Matt 6:9 (2 Sept) It is a privilege and a blessing to call God Father as Jesus did (Mk 14:36). Our status as sons and daughters is an incredible gift (Rom 8:15, Gal 4:6). This is the language of personal connection and family privilege. We can grow in this blessing by following the example of Jesus and welcoming the work of the Spirit in our lives. God is not a distant concept, God is a compassionate and involved father. Does God Cry? Luke 19:41-44 (9 Sept) God is no baby, He never whines to get attention or have his needs met. Nor is he just a cosmic brain with a heart of stone. God is a loving parent (Hosea 11) and the Bible describes him with vivid emotional language. Jesus, God s son, cries openly. God cries and every tear has purpose. How Can Jesus Fit in my Heart? Eph 3:17, 1 John 1:3 (16 Sept) The language of Christian faith is the language of intimate and active connection with God (Rev 3:20). Love defines our life in God (Deut 6:4-5). God is always near to us (Ps 145:18, Acts 17:27) and longs to make his home within us (Jn 14:20, 23). Jesus gives us a beautiful and transformative vision of togetherness. Guest Speaker - Noddy Sharma (23 Sept) Noddy Sharma is the National Director of OM Australia. He is a wonderful speaker who brings a powerful message each time he preaches at NewHope. Where Did the Bible Come From? John 20:29-31 (30 Sept) The Bible is a work of God s Spirit leading God s people to tell God s story (2 Pet 1:16-21). It is a very diverse collection of literature with a strong and consistent message of hope for all people everywhere. It came from the quills of many different people in many different places over many long years. And it still comes to readers today straight from the heart of God. 3 It s on again! The Global Leadership Summit (GLS) is an exceptional two day videocast with unparalleled content from top flight Church and business leaders. In Australia more than 5,000 leaders will gather across 25+ sites to inspire one another in vibrant leadership learning communities. Last year was the most successful year yet and that is why we have agreed to host the GLS at NewHope, 8-9 October 2018 and encourage you and your teams to be involved. NewHope has made the GLS part of our professional development strategy taking people each year for the past decade. It has also been an opportunity to build into our business and community leaders and to support smaller congregations and ministries in our network as we invite people to join our learning community for two days. GLS 2018 once again features a world class faculty from diverse backgrounds including the Church, business, not-for-profit and education. Faculty members will deliver a unique blend of vision, inspiration and practical skills to apply in your context. Danny s 10th Anniversary We celebrate Danny Hunt s 10th Anniversary serving at associate pastor at NewHope. As we are finalising the build, we are looking to the community to help fill the cupboards of the new Community Kitchen with knives & forks, cups, utensils - everything a kitchen needs to function. Donations can be made online through purchasing items listed under the Stock the Community Kitchen icon on the NewHope Baptist website. NewHope will use the money to buy and place those items in the kitchen for everyone to enjoy. NewHope Refresh:Reflect:Renew Seeds. Saturday September 22nd, 9.30am to 3.00pm Seeds hold amazing potential for growth and transformation. Come and join us as we create a quiet space in our busy lives to go deeper with God and explore the spiritual insights and invitations this theme offers to us! The retreat program includes gathered time together for introduction, sharing and communion; as well as free time for personal prayer and quiet reflection. Books & art materials will be available. 4 Global Special Sunday Film Screening. At Least Once is a new 65 minute Australian produced feature movie. Operation Mobilisation (OM) national director Noddy Sharma, videographer Ian Anderson and comedian Ben Price travelled the world in 14 days, documenting their experiences. They visited inspirational people who are sharing Jesus with the least reached. The result is this incredibly inspiring film, which encourages us to re-evaluate our understanding of mission. 6 Bible studies and accompanying videos are available for groups to explore the themes and stories. We are screening it at NewHope Blackburn on Sunday 30th September twice in Function room 2 upstairs during both the 9am and 11am services. We hope people will stay on after the 9am service for the 11am showing, or view it at 9am before attending the 11am service. 5 Human Flow Moving Screening. Tuesday 11th September at our Blackburn Campus. community care inc. Over 65 million people around the world have been forced from their homes to escape famine, climate change and war in the greatest human displacement since World War II. Human Flow, led by internationally renowned artist Ai Weiwei gives a powerful visual expression to this massive human migration. Captured over the course of a year and filmed in 23 countries, the documentary elucidates both the staggering scale of the refugee crisis and its profoundly personal human impact. How can we respond? Thursday 20th September at 7:30pm. Unshackled will be partnering with Stop the Traffik, also involving organisations such as Baptist World Aid, to host a Lobby Lab at NewHope at 7.30pm on 20th September Please diarise this date if you want to learn how to engage politicians on matters important to you. The information will be helpful to us as a church supporting Christian values in today s society. This area of advocacy will cover mainly modern-day slavery and with some input on asylum seekers. COACH is a community mentoring program that trains volunteer mentors to provide one-to-one support to families or individuals needing assistance with reaching their life goals. NewHope Medical is the proud recipient of a Deakin Community Award presented by Michael Sukkar MP, in recognition of the creation, research, planning and implementation of this enterprise. This award is shared across the many people who gave their time and input over the years, to make the vision a reality. Our patient numbers are steadily growing and we are really in need of more GPs to join our team. We appreciate that so many of the NewHope family have been sharing news of the medical centre with their friends and neighbours. Please keep speaking to General Practitioners in your circles to let them know that we have a great opportunity for them here. There has been an outbreak of Hepatitis A in Victoria. If you are in one of the at risk groups, the vaccine is supplied free by the government until December Please feel free to discuss this with us. The My Health Record continues to stir up alot of debate. The opt out period has been extended to November 15th, We have plenty of material to explain what it is and to use in deciding how to manage your information. Our doors are open Monday to Friday, 9-5. The parking is easy and the welcome is warm! There will be one more opportunity to attend COACH mentor training this year. 7 Croydon Campus Update. Tech Team Volunteers. Stacey Miller was baptised on Sunday July 29 after sharing her powerful testimony in our service - we thank God for the journey Stacey has been on and are grateful for continuing service at mainly Music, Playspace & Sundays. Stacey is sharing her story with many people that attend our weekday events. Our Family Film Night of Sunday August 19th was a great success with many families whom we have relationship with (and new some new families) choosing to attend. PlaySpace. Wednesdays and Thursdays at Croydon from 9.30am til 1pm. PlaySpace Croydon offers free play along with barista coffee, babychinos and Tam s yummy cookies. We are almost at capacity each wednesday! - thanks to our team Tam Gaudion, Chris Somers, Ray Suryn, Liz Lanini and Stacey Miller. One visitor to PlaySpace recently wrote on Facebook: The hug and kind words of support before I left were greatly appreciated and gave me the support I needed. We will be back soon... The grade 6 boys will be having a games night on Friday the 14th of September, 7pm at the church, hosted by NewHope parents Brad and Rachel Sinclair.
