2 Pastor s Corner The summer of 2017 was the busiest I have witnessed in the four years I have served here at Lycoming Presbyterian Church. On July 20, we were treated to a delightful free concert given by Hunter Family Ministries, which included Steve, his wife Alma, and their daughter Angelina. Just prior to the concert, the students of Steve Hunter s Warriors for Christ martial arts program presented an exciting demonstration of the skills they have been learning under Steve s leadership. Students comprised many different ages, and they seemed very happy about sharing the various moves they have mastered. On July 22, a Craft and Vendor Sale was held, involving many people who sold items crafted by them, and others who sold a variety of goods. The women of the church provided delicious food for sale, which helped make the event that much more special. Steve Hunter organized this event, and donated the table rental fees to our church. Thank you, Steve, for the ways you have been helping LPC. As scheduled, our church s 225 th Anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, August 13, in the area of the Tiadaghton Elm in Jersey Shore, along with Great Island and Jersey Shore Presbyterian Churches. It was great to share in a special outdoor worship service and luncheon, with folks who all claim the year of 1792 as their organizing year. Our 225 th Anniversary planning committee is now working on the final details of our Homecoming Sunday, scheduled for October 8, which will include a special worship service followed with a fellowship luncheon. I hope that many past members, pastors, and friends of LPC will be able to attend. On Sunday, September 3, we will be moving back to our regular hours, with Sunday School scheduled at 9:30 AM, and Sunday Worship at 10:45 AM. Please make a point of attending our services, as it is always good to see several people in our pews. You can find my preaching schedule on our website, as well as any Bible Studies I am planning. Also, please pray for the thousands of people in the Houston area who have experienced more rain and flooding than from any other recorded hurricane in our nation s history. The rescues by emergency workers, neighbors, and volunteers have been heartening to see, and the tremendous loss of everything by so many is a momentous tragedy. Peace in Christ, Pastor Larry

4 September& October Deacons Duties Transportation Judy Yagel will be the driver for the month of September and October or The Deacons play BINGO with the residents of the Presbyterian Home the last Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM. The Deacons are collecting food every Sunday for the Food Pantry at the West End Christian Community Center. Please try to bring in one box or can of food to keep our basket filled for the Center. Please help us give to those who are less fortunate than we are with the gift of food. THANK YOU. 225th Anniversary Service August 13, 2017 Jersey Shore, PA It is Sunday evening and about three weeks ago Lycoming celebrated with Jersey Shore and Great Island our 225 th anniversaries. We met on the site of the Tiadaghton Elm along the creek in Jersey Shore. The Rev. Larry LeFeber, Elders Betty Tompkins and Jean Bell were on the planning committee. Rev s Taylor Camerer, Great Island, Charlie Winkleman, Jersey Shore and Larry LeFeber took park in the service. The church service was modeled after a bulletin from 1788 with a few changes. George Balderose from Pittsburgh piped us in for the procession and played for the old time hymns. Communion was served and after worship a potluck luncheon was served. The Presbytery presented each church a certificate of recognition for our 225 th anniversaries ( ). Everyone was encouraged to reach out to our brothers and sisters from the other churches. Approximately 17 people from our congregation attended. Rich, Lorraine Boyle and Cheryl Appleton were also in attendance. As we look forward to our own 225 th celebration on October 8 th, if you have any suggestions they would be welcome. Betty and I are talking about a possible social event on Saturday evening and there will be a tureen luncheon after church.

10 MACKIN UPDATE AUGUST 8, 2017 Dear Teammate, A conference held at Colorado State University was a time of inspiration, feeding from the Word, and visiting with old friends from our years in the Philippines and elsewhere. It was fun living in the dorm and eating dorm food again (It s much better than when we were students!) On August 21 a new semester at Penn State begins! Our goal at the beginning of each year is to gather students, help them get connected with the students in our fellowship, and ultimately, to help them get connected to Jesus. The first month of classes is so important because this is when new students decide which path they will take (sometimes partying & binge drinking) and whom their friends will be. Getting involved with a Christian fellowship and coming to know Jesus can change the whole course of their lives. The first month of school is a blur of activity-we start with flyer blitzing August 19, a Welcome Dinner on August 20, a mixer August 23, our first large group meeting August 25, and a Small Group Leader s Brunch August 26! We ve enclosed a prayer request card for the first semester. Please join us in praying as we welcome new students and continue to call students to follow Jesus.
