3 Early Childhood News Happy Adar Alef! We enjoyed a Rosh Chodesh treat from the PTA on Wednesday- thank you to our dedicated PTA! Everyone still managed to find plenty of time to enjoy the snow. This week's second highlight was the trip earned through our behavior initative- sixteen boys qualified. Thank you to Rabbi Scherer for arranging, chaperoning and taking care of all aspects of the trip. (And for everything you do on a daily basis to make school so enjoyable!) Thank you to Dr. Franks for chaperoning. Finally, we held the much anticipated elections for student council, and the winners are... Kalman Weinrib President Ari Smith Nosson Freed Yehoshua Ottensoser Nachi Kahn This week we will spotlight the eighth grade. The eighth grade boys have been visiting perspective yeshivas over the past month. In an effort to keep the material fresh in their minds, they took a midterm on all the gemara learned so far this year. The current sugya deals with the laws of produce losing value and the watcher's responsibility. In chumash we are moving through parshas tzav as we become experts in hilchos korbonos. Halacha class is weaving its way through hilchos tzitzis, with hilchos tefillin to follow. Our weekly emunah, beur tefillah and parsha classes are always a highlight. We have begun a unit on public speaking as each week a boy prepares a dvar torah and shares it with the class. The eight grade boys are currently completing a unit on narrative writing. The boys are each writing their own fables which will be turned into children's books and shared with primary students this Spring. Our literature focus is on our new class novel, Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Next week the boys will compete in a class spelling bee based on words they've studied this school year! We are looking forward to prizes and some healthy competition! In science, we are continuing study of forces and motion. Recent topics include types of friction and the differences between weight and mass. In math, we are solving basic types of functions using graphs and proportional relationships (a good review and extension of some 7th grade math). Middle School Girls What a wonderful week! Even though we missed school on Tuesday due to the snow, we still had lots of learning and excitement this week. Mazal tov to the Fifth Grade Girls for finishing perek perek yud alef in Chumash! The girls are working hard on a makkos project where they have to create visual, and edible representations of the makkah they're assigned. They also are really putting themselves in the shoes of the Yidden in Mitzrayim as they write in their journal as if they were witnessing the makkos! Mazal tov to the Sixth Grade Girls for finishing perek yud zayin in Chumash! Now that it's been established that shevet levi was chosen to do the work in the mishkan, the girls are about to learn the twenty four privileges of kohanim in exchange for their service. Another Mazal tov to the sixth grade girls for finishing perek tes in Navi! With Shaul now annointed as king and given the signs by Shmuel HaNavi, the girls are eager to see what happens at the public annointing! Mazal tov to the Seventh Grade Girls for finishing perek vav in Navi! The girls prepared for and took a challenging test on this perek and are ready to begin the next perek! Another Mazal tov to the Seventh Grade Girls for finishing perek chaf dalet in Chumash! With Balak returning home, the girls are excited to see what awaits Bnei Yisrael next! A huge thank you Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Kahn for teaching our seventh graders Chumash and Navi for the past few weeks! We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Mann back next week! The Eighth Grade Girls have been learning about the different rooms and parts of a house and a lot of phrases that are house related in Ivrit. They are working hard on putting together complete sentences using these words as well as the different dikduk rules they've learned so far. The girls are diligently preparing for their second Ivrit sicha (conversation). This week, in honor of Rosh Chodesh Adar, the fifth through eighth grade girls had a chance to showcase their talents in a talent show! Thank you to our SPARC heads, I mean honorable judges, Sarah Motzen and Tzivia Elias, for arranging this event!
