2 Welcome to worship! Here in Florida spring cleaning includes preparing for hurricane season. We know life has unplanned and unwanted storms. Allow God to prepare you this morning to weather those storms. Make new friends and deepen your relationship with God, so the anchor will hold in spite of the storms. Once again, welcome! Acts 2:40-47 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, Save yourselves from this corrupt generation. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common... NOTES: Practice The Pause When in doubt, pause. When angry, pause. When stressed, pause. And, when you pause Pray! The Task Force is a community service organization developed by former law enforcement officers. Their mission is to achieve more awareness by the public of the criminal threat facing everyone in today s society and show effective measure to counter that thread. You never have to be afraid of being home alone or going to the grocery store. 3
4 Don s Desk by Don Tomko, Program Director Welcome the new pastor and family! God gave us The Ten Commandments. If He wanted them to be optional they d be called The Ten Suggestions! When it comes to new pastor appointments, I simply say, God s Got This! So as we welcome Pastor Jeffrey and family, here are 10 Suggestions I found for welcoming a new pastor with a little adlibbing from me! 1. Pray for him and his family daily. I heard a saying, If you are not happy with your pastor then pray for the one that you have! All pastors need prayer. 2. Love and honor the pastor s family. Help them get acclimated but also let them have adequate family time at home. 3. Tell the pastor and family your name again and again! And again. And again, if necessary! Learning names is hard. Give them ample time to learn yours. FYI I don t know everyone s name and I have been here 2.5 years! 4. Don t gossip about the pastor or family. Be a positive voice for the future. Stop gossip and rumors as soon as you hear them. 5. Speak encouragement. Say, I m here to help and mean it. Instead of creating more work for the new pastor mention how you would like to start a ministry and how you can take a lead role. 6. Introduce the pastor to the leaders in the church. It s helpful if the pastor knows the influencers in the church the sooner the better. 7. Let the pastor set the pace. They may not place priority where you think it should be placed or introduce change at the right pace but let them set the pace especially in the early days. 8. Don t offer a million suggestions. Let them learn who you are as a church before filling their head with too many ideas. 9. Don t prejudge. Don t assume, based on their history or your expectations, that they will perform a certain way. They may. They may not. Give them a chance! 10. Extend the honeymoon. A new pastor needs time to acclimate. They need time to learn you and the church. Keep loving and supporting them, even when changes become harder to make and harder to accept. If God brought the pastor to your church, God wants to use them there. Let God do as God intended. And above all, my suggestion is to 1) smile, 2) take a deep breath, 3) relax, and 4) enjoy the pastor that God has sent to us. Why? Because God s Got This! Those of us who visit families with infants are so grateful for the church s provision of baby formula. Thank you so much for thinking of us and the families we serve. Sincerely, Mary Wallace Sundvik Healthy Families, Pasco-Hernando 4
