3 THURSDAY, MAY 3 7:45am Pray at the flagpole Join us at Hudson Elementary School as we circle around the flag in front of the school and pray for our nation, our community and our children. 6:00pm Community prayer and event Join us for food, fun, fellowship, and prayer at Hudson First UMC as we pray for our community, first responders, and our country. Firetrucks, Rescue Units, free hot dogs, chips, lemonade, and a special craft for the kids. GIVE TODAY Fifth Sunday Offering is one of the vital means of support for the Florida United Methodist Children s Home. Each month that has a fifth Sunday, the United Methodist Churches in the Florida Annual Conference are asked to receive an offering to support the ministry of the Children s Home. When you contribute to this offering, you allow us to carry on the life changing ministry of the Children s Home. The tradition of the Fifth Sunday Offering stretches back to our very beginning in It is our hope that each congregation will remember to give to the Children s Home on this Fifth Sunday. Heart to Heart is on the move and looking for new members to assist us in accomplishing our primary mission to support women and children in our community. We meet the 3rd Saturday of each month at 9:30am in the Children s Worship Center. Join us for our next meeting, Saturday May 19th, 9:30am for prayer, praise, fellowship, devotion, special speakers, and refreshments. 3

4 Darrell s descant by Darrell Day, worship director A few Sundays ago, I had a young man come up to me during our community building time. He was visibly shaken and somewhat emotional. He introduced himself, as did I, and he asked me about the song we had just sung as part of our worship opener. I informed him that the song is called The Well and that is was written and recorded by the group, Casting Crowns. He told me that the song was so powerful and engaging. It had torn at his heart. As a reminder, some of the lyrics go like this: I have what you need, But you keep on searchin', I've done all the work, But you keep on workin', When you're runnin' on empty, And you can't find the remedy, Just come to the well. You can spend your whole life, Chasin' what's missing, But that empty inside, It just ain't gonna listen. When nothing can satisfy, And the world leaves you high and dry, Just come to the well He was thirsty. His heart was empty. And he was searching. And I just happened to be there to meet him at the well. We don t get advanced warnings about those well-side encounters. They happen when you are not expecting them. I am glad that I was there to receive him and to talk about the power of the message in that song. There are many great new songs for us to use in worship. There are many great old songs for us to use in worship. The question is not Which ones do we like? The question should be How can we best reach a lost and dying world for Jesus Christ? Nothing else matters nothing. Now and then, I need to go to the well, myself. Maybe I ll see you there!! 4

5 Nancy s Notes by Nancy Hitt, Church Administrator HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!? As some of you know, I have an income tax business where I work in the evenings and weekends during tax season. This time of year, as things wind down for a while, I usually get my records caught up, write a check to pay the tithe for my business profits, and get some much-needed R&R. Several years ago during the summer, I was going over my records and budget for my business. I thought it was strange when I didn t see my tithe check recorded in my budget, so I went hunting for the check record. I was flabbergasted after searching through my records. There was no check recorded for my tithe. I looked at the records in another place; still no check. How did that happen? I thought. The answer wasn t hard to figure out. I sometimes feel like my life is being pulled in a hundred directions. I think about doing something, but then get pulled into something else instead. On occasion things slip through the cracks. That is why the Finance Committee sends out contribution statements several times throughout the year. We all have busy lives. Sometimes our good intentions don t materialize. This week we sent out contribution statements for those who gave in the first quarter of the year. If we have an address for you, it went out via . If we don t have an address on file, we mailed the statement. The statement will give you a chance to be sure you have given what you intended to give up to this point in the year. Please let Barb Mathias or me know if you have any questions on your statement. Thanks for supporting the church financially as we work together to reach Hudson for Jesus Christ! Change agents A cartoon depicts a man at a podium firing up a crowd. Who wants change? he shouts. You can almost hear the excitement and urgency. We do! the listeners cry, all raising their hands. But the next frame features a follow-up question: Who wants to change? The audience is silent and somber, with their hands down. The gospel Jesus announced and lived out promises monumental change: life instead of death, healing from sickness, hope to replace despair, peace and justice instead of war and oppression. Although God could wave his hand and make the world perfect, he chooses to work through humans. That means we must be willing to change too. Change can be scary, but God s newness will so transform the world and us that we ll never miss our old, broken reality. Heidi Mann 5
