Samuelson Disciples of Jesus Lutheran Christians will often understand their position as children of God in terms of how they are saved by grace through faith and by no works of their own. Further, this position, while accurate, can lead to inactivity. Our position can cause us to forget about our mission. Good works don t save us but they are expected by our Lord Jesus. We are called to bring the kingdom of heaven to earth, to work for the good of others that they may know the glory of the Lord. The Son of God came to earth as a man. The incarnation was the Word of God in the flesh. The miracles Jesus performed, His teachings, His sermons were all done in the flesh. If Jesus did these things just as God then we would all be relegated to the observation deck to cheer and praise Him, since He did such things in the flesh we are called to follow where he had led. Sometimes we may feel confident about this and other times we may not, but we don t get to change the assignment. Our position doesn t change our mission. We are to be Jesus hands, feet, and voices in the world that the good news might be made known throughout the land. Pastor Gary

We have stuffed our cut-open pumpkin with dirt and are waiting to see what happens with the seeds that were left inside. We talked about making a hypothesis and some guesses are a beanstalk will grow, square pumpkins will grow, nothing will happen to the dirt and even maybe a dragon will emerge. We can t wait to see! November finds us getting ready for Thanksgiving and still enjoying harvest activites. This month we will learn about the Pilgrims and the Native American Indians and How they helped one another. We will explore their cultures and discuss similarities and differences. As we learn about Thanksgiving, we will also learn about different foods and the various ways corn is used. Hand in hand with our Thanksgiving themes, we will be conduction our annual food drive to benefit the Matawan Food Pantry. There are many needy families who benefit from the generosity of others. If you want your family to participate, please send in non-perishable food items through Wednesday, November 16th. We will have a special basket in the classroom for the collection. It s a wonderful opportunity to teach about helping others! Please remember to check the expiration dates on cans and boxes. Thank you! Peace, Janet Kain

Change is happening all around. Old models of ministry are being set aside, and some are experimenting with new ways of engaging in Christ s mission in their context. Well, ELCA certified coaches can help pastors, lay leaders and congregations navigate, grow and even thrive in times of change and transition.
