1 SWANSEA FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH Post Office Box 550 Swansea, SC NON PROFIT ORG US POSTAGE PAID LEXINGTON, SC PERMIT NO. 107 THE SIGNAL Return Service Requested The Signal is published monthly by the Swansea First Baptist Church of Swansea, SC. Volume 24 Issue 10 October 2013 Community Fall Festival Saturday, October 26th 6-8pm From Your Pastor s Heart It was a great trip to Kenya. It was also scary once we got back and learned of the terrorist attack on the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. We had driven by there only 24 house before. Pray for Kenya and the families that lost loved ones. I talked to Dr. Bramwel on Sunday and found out one of his relatives was killed and a colleague of his as well. We never understand why things happen, but I am thankful we were out of Nairobi before the attack began! We really had a great time. We saw over 1200 patients and helped with 11 surgeries. Some will be done in the near future. We were able to help Charlie and the orphans at The St. Karen s Orphanage. A new boys dormitory is going to be built and that is exciting as well. I also heard from Pine Plain Baptist Church and they have finally gotten a Certificate of Occupancy and will worship there this Sunday! God is good! Swansea First Baptist Church Fall Festival Wednesday, October 30th Costume Contests, Trick or Treat Volunteers are needed for both festivals

3 Student Ministry News We have gotten off to a great start this year. We are in the middle of our Discovering God s Way of Handling Money study. Melanie is leading this study for us, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate her doing this. We are learning that everything that we have is a gift from God. We are also learning what it means to be a good steward of the gifts that we have been given. Some parents have asked if they can come and sit in on some sessions, parents are always welcome to join us. I want to say a special thank you to Mr. Elton Cagle. We purchased a new ping pong table for the parsonage and it came in about 1,000 pieces. Mr. Elton generously put that table together for us. I know that our students will enjoy the new ping pong table. Mr. Elton, we greatly appreciate you and your willingness to help us out. I also have some details to give to you regarding our Chillipepper trip. This year Chillipepper will be January The cost for the trip this year will be $150 with a $50 deposit due to sign up. Registration will open for students on October 1 st. We have limited space available so get your deposit in early to reserve your spot. We will have some more fundraisers coming up to help with the cost of the trip. Upward Basketball and Cheerleading is right around the corner. Early Registration will close on October 20 th. Our evaluation days are Saturday, October 26 th and November 2 nd. The evaluations will take place at the Swansea Senior Center Gym. We still need coaches and referees as well as people to serve in several other areas to make Upward possible. We look forward to you being a part of this ministry this season. In Christ, John Harmon 2 Tim. 2:15 The youth at Swansea First Baptist Church will GIVE GOD THE GLORY with everything we do; and we will have FUN while GROWING TOGETHER, MEETING OTH- ERS NEEDS, and SPREADING THE WORD. What a fantastic sermon Terry preached today! This has really been a long last couple of weeks that have just passed, how long was Terry gone a year?j All fun aside, I am glad Terry is back safely and soundly. I feel we have the most supportive church when it comes to trying to help people. With a pastor with a heart like Terry s, we are truly blessed. I have been very fortunate to know so many folks in our church who help in so many ways. For that, I am thankful to God for His immeasurable provision. Also, I thank those of you who are willing to give of your resources, time, and talents. Without you, we simply could not move forward. I want to thank the choir for your dedication and relentless efforts week in and week out. Wednesday nights get to be long, but I am so thankful for your love and support as we minister together. If you want to be a part of this ministry and are willing to help please contact John Harmon. Your Library We have new books and movies in the Library which will suit most any Christian reader. Just a few of the newest choices are as follows: Snow Day by Billy Coffey Awakened by radio broadcasts urging the residents of a small Virginia town to take a snow day rather than travel to school or work, Peter Boyd finds himself with both an unexpected day off and an opportunity to find big truths in small moments and surprise encounters. This is a heartwarming story of the faithful way God speaks even when we won t listen. Happy, Happy, Happy by Phil Robertson Duck calls, though the source of his livelihood, are not what makes Phil Robertson the man he is today. When asked what matters in his life, he s quick to say, Faith, family, ducks in that order. In this inspiring book, you ll get to know the man behind the legend; and you ll come away better for it. Little Red Wagon This movie on DVD is the story of how one person with a big heart can effect big changes. Eight-year-old Zach Bonner sets out to help homeless people in the wake of a hurricane. He ends up walking across the country, overcoming bureaucrats and capturing the hearts of his fractured family and entire nation. Come by on Sunday mornings 9:15-9:45 am or Wednesday evenings 6:15-7pm and find a book or movie to warm your heart.
