1 Christ Congregational Church United Church of Christ Creating Beloved Community 9:55 a.m. July 15, 2018 Welcome to worship! As you settle in for worship, please feel free to light a candle of prayer in the chapel area (right side of sanctuary). The children will be with us through the prayer for the children then will be excused to their classes. There is nursery care available throughout the service, and a crying room at the back of the sanctuary for those who become inconsolable. RINGING OF THE CHIMES GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS Sylvia Berry, Organist Adam Mitchell, Moderator *OPENING HYMN Morning Has Broken No. 53 *CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 24) Leader: The earth is the Lord s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the water. ALL: Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in the holy place? Leader: Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. ALL: Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in Leader: Who is this, this King of glory? ALL: The Lord Almighty, he is the King of glory. Amen. *Asterisk indicates all who are able may stand Bold print indicates congregational response
2 *HYMN We Sing Your Mighty Power, O God No. 64 GATHERING PRAYER A WORD WITH THE CHILDREN: Praise A PRAYER FOR THE CHILDREN SINGING THE CHILDREN OUT I ve Got Peace Like a River No. 530 I ve got peace like a river, I ve got peace like a river, I ve got peace like a river in my soul (repeat). (the children may go to their program) PRAYER OF RECONCILIATION (in unison) Lord God, you teach us right from wrong. But we ignore you. We are quick to take revenge on those who hurt us. We pay more attention to what our friends think of us than to what we know is right. Even when we know that others are hurt by what we do, we make no changes. Loving God, forgive us, for we pray in Jesus name. Amen. KYRIE Day by Day No. 599 Day by Day, day by day, O, dear Lord, three things I pray: to see thee more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow thee more nearly, day by day. Day by day, by day, by day, by day. *WORDS OF ASSURANCE (please stand as you are able) *RECEIVING AND SHARING GOD S LOVE (by handshake, embrace, or with hands folded) The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.
3 *GLORIA Holy, Holy, Holy verse 1 No. 4 Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee; holy, holy, holy! There is a time, there is a time. A time to weep, a time to laugh, a time to mourn, a time to dance, to scatter stones, to gather stones, a time to embrace, and to refrain, a time to search, a time to lose, a time to hold, a time to release. There is a time, there is a time. A time for silence, a time to speak, a time to love, a time to hate, a time for war, a time for peace. There is a time, there is a time. THE GOSPEL Mark 6:14-29 SERMON Ann-Marie Illsley HYMN Fill The World With Love No. 467 MORNING PRAYERS THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
