Richard Schmidt Response In Christ Alone Benediction and Blessing Postlude Rev. Richard Schmidt Pat Deighton Pianist: Marlene Cracraft Next time you are out to eat, invite your waiter or waitress to church! Nursery (off of lobby) Our Mission: To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our Vision: A world of justice and mercy walking humbly with God.
2 Welcome to worship! Here in Florida spring cleaning includes preparing for hurricane season. We know life has unplanned and unwanted storms. Allow God to prepare you this morning to weather those storms. Make new friends and deepen your relationship with God, so the anchor will hold in spite of the storms. Once again, welcome! Let s welcome the Ice Family! Moving is a stressful and busy time and we want to help ease that stress for our new pastoral family. The Church is collecting gift cards for the Ices to local restaurants and stores (i.e. Olive Garden, Home Depot). We also thought it would be helpful to provide menus or flyers for takeout restaurants or local businesses that you use. You may drop donated gift cards in the offering plate or bring them to the office during regular office hours. We would ask that you bring menus and flyers to the office. We are looking forward to the Ices joining our church family and want to give them a warm welcome! 1 Corinthians 1:20-25 (NIV) Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. NOTES: Practice The Pause When in doubt, pause. When angry, pause. When stressed, pause. And, when you pause Pray! If it were not for this ministry, I would not have enough food to last from one paycheck to the next. Thank you, thank you. God bless. God s Food Pantry serves and touches lives in our local community with love and compassion. Thank you to all our volunteers and donors. We are open all summer, so your continued support is greatly appreciated. Please remember your peanut butter and jelly donations! Be A Mentor Hudson Elementary School will be starting a mentoring program for girls in September. The program is intended to give the girls a special friend who will help build their character in their daily lives and at home. Meetings will be Mondays, 3 to 4:30pm, September through May. Each month the principal will provide material that will focus on a particular theme, such as honesty. For the program to be successful, they need female volunteers. Please consider volunteering to be that special friend and mentor for a young girl at Hudson Elementary. Here s how to volunteer: 1. Call the church office and leave your name, phone number and address. 2. Fill out our church volunteer form (go online to our website or pick one up at the office.) 3. Register with Pasco County Schools at Pasco.k12fl after July 5th. Look for the volunteer pull down screen and fill out the form. Choose Hudson Elementary School. We will have a meeting in July to answer any questions or concerns about this program. Thank you! Loraine Cors, Education Chair 4
5 Darrell s descant by Darrell Day, Worship Director Helping you find Joy! (91.5 JOY FM, that is ) Do you listen to radio while you work, play, or drive around town? Are you familiar with 91.5, Joy FM? I have become a real fan the past couple of years. I am growing a new appreciation for the modern Christian songs and their impact on my life. As you have experienced the past year or so, we are doing a fairly new song each week to help us connect with current Christian worship trends. To set the record straight I am NOT a trend follower I feel like I am a trend setter! HA But, I also believe that for us to grow and develop as Christians, much of the newer music which comes right out of scripture helps us to connect with our own spiritual growth and that of those around us. We will begin to repeat some of the songs we have done this past year and they will become part of our repertoire. They are not meant to replace the hymns and songs we love just add to them! Today, I am asking you to give a listen to 91.5 Joy FM for a day or two. Notice the difference in your mood, your heart, and your life! While it IS a radio station and they play lots of music, they are also very involved in our community. When you go to their website (Joy FM Port Richey), you get a sense of all the many festivals, activities, opportunities to serve or be served that Joy FM promotes. I hope that we, as a church, can partner with them in a very meaningful way as we continue to deepen our involvement in the Hudson area Joy FM Helping you find JOY! Here s your homework stop me at church this week and tell me your new favorite song! The Encouragers by Ruth Lott and Betsy Triznadel June 28th at 10am in Room CE10, Doug Doan leads us in discussing What Do I Do With My Feelings? and The Feeling No One Talks About. Don s Desk by Don Tomko, Program Director Many of you know that I like country music. I was fortunate enough to win tickets to the Country 500, a 3-day country music festival on Memorial Day Weekend, located at Daytona International Speedway. It was a great event, but rain was in the forecast every day and we saw the rain as a bad thing. Because of the many recreational opportunities that we have outdoors in Florida (amusement parks, the beach, water parks, etc.), we tend to say, Rain, rain, go away, come again another day! We look at rain as a BAD thing because it could ruin our plans or at least put a damper on them. Matthew 5:45 states, He (God) sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. We interpret this to mean that God sends not only rain, but bad things to the just and the unjust. Many people use this verse when something bad happens. I got in a car accident. Well God sends rain on the just and the unjust! I lost my job. Well God sends rain on the just and the unjust! My mom has cancer. Well God sends rain on the just and the unjust! But in biblical times it was primarily an agrarian culture. The people were farmers. Rain was a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. So it isn t that God sends bad things to the just and the unjust. God sends good things to the just and the unjust. Friends, there will be a crack in our spiritual foundation if we misinterpret Matthew 5:45 and think the rain (referred to here) is negative. If we do, we will develop a fatalistic view of life. James 1:17 states Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights. God may allow some things to happen to us, but God, the Giver of every good gift, does not send bad things to us. It is against His nature. Everyone faces challenges in this life, but Christians have access to divine protection from the rain of Satan s killing, stealing and destroying (John 10:10). Jesus became a curse for us so that we could be offered the blessing of Abraham (Galatians 3:13-14). This blessing is received by faith when we say Yes to Jesus the greatest gift that we ever could receive. 5
