Gary E. Costa garyc798@gmail.com Church & Nursery School Secretary Cahren Morris cogoffice@juno.com Musician & Choir Director Andrea Riemen Youth Advisors Jim & Cathy Easley Sunday Services: 8:15AM & 10:30AM Summer Service: (July August) 9:30AM Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday Cross of Glory Nursery School Fax: Director Janet Kain Webmaster Jeremy V. Samuelson The Hour Has Come This is a popular saying. Sometimes we may hear it as The time has come. In either case it signifies that a critical or meaningful time for an event or project has arrived. Jesus speaks about His hour having come in the gospel of John (12:23 & 13:1). For Him it represents a shift in His earthly life. The shift is from Jesus ministry to His mission (Gale O Day). Up until this point the focus has been on teaching, preaching, and healing. Now the focus is on being lifted up (12:32). Jesus will be lifted up on the cross, lifted up in the resurrection, and lifted up in the ascension. When He is lifted up He will draw all people to Himself (12:32). This means that more people will come to know the good news of God through Jesus mission than through his ministry. This is a great way to sum up what Holy Week is about. Very simply, that however great and wonderful we consider Jesus ministry to have been, it was trumped by His mission; that is, His having been lifted up in threefold form on the cross, in the resurrection, and in the ascension. The children have been busy in school getting ready for this special holiday. The afternoon class has made story props which enable them to tell others the story of Jesus death and resurrection. We ve also decorated our classroom with bunnies and eggs. The annual Easter egg hunt will be held for each class on their last day before the Easter holiday. Best wishes for a very happy Easter! Spring has finally arrived, although we are still waiting for more springlike weather. Maybe it will be warmer following our vacation! April finds us enjoying spring activities like planting and bird watching and learning about taking care of God s world. We will celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd and talk about recycling and other ways to keep our planet healthy. Our classroom will also be invaded by dinosaurs, a favorite theme. The children will learn about carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores, even creating their own dinosaur. We will even see if all of our footprints can fit on one footprint of an Iguanodon. During chapel time this month, Pastor will be talking about Creation! Janet Kain Developmentally Appropriate Christian-based Care

4 Jersey Jottings Evangelical Lutheran Church in America God s Work. Our Hands. News from around the NJ Synod NJ Synod 1930 State Highway 33 Hamilton Square, NJ Fax: info@njsynod.org Mon. Fri. 9am 5pm Rev. Tracie L. Bartholomew Bishop Lutheran Office of Governmental Ministry: Bread for the World Prayer is foundational to achieving Bread for the World s goal of helping to end hunger and extreme poverty by Will you join us in asking God to move our government s officials to enact laws and policies aligned with God s Kingdom values and to make ending hunger and poverty a major priority by 2017? Wen you commit to joining in prayer for the end of hunger, Bread for the World will you twice a month with specific prayer requests and sample prayers. Some Christians use the season of Lent to live more simply, fast, and pray more fervently in order to grow closer to God. Many give something up or take something on as a new discipline. Adding prayers for the end of hunger is a good foundation for these faith practices. For more information on Bread for the World, visit Need at Fook Banks and Pantries Food banks and pantries are struggling with an incredible amount of need, and state funds used to support them are almost drained. For example, the PERC food pantry has been without milk for the last few weeks. Please contact your local food pantry or food bank and find how out how you and your community of faith can help to support these ministries. If you have any questions or would like help to contact a feeding program in need, please contact Rev. Sara Lilja at Logm@njsynod.org. Synod Assembly The 28th Annual Assembly of the New Jersey Synod will be held June 4-6 at Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch, NJ. We gather under the them Build Us Up, Lord : a time to call God s place in our lives and communities and an opportunity to seek out ways to hear God s call and will. This year s Assembly will provide an incredible opportunity to gather, worship, hear great speakers, learn in workshops and presentations, and connect with the rest of the New Jersey Synod! New Book from NJ Synod Pastor Rev. Jack DiMatteo (Chaplian, Compassionate Care Hospice, Parsippany) has published a new book. Faith and Farewell: When Your Parents Approach Their Final Days. It can be found in many bookstores. Taize Brothers Coming to NJ Taize Brothers from the Ecumenical Community in Taize, France will visit the United Methodist Church in Chatham, NJ and lead a Taize Prayer Service on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
