3 Middle School Girls What a great week! The relaxing weekend really gave the girls a chance to resst and get their energy back, and they've gotten right back to their learning since Monday! Mazal tov to the Fifth Grade Girls for finishing Perek Vav in Chumash! The girls enjoyed a fun review game of "Sorry" on the smart board to prepare for their test! To review the details of the Chanuka story in preparation for next week, the girls enjoyed a super fun game of "Right Left". The girls started the game right away and played until the only one left was the winner, Baila Gabay.Great Job! Mazal tov to the Sixth Grade Girls for finishing Parshas Sh'lach!! The girls are looking forward to a special Chanuka siyum to celebrate this accomplishment! Another Mazal Tov to the sixth grade girls for finishing the first set of the Lamed Tes Melachos! The girls have learned and mastered the 11 steps of baking bread and their Lamed Tes Melachos scrapbooks beautifully depict each melacha involved! The Seventh Grade Girls finished learning the first bracha that Bilam gave Bnei Yisrael and are curious to see to Balak will react to this unexpected turn of events.the seventh grade girls also enjoyed an engaging and challenging hangman Tefillah game as they reviewed the pesukei d'zimra! Every girl in the class joined in the fun, answering questions and taking a turn guessing letters! In Machshava, the seventh grade girls are enjoying the chance to learn about friendships and hearing their classmates perspectives on the topic. Mazal tov to the Eighth Grade Girls for finishing perek chaf delet in Chumash! The girls were happy to say good riddance to Bilam as he gave his final warning to Balak! In Navi, the eighth graders are enjoying learning about the diffrernt keilim of the Beis HaMikdash, and are working hard on their group projects! With the Chanuka Production just a few days away, the eighth grade girls have also been busily doing the last minute preparations for what is sure to be a great production! With Chanuka just a few days away, we are looking forward to all the excitement that is sure to come next week! Stay tuned for details! General Studies Update We are excited to welcome Mrs. Heather Cole to the Middle School General Studies Department. Mrs. Cole is an experienced science teacher who strikes a wonderful balance between rigor and support as well as traditional instruction and hands-on learning. We have also really appreciated how hard she has worked to help students transition smoothly to having a new science teacher. Welcome to CHDS, Mrs. Cole!!! The Middle School General Studies Department is about to begin our work on skills. We will spend the next several months identifying each skill we current teach in mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts. We will also identify other skills that we should be teaching so we can begin strategizing where, when, and how we ll introduce and teach those skills in our general studies curriculum. To be clear, skills refer to a broad range of abilities such as writing, reading, note-taking, time management, listening skills, etc. We believe that this intentional, focused work will pay significant dividends for general studies program as well, of course, for our students. Lastly, our goal is to produce a one or two page skill sheet for each subject in each grade. We want to produce something that Rabbi Pam can share with potential new families, and we want something that can serve as an easy-to-read reminder of skill goals in each subject area. We will share these documents with parents later this year. Early Childhood News As we gear up for Chanukah the Early Childhood classes are in full-gear! With Winter approaching as well as Chag Chanukah our classes were buzzing with activity. Some of the highlights from the last few weeks: -The new (and old) additions to our faculty: Ms. Cole as the new seventh grade science teacher, our very own Dr. Franks as the new sixth grade science teacher, and Mr. Polasko as the sixth and seventh grade math teacher. -Rabbi Scherer taking the winners from the air force museum scavenger hunt for a special pizza lunch at KINNERET CAFE. -The completion of our SECURITY SYSTEM. -Last but not least, our biggest highlight was the COLONIAL DAY, arranged by the seventh and eighth grade boys. The younger classes enjoyed it immensely, and staff members and parents were impressed at their hard work! The boys are all proud of their job well done!
4 WW Create Your Jewish Legacy CHDS is currently involved in a community wide initiative called CYJL, Create Your Jewish Legacy. The end goal of this effort is to secure endowment commitments for the school to help ensure that CHDS will be here for future generations. These commitments are non-binding in nature and do not require participants to specify the type or magnitude of their gift. All that is required is that one complete a letter of intent (LOI) indicating one s resolve to remember CHDS in their estate planning. If CHDS is successful in securing another 15 of these commitments before the end of the calendar year, the school will automatically be eligible for a $15,000 grant. Please see the flyers at the end of the newsletter which provide more information on this important school project. For more information feel free to contact Rabbi Travis or any member of the CHDS Board of Trustees. Thanks very much.
