2 Our Pastor... First, thank you so much for the many birthday wishes and cards! It is always encouraging when a pastor s people remember. You are kind. I d also like to thank those who were brave enough to bring me to their place of work! Many more are scheduling me for the coming months. Take Your Pastor to Work Month was fantastic. So, I look forward to continuing this fun way of getting to know you better. If August didn t fit into your schedule, please know that the invitation still stands. Now I d like to share some exciting news about our Sunday night Bible study. This year we are making a positive change that will hopefully encourage better attendance and allow me to more effectively minister to some very different groups. The plan is to move the time of the Bible study from 5:45 right after the meal to 4:00 pm. This accomplishes a number of good things. Some have expressed that they do not drive after dark, or at least feel uncomfortable doing so. I am sensitive to that reality. Holding the study before the meal gives those individuals the option of going home much earlier. This will then free me up to visit with our youth and our children during their ministry times, allowing me to build better connections with those groups. I am also invited to participate in Elon University s Friends of Internationals team. This ministry of hospitality only meets with international students once a month, but always from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Sundays. I look forward to the freedom to build relationships with these three vital groups: children, teens, and international students! Of course, if you do not like the change of time and it will not work with your schedule, don t forget I also teach every Thursday morning from 11:30 to 12:00 am. Hopefully one of those options will fit with your needs. Thanks for the support of this new thing God is leading us to do here at FBC! in concert BROOKE CAMPBELL Sunday, September 6 at 6 PM In the Sanctuary About Brooke A thoughtful and soulful singer/song writer, Brooke Campbell offers a blend of acoustic/folk, pop, and bluegrass to tell the stories of her spiritual journey. Her music reaches audiences both in the church and at the local coffee house or pub. She masterfully shares her story through music that cannot be labeled as either secular or sacred. It is just the music of her life, and God is everywhere in it even when not specifically named. Come prepared to slow things down, unwind, and drift away into a music that invites us to think deeper and ask tougher questions. We hope you will invite your friends, especially those friends not typically comfortable in church. Page 2

3 Children s Team Sunday Evening Activities As we get back into the school routine it is always such an exciting time for parents, children, teachers and school administrators. My prayer is that you will make time in your family schedule for the exciting programs we are planning for the coming months. FBC Elon is blessed to have incredible leaders and great plans for the children. Looking after the spiritual needs of our children and increasing their knowledge of scripture, God s love and the saving grace of Jesus is a critical mission for any church. This means catering not only to their needs, but also making programs accessible and useful for parents. Please contact me at music@fbc-elon.org if you want to volunteer or have questions about the programs. ~ Laura Starting on September 13 the schedule will be: 5-5:30pm Fellowship Meal - We will gather together in the fellowship hall at 5:28pm after our Fellowship Meal and then walk to our music classes. 5:30-6:15pm Children s Music & Preschool Music - This year we will be singing and also adding hand chimes. 6:15-7pm Mission Friends, GA s & RA s This year our GA s will join the RA s class. Come, join us & invite a friend for our Sunday evening children s activities. ********** Students & Teachers, at our Blessing of the Backpacks Service. Praying for you!!
