4 Connecting With God Each Day For the week beginning October 28, 2018 Send some time each day with the Lord, asking him to use this time to meet you where you are and to seak to your greatest need. Monday: Yesterday, we asked a question that most eole will ask at some oint in their lives; what does it mean to live a good life? Solomon gave some ractical worldly advice that also has some siritual alication. Throughout the course of this week, we are going to look at both the hysical and siritual asects of a life well-lived. Read Ecclesiastes 11:1-2. Yesterday we saw that these verses likely refer to sea trade and diversifying one s financial ortfolio. Solomon s oint is that a well-lived life is a life of wise risk-taking. There is truth to this. If one never takes any risks, then very little is accomlished. Think of the risk taken by the first erson to sail out into the sea beyond the view of land. Think of the risk of the erson to leave the ground and travel in the air. What about the risks of those ioneers who ushed westward into the unknown. What risks have you taken in your life? Don t act foolishly, but don t be afraid to take a risk to accomlish something. Taking a risk can be an act of faith. Tuesday: There is a siritual element to risk-taking. Read Acts 8: We are told in verse 27 that the eunuch that Phili aroached was a very imortant official. Have you ever walked u to a random imortant erson and started a conversation about siritual things? What about a random anonymous erson? What was the result for Phili? How many similar results might we miss out uon if we do not take risks for the Lord and share our faith? I challenge you today to start a random conversation about siritual things. Take a risk and see what God does with it. Wednesday: Read Ecclesiastes 11:3-6. Another asect of a well-lived life is hard work. There seems to be an aversion to hard work today. Much like the farmer of verse 4, eole look for any excuse to get out of work. This is not a godly attitude. Read II Thessalonians 3:6-10. What rule does Paul give the Thessalonians in verse 10? There are obvious excetions. In I Timothy, Paul gives instructions for taking care of widows who cannot work. However, if we can work, we should work, because it is godly to work hard. Not only that, but hard work generally comes with rewards. Do you work, or have your worked, hard? That is a art of a well-lived life. 5 Thursday: Just like taking risks had a siritual alication, so also does hard work. Read Matthew 9:35-38, focusing on Jesus words in the last few verses. What does Jesus comare the crowds of lost eole to? I have never farmed, but what I have seen in assing leads me to believe that harvesting is hard work. Notice in Jesus words that twice he mentions the need for workers twice. Workers. Reaching this world for Jesus is hard work. Would you describe your efforts in reaching this world as hard work? It would seem that many Christians view their role in exanding the kingdom of God in a very assive way. Folks, we are called to be laborers, to work hard for God, to see a harvest in this world. And let me say this; a harvest for the kingdom of God is definitely evidence of a life well-lived. Friday: The final asect of having a well-lived life involved enjoying life at every stage. Read Ecclesiastes 11:7-10. Make a list of the advice that Solomon gives on how to enjoy life? Are you enjoying your life? What are the things that are keeing you from enjoying life? Do you suffer from anxiety? Is your body troubled? I want to encourage you today that if there is anything that is keeing you from enjoying this stage of your life, and if it is something you can get rid of, get rid of it. God did not create us to be miserable. Enjoying the life that God has given you is a great way to show him thankfulness, and when you come to the end of your life, you will see that it was well-lived. Saturday: Enjoying life does come with a warning. Read Ecclesiastes 11:9. Even in the context of telling us to follow our hearts, we are reminded that there is judgment for sin. We should not follow our hearts when they lead away from God, because then we will not enjoy the life we have. David is a good examle of this. When his heart was guided by God, he was able to enjoy life, even as he was running for his life. As king, he chose to follow his heart into an adulterous relationshi that resulted in murder. If you read his story from that oint, his life never recovered. He was caught in turmoil from that oint on, and I am sure that it was hard to enjoy life at that oint. Enjoy life, but not to the oint of sin, or you will not enjoy life anymore. Tomorrow: Join us tomorrow as we celebrate the Lord s Suer during a family service.
