4 November 2016 PAGE 4 Members Meeting A members meeting will be held on Monday November 28th at 7:30pm in the Community Events Room. Happy Birthday NewHope! NewHope turns 65 this year! From the early 1950 s to today our witness and care have touched the local community with great hope in the name of Jesus. And now age 65 we are privileged to see God taking us forward to even greater things. In November we will express our thanks to God through a thanksgiving offering and a time of prayer. In 2017 major build work will commence and one of the components of that project is a COMMUNITY KITCHEN which will extend our hospitality even further and add capacity for even more fruitful ministry. The offering goal to underwrite this work is $50,000. We gathered for a special Birthday and Building PRAYER meeting on the 2nd of November at 7:00pm in the Main Hall. This is the very start of new build program and the week of our 65th year. What a privilege to gather and give God our heartfelt thanks and praise. NewHope s Clothing Bin The Clothing Collection Bin previously at the side wall of the Preschool is now located at the back of Community Care. Keep up the great donations NewHope, this is one of the Bargain Browser East Ringwood, most generous bins.

And serve we do, great food, great coffee and a place where people can come and meet and enjoy all we offer here at NewHope. Our cafe is a hive of activity at the moment, Claire has been cooking and baking up a storm, Eva is making her great coffees and we are busier than ever and we need your help. If you have every considered coming and volunteering in the cafe now is the time, we are welcoming more and more of our community in and we need some extra hands to help us serve. Christmas puddings The cafe is once again making authentic calico cloth boiled Christmas Puddings. Two sizes are available. 1Kg serves up to 10, $30, or a 2Kg serves up to 20, $45. October is collection month for Samaritan s Purse shoe boxes but if you haven t brought your box back yet you can still do so. Noddy Sharma (OM) has been in Jordan. Phil And Carol Short Delay Return Carol s health issues have delay their return to Niger. Please pray for God s healing and timing. Change For Miranda Hocking-Smith Miranda has finished up as a NewHope Global partner in her service with YWAM Townsville, and is back home with us here. Please pray for Miranda as she settles back and follows God s next steps for her. Activate 2017 Activate is the premium annual one day global mission training event in Melbourne for all ages. The 2017 date Saturday 29th April at One Community Church Blackburn has just been released. Mark it in your calendars now! The focus will be The Forgotten People. 8 November 2016 PAGE 8 Croydon Campus update Our Croydon Campus Weekend Away at Safety Beach (Oct 14-16) was a fantastic success, with over 40 people attending - we had great times of visiting local cafes, kicking the footy & soccer balls, plenty of fun with the kids riding scooters, bikes and playing indoor games. The weather was warm but windy, but that didn t stop us walking to the beach and playgrounds. Everyone agreed that it was so good to have so many great conversations and to see deepening relationships. One of our Mainly Music families made it along for the entire weekend and said it was awesome Croydon Monday Men s Group (every 2nd Monday) - Rack Em up pool hall, John St in Lilydale. 9 November 2016 PAGE 9 Christmas is Giving At Christmas, NewHope provides Coles and Woolworths Food Gift Cards to people in need that are connected to NewHope through ministries and programs. This includes Blackburn North, Croydon and Surrey Hills, the Preschool and Community Care, our Persian and Brazillian Communities, CAP clients, Dinner Tonite, Jubilee Housing, Soccer Club, as well as families and individuals. Food hampers will continue to be supplied to several of our partners, including the Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Ministry, led by Cath Solomon, and to drop ins. Vouchers allow people the dignity and empowerment of choice during this season. As NewHope is such a multi-cultural community where foods vary significantly, we would like people to enjoy their foods at Christmas and give them the ability to choose the same, just like you and me. To give to Christmas is Giving purchase one of the following from Coles or Woolworths to the value of your choosing ($10, $20, $25 & $50 increments are ideal). Place it in an envelope marked Christmas is Giving and deposit it into the offering at any worship service no later than Sunday 11th December. The earlier we receive your gift, the easier it is for Community Care to distribute your gifts. The Coles Gift Card. This is the gift card that needs to be purchased from Coles itself as it is the only gift card that you cannot buy alcohol or cigarettes with. All Coles stores carry this card. If you cannot find it, ask at the customer service desk. You can nominate the amount you would like to put on the card. The Groceries or Essential Card from Woolworths. It comes in increments of $5, $10, $15, $20, $50 or there is a purple essential card that you can place your own dollar amount on. Purchase of cigarettes and alcohol is not permitted on this card, nor can it be used to buy other gift cards. Not all stores have the groceries only card on hand, but you can purchase it online: everydaygiftcards.com.au Non-perishable food donations will continue to be received and can be placed in the blue collection bins at NewHope Blackburn and Croydon, as we assist our partners and stock the food pantry to address need through the Summer months. Donations of gifts and kids toys will be received through Kids Church and the Community Care House, 522 Middleborough Rd , Monday Thursday.
