2 This term s teaching is driven by a Video Series produced by Karl Faase of Olive Tree Media and is focused on exploring the profound impact of Jesus of Nazareth on culture and everyday life in the Western world. If Jesus had not lived, we would literally not know ourselves. We will explore ten major spheres of life in which Jesus has changed the game for all of us. There is a 25 minute video that matches each theme and we will use some of these in our worship gatherings. There is also a ten session study guide for use in groups (available as a smartphone app or a soft copy book). We are encouraging all NewHope groups and many of our ministries to set aside 6 to 10 meetings to watch the videos and discuss them together. We will also host a six week BIG GROUP in the Community Events Room Tuesdays 20th February to 27th March pm with food, videos on the big screen, break out groups and some special content for those who are not presently in a group or would like to come along and see the videos again. It is also being run at our Surrey Hills Baptist Children s Centre (277 Elgar Rd) Wednesdays 21st February to 28th March pm. This would be a wonderful series to invite a friend to join you at worship or in your group, especially someone who is asking the important questions of life. This series will inspire as it opens our eyes to the amazing dynamic influence of Jesus Christ upon our history, culture and the everyday values we take for granted. 4 Build Update It is wonderful seeing the new Preschool facilities open and being enjoyed by all. An opportunity for everyone to have a look is planned for Sunday morning on the 4th of March. The Medical Centre work is completed. It is exciting to see the outside cladding appearing on the main building. The upstairs rooms are finished. Keep an eye on newhope.net.au/build for the latest photos. Pledges and gifts towards the project are much appreciated (see bulletin Giving page, giving envelope or website). Please be prayerful for safety on and around the site, and for our build coordinator Jordan Hill and site manager Warren Hill. 5 Building Closure NewHope News March 2018 During the Easter school holidays the main building will be closed to allow for renovations to the Cafe floor. Please note the following affected ministries: Middle Ground Cafe: The cafe will be closed from Monday 2nd April and reopen on Tuesday 17th. The cafe will also be closed on Sunday 1st (Easter Sunday), 8th and 15th April. Playspace will be closed Tuesday 3rd and 10th April and Friday 6th and 13th April. Reception: NewHope Reception will not be accessible during the floor renovations but phones will be manned during normal office hours. Any queries please phone Sunday Services: Our usual 9am & 11am and 5:30pm services will run as normal. Access will be via the cafe entrance or the Dale Court entrance. Persian Worship Service: Direct access to the Community Events Room via Springfield Road steps past the cafe entrance. Chinese Worship Service: This service will run as normal. Visit bhc.org.au Make Easter Traffik Free Australian campaigners such as Baptist World Aid and Stop the Traffik have probably been the most successful in convincing chocolate companies to stamp out slavery in their supply chains. Since 2008, these organisations have campaigned every major chocolate producer in the country. People like you have raised their voices and, as a result, Cadbury, Mars, Nestle, Ferrero, Lindt and Hershey have all agreed to work towards ensuring that their chocolate is traffik-free. Progress is being made. Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Haighs stock ethically certified Easter products that have been certified against the use of child labour. Keep looking out for the Fairtrade, UTZ Certified and Rain Forest Alliance logos.know where your chocolate comes from and help end child labour! PAGE 7

10 NewHope Medical is opening very soon and we would like to hear from Registered Nurses who are interested in working with us at Blackburn North. The part-time role would be for a minimum of 12 hours per week and duties would include phlebotomy, triaging of patients, performing ECG, assisting with health assessments and chronic disease management activities and Care Plans, administration of medication and monitoring of Schedule 8 drugs, administration of immunisations as directed, wound management and some reception duties. We are committed to providing comprehensive care to all individuals, promoting health, well-being and disease prevention, and we also offer in-house psychology and counselling services. 11 COACH community care inc. COACH is a community mentoring program that trains volunteer mentors to provide one-to-one support to families or individuals needing assistance with reaching their life goals. Mentors walk alongside a family for 12 months providing encouragement by addressing their physical, emotional, relational and spiritual goals. Through non-judgmental support and positive reinforcement, the program helps families plan for a brighter future. NewHope will be commencing the COACH mentoring program across our 3 campuses this year, and we invite you to become a part of this exciting new ministry. We are currently recruiting individuals or couples who are interested in helping transform the lives of families in the local community who are experiencing life challenges. COACH Mentor Training Our training is some of the very best mentor training available. It includes 14 hours of training on how to mentor, boundaries, values and risk plus a good understanding of how to support people doing it tough. You are supported throughout by Fiona Beveridge, our NewHope COACH Coordinator. A two day training course will held at our Surrey Hills Campus over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of March. 12 Campus Update: NewHope Croydon Our Croydon Campus meets every Sunday from 10am for Coffee and morning tea, followed by a worship service. We have live preaching roughly once a month from our campus pastor Phil Gaudion and other members of the NewHope Preaching Team. We often watch the current teaching from our Senior Pastor and Pastoral Team on video, same day to remain connected to our Blackburn Campus. The service includes live music and worship, times of giving, fellowship and prayer. Croydon has a kids church program for 1 year olds to Grade 6 and a dedicated NewHope Kids space with Trained Leaders who all have done Duty of Care Training and have working with children and police checks. We meet at the EMPART organisation building at 14 Railway Cres Croydon, and this Easter marks our 4 year anniversary! Croydon has many weekday programs to connect with the wider community during the week, we have small groups meeting in homes which are open to new people: Women s Craft Group called Our Space at 14 Railway Cres Croydon (Search for Our Space women and craft on Facebook) PlaySpace for toddlers and parents every Wednesdays at 14 Railway Cres Croydon (search for Playspace Croydon on Facebook) Thursdays (returning to Tuesdays as of March) we have a Mainly Music program for toddlers and parents (bookings required).
