BETH TORAH BENNY ROK CAMPUS; WHERE CHILDREN AND TEENS EXPERIENCE THE WONDERS OF MODERN JUDAISM More than a Synagogue... We are Family!
A CONTINUOUS JOURNEY in Judaism with after school programs for every age group from K - 12th grade Religious School J2M (Journey to Mitzvot) J2M Second Generation BT Teens for Israel Youth Programs (Kadima & USY)
OUR MISSION is to offer our children and teens the knowledge, resources, and connection to a caring and engaging community that will become the cornerstone of their future in the greater Jewish and world communities. Curriculum spanning Kindergarten through High School First-class, high quality and innovative Jewish education Over 70 years of track record and experience State of the Art technologies and methodologies for comprehensive learning CAJE licensed teachers Rabbinical and Cantorial involvement in daily teaching Family education programs throughout the year One class for each grade level Enhanced social experience Israel is our Jewish homeland and we instill the love for Israel in our students More than a synagogue we are a Family and a Community
SCHECK FAMILY RELIGIOUS SCHOOL Kindergarten 6th grade The Scheck Family Religious School offers our K through 6th graders the knowledge and experiences they need to take to become a responsible Jew. Our curriculum gives our students access into the worlds of Jewish text, prayer, history, culture, and values that will offer them entry into a lifetime of Jewish learning. Students in the Religious School meet twice weekly and discover Judaism by exploring different, but interconnected areas of study. Engaging students and families through hands-on activities, active learning and experiential programs is a fundamental tenet of our Religious School philosophy. Motivated by the beauty of all that Judaism has to offer and the active engagement of young minds and talent, children and families are launched into AN UNMATCHABLE JEWISH EXPERIENCE
The Religious School curriculum is based on seven interconnected pillars. HEBREW LANGUAGE: Identifying sight words and using modern technology to reinforce Hebrew reading and writing skills aimed toward prayers and liturgy, students learn to decode and learn Aleph Bet to enhance Bar/ Bat Mitzvah skills. JEWISH TRADITIONS: Students in grades K-7 are exposed to experiential learning about our holidays and traditions. JEWISH VALUES: The Scheck Family Religious School is highly committed to Tikkun Olam on an individual and collective basis. Each grade level is responsible for an exciting Tikkun Olam project during the year. TORAH STUDY: In the Religious School we expand our students Jewish textual learning by delving deeper into Torah study and including texts found throughout our tradition, inspiring our students to find their own voices in our eternal conversation. T filah assembly takes place on Saturday for grades K-6; services are led by clergy with children taking active leadership roles. In the classroom students learn the content and understanding of the prayers. Parents are encouraged to join us for T filah on Saturday morning and be part of the experience. ISRAEL: Students learn about the major cities and symbols of our homeland while developing an emotional and intellectual connection with the land of our ancestors. MUSIC: Music is an integral part of Judaism and in music class students learn the traditional songs for the Jewish holidays, blessings and prayers. DANCE: Classes serve to help students understand and explore the cultural diversity and the origins of the different ethnicities in Israel and amongst the Jewish People.
J2M (JOURNEY TO MITZVOT ) (grades 6-7*) B nai Mitzvah marks one of the most important milestones in the life of every Jewish child. Designed for pre Bar and Bat Mitzvah students who have booked a Bar or Bat Mitzvah date at Beth Torah, J2M offers our students and families the knowledge and experiences they need to take on the responsibilities of becoming active participants in the Jewish community. This program is found only at Beth Torah and is a chance for the entire family to participate together in learning about the process of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. There are parent only activities, child only activities, and of course there are activities the entire family participates in together. Since its inception, the J2M program has generated tremendous excitement and the families that have participated have all come away with meaningful experiences that have enhanced the Bar and Bat Mitzvah experience. Through engaging activities, social action projects, and leadership opportunities, teens are prepared to become the NEXT GENERATION OF JEWISH LEADERS * Open to girls in 6th grade who have booked a Bat Mitzvah date for that year.
J2M SECOND GENERATION (grade 8; Post Bar/bat Mitzvah) J2M Second Generation brings to life all of the experiences and knowledge of J2M. The program focuses on the implementation of a different mitzvah project each year that will have the students rolling up their sleeves as active participants during the process. BT TEENS FOR ISRAEL (grades 9-12) Our teenagers are a vital part of Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus! We offer the opportunity for our 9th to 12th grade students to discuss current hot topics and dilemmas faced by teens today and explore the decisions according to Judaism. Once a month the students meet with special guest speakers from AIPAC. The year concludes with a trip to the AIPAC Conference in Washington DC. YOUTH GROUPS Through the Kettler & Levy Family Youth Connection, Beth Torah offers multiple youth programs. Under the auspices of United Synagogue Youth, KADIMA, is for Middle School. Movie nights, Olympic competitions, and laser tag are only a few of the exciting activites that the youth in our Jewish community have the opportunity to participate in. Cultural activities and social action projects also play an important role in building skills for tomorrow s Jewish leaders. Our older division, USY, is for high school students who meet once a week on Wednesday nights. Many of our USYers are extremely active sub regionally and regionally and consider USY part of their family. Whether it is volunteering in the community or hanging out with friends in our teen friendly youth lounge, USY is more than a youth group, it is a second home. Our youth programs are available for Jewish students to learn life skills and make friends who will last forever.
