Chris Nov. 1 is All Saints Day. Though it falls on a Thursday this year, we will be celebrating All Saints this Sunday. This is a day when we consider the hope of the promise of redemption --- to become as God is. This is what the lives of the saints witness to: the embodiment of 'likeness to God,' and the anticipation of the Day of Redemption that is yet to come. We live by its light. We will become 'like him' when we 'see him as he is' (1 John 3:2). But since we now 'see through a glass darkly' (1 Co. 13:12), and not yet 'face to face', we still await the day when we will 'awake with God's likeness' (Psalm 17:15). Abiding in this anticipation and hope lies at the heart of what it means to live as a saint in this life, and I can think of few who better fit that

2 description than our friend Job. This Sunday we will be considering the final chapter from his strange but glorious book. I look forward to seeing each of you! Peace. 4 Jennifer Nackerud, Nov. 30 SONG OF THE MONTH "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" From Fr. Chris: "I LOVE debates! I mean good debates; the ones with rules and respect for one another and the topic under consideration. Alternatively, I HATE arguments! Primarily because no one ever gets heard. In an argument we tend to talk over the top of one another, grabbing onto one word or phrase that 'triggered' us and then off we go! The song we have chosen as our 'song of the month' reminds us that talking over one another is not any more helpful in one's relationship to God than it is with one another. God has spoken --- therefore, "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent"! We are approaching the season of Advent in which we remember and anticipate the Word of God coming to Earth. I pray that as we sing this song throughout the month of November, we are reminded that a Word has been spoken that invites our silence --- not more words! Let us bravely enter that silence and allow full space for the Word to speak to us. Amen." Announcements Fall Back --- Daylight Savings This Saturday --- Remember to set your clocks BACK one hour on Saturday night before you go to bed and enjoy one extra hour of sleep! Potluck This Sunday, Nov Don't forget to bring yourself and a dish to share during our monthly potluck after our 10 a.m. service next week. Last Week of Spiritual Journey Book Studies --- This week marks our last discussing David Benner's Spiritual Journey trilogy. Five-Week Enneagram Class Continues NOT THIS SATURDAY But Next Saturday, Nov Don't miss our professionally facilitated Enneagram personality and character-type class from 10-11:30 a.m. on select Saturdays (Nov. 10, Nov. 17, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8). Because this process can be so useful to each of us in learning to better understand ourselves and fellow members of our community, HTAC will be paying

5 the full cost of this course for all participants! (Donations will be accepted to help defray our costs.) Operation Christmas Child --- HTAC's collection dates for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be Sunday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 18. Information on how to pack a shoebox can be found HERE. There will be boxes at church to pick up and fill starting on Oct 28, but we can also fill regular shoeboxes as well. Tuesday Night Women's Group --- We're planning to start up a new women's group on Tuesday nights at the ministry center. The first meeting will be from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, they'll skip a week for Thanksgiving and then meet again at the same time on Nov. 27. Car Needed to Keep Job --- A friend of HTAC who is currently without transportation has a huge need for a functioning car to get to work. If you have an extra car they can borrow, a car to donate or know someone who could donate a car, please let Fr. Chris know. Book Recommendation --- Assistant Professor of the History of Christianity in North America at Duke Divinity School, Kate Bowler, has written a book on suffering that I wanted to recommend to each of you given my recent sermon series in Job. Bowler has written an informed, sensitive, hard-hitting, yet funny book about her own cancer diagnosis and called it Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I Have Loved.
