel Leiner, Menahel

3 MORAH STERN S YEAR END REVIEW Dear Parents, As we approach the Yom Tov of Shavuos and the $nal days of school, morohs and talmidos at YBH are not just coun!ng the days but con!nuing to make the days count * As I re+ect upon the year, I would like to share some of the highlights and ini!a!ves that enhanced the learning experience of our girls. We further developed con!nuity and mastery of Limudei Kodesh textual and Rashi skills by $ne tuning and administering grade level assessments at the beginning, middle and end of the year. Over the past two weeks, as I observed classes, it has been rewarding to see the girls at all levels demonstra!ng independent learning pro$ciencies by u!lizing the decoding skills they have mastered. Morohs have demonstrated di"eren!a!on of instruc!on by preparing leveled assignments and grouping of students to address the learning needs of all students. Morah Davis assigned her seventh grade students a perek in Chumash to learn independently by delving into Rashi and comparing meforshim to explore their textual and analy!cal skills. The result is a crea!ve project that is displayed in the lobby that truly demonstrates their knowledge of the perek. The Safa Ne ima program that we implemented for the elementary grades has allowed the girls to build their Ivrit vocabulary and gain greater understanding of sentence structure in systema!c and crea!ve ways. Over the course of the year, it has been a nachas to see the chiburim hanging on the bulle!n boards as well as the projects designed in Ivrit. There have been many hands on ac!vi!es that have helped the girls gain verbal +uency of the language. I was invited to a party hosted by Morah Weiss fourth graders last week, during which they made fruit salad while speaking only in Ivrit* As the girls advance to middle school, they con!nue to develop their ability to speak and write in Ivrit in their a0ernoon Ivrit class. By 8 th grade they are familiar with all 7 binyanim and are well versed in the language. The greatest sa!sfac!on of all is hearing how well prepared our alumni are for their rigorous high school curriculums. I am proud to say that YBH morohs are part of a learning community, as they avail themselves of professional resources throughout the year and con!nue to meet over the summer to re+ect and plan for con!nued success. As we strive for academic excellence, a key component of the curriculum is ins!lling a connec!on to learning and inspiring the girls to grow in their Avodas Hashem. The excep!onal lessons and programs created by morohs individually, combined with co-curricular ac!vi!es implemented throughout the year have had a great impact on our students. Yasher koach to our fabulous G.O. and the en!re 8 th grade for a year $lled with ruach that was expressed in the many programs they orchestrated. With the theme song I can be.. ringing in our ears, the message that each girl can achieve greatness in Avodas Hashem will endure and encourage growth throughout their lives. The programs are opportuni!es for spiritual and social growth that generate teamwork and achdus among the grades, as they unite in fun-$lled and meaningful ways. On this note, it was heartwarming to witness the unity among the students in grades 1-5 as they enjoyed a kumzitz around a bon$re in celebra!on of Lag B omer last week. The edible bon$re candies they made were enjoyed by all. A special thank you to Mrs. Greenspan for joining us and providing the music for our program" What a pleasure it was to reward the middle school girls for comple!ng a minimum of 29 hours of chessed with a trip to Twisted for refreshing ice cream treats* Many of the girls exceeded the required minimum amount of hours and gave of themselves for the bene$t of others in excep!onal ways* As K lal Yisrael prepared for Kabalas HaTorah by achieving the highest level of achdus, ãçà áìá ãçà ùéàë, may our e"orts bring us closer to this goal as we prepare for our own Kabalas HaTorah. Have a wonderful Shabbos & summer* Mrs. Chana Frumit Stern Assistant Principal 5G enjoying candy bon $res NIGHT OF THE ARTS PTA CORNER We're so happy to see the outdoor courts in full use. Thank you to Rabbi Perlstein and Mr. Nagel for coordina!ng and a huge thank you to Mr. Friedman and his crew for making it happen* Thank you to all the parents who have helped the PTA provide so many wonderful things for our children. Looking to spice up your Shavuos menu? Want home cooked food but don't have!me to make it all? 4 A Peek Into Our Week: Morah Kronenberg s Kitah Vav: The sixth grade girls are eagerly preparing for their upcoming Bas Mitzvah presenta!on. They have enjoyed learning and crea!ng their scrapbooks with Morah Stern and they are looking forward to this meaningful celebra!on. The girls have become pro$cient in their Chumash skills and it's beau!ful to see how far they all have come. We look forward to a wonderful remaining few weeks of school. ECD HIGHLIGHTS Mazal Tov to all our Pre1A children on receiving their "rst siddurim. May your te"llos be answered and may your love for learning & Ahavas HaTorah con!nue to grow. Mrs. Ginsberg s First Grade Class: As the year winds down, the $rst grade girls are working hard and learning many new things. In math, they have become pros at reading both digital and analog clocks. We made paper plate clocks and played games on the Smart Board to reinforce our lessons. We will be learning about currency and the value of each denomina!on and will put our lessons into prac!ce by shopping in our own classroom store using real currency. In Language Arts, each girl will write to a classmate that we will mail at the beginning of the summer. First grade has been an exci!ng and fun learning experience. Mrs. Trainer s Fourth Grade Class: The fourth grade class took an exci!ng trip to the Meadowlands Environmental Center, where we learned about the most relevant star - the sun. The girls learned many prac!cal ways in which energy from the sun can be used. They were then given the opportunity to build a house and see how the sun a"ects it during the summer months and the winter months. A0er the interac!ve lecture, the students par!cipated in a variety of outdoor centers in which they learned about the solar system. Thank you to Rabbi Wieder for enhancing our experience by joining us and sharing his extensive knowledge in a fun and enjoyable way. Yummy siddur cookies 4G trip to the Meadowlands Environmental Center Mrs. Sober s Middle School Language Arts Classes: Reading class novels broaden the students horizons as they learn about major historical events through the eyes of young women who are much like themselves. Learning to connect with these courageous and hopeful protagonists, our students also learn about the e"ects of the Holocaust (Anne Frank, 8G) and Taliban rule in Afghanistan and its impact on women in par!cular (The Breadwinner, 7G). 6G is similarly reading about a brave teenager whose moral compass brings jus!ce to her community (Tuck Everlas!ng). The literature we read helps to inform our middle grade students perspec!ve as they begin to think about their larger role in the world and the impacts they will make. The students also research and write about topics they have chosen that relate to these class novels and thereby enrich their understanding of the historical and social context. In the process, we con!nue to re$ne expository wri!ng skills. Merging their literary competence and wri!ng abili!es, our students are developing both deep and comprehensive language arts skills. Have a wonderful summer break* Morah Rennert s Pre1A class se#ng their bu$er%ies free Morah Gold s Kitah Hey: We are currently learning parshas Yisro, about Matan Torah, which corresponds with the arrival of Shavuos. We will con!nue learning about the Aseres Hadibros with Rashi and meforshim. Our curriculum works perfectly with the!mes of year, as we learned about Yetzias Mitzraim in Parshios Beshalach & Bo in!me for Pesach.
