2 In every way possible the Christian faith is an invitation for everyone to meet, grow to trust and serve God. We are called to be connectors in a disconnected world. That is the Jesus story. God calls everyone no one is too far away or too broken. We are a perfectly imperfect church serving our perfect God. Hospitality is seeing, hearing, and valuing every person we meet in our community, on our campus, in our worship and ministries. Part of our role as Christians and members of Hudson FUMC is to be a welcoming presence that leads everyone to their Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. To offer Christ is to lead people to commit to Christ, to become a Christian or Christ follower. This inward commitment is celebrated and recognized through the outward sign of baptism after a personal Profession of Faith. The United Methodist Church is Trinitarian we believe in One God in 3 Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus is God s Son who redeems us by his work on Calvary s Cross. The Holy Spirit is God with us teaching us how to live in Christ through our: Prayers, Presence (in worship and small groups), gifts (our finances), service, and witness (sharing our faith with others). Making disciples is our purpose. That happens in worship, small groups, and ministry through prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. An infant needs loving care and attention to grow and maintain health. The same is true of every Christian. We are given new life through the Holy Spirit. That life is fulfilled in Christ community. The church helps each Christian learn how to effectively pray, worship, and serve Christ. We create opportunities where we can regularly grow in our understanding of God, life, ourselves, and others. This church exists to introduce our neighbors to a life changing, eternity determining relationship with Jesus Christ. We do this through ministries empowered by our members: God s Food Pantry Redeemed Treasures Store Hudson Elementary School Northwest Elementary School West Pasco Pregnancy Center Off campus community events On campus community events Cub/Boy/Girl Scouts Business Referral Network Summer Sports Camp Walmart Academy Community movie nights And many more! Where will you serve Christ? Individual Offer the love of God to those around you and live in such a way that I am a faithful witness to Christ. Hudson FUMC We create systems that connect, welcome, and disciple newcomers. Fun activities to build relationships and a sense of belonging. Community networking and neighboring ministries. Welcome Center / greeters Hospitality carts Fresh Expressions off and on campus entry points that engage people where they are and lead them into Christ community. Individual Intentionally take advantage of opportunities to grow in my faith and commitment to Christ. Hudson FUMC We create systems that offer opportunities for people to make a commitment to grow in Christ and begin their journey as disciples. New Member s class Baptism Confirmation Emmaus Disciple Bible Study Sunday School classes Small groups Individual live out my purpose by sharing my faith through the my church s ministries growing in my connection with God. Hudson FUMC We create systems that enable people to make a difference to bear fruit through a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, giving to others, worshipping, and practicing spiritual disciplines. Worship acolyte/assistant, usher/greeter, sound/video. Choir/bells/instruments Sacred Dance/the arts Recorders/Native American Flute Communion prep/serving Individual engage others outside of my church by using my talents, gifts, and skills to share God s love through my life. Hudson FUMC We help people discover their God given gifts and find ways to use them to bring Christ to our community. SEE THE ENCLOSED LIST! Inserted in this bulletin is a list of existing ministries and expressions of where you may use your spiritual gifts, passion, and experience to make a difference both in your life and in God s world. Look the list over and check a few boxes. Then give Don a call at to setup an appointment to PLUG IN! Laity Sunday Offering H.O.P.E. to Our Community

3 Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. - Psalm 119:105 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. MY NOTES: We welcome everyone including those who are single, married, divorced, crying newborns, tired parents, and doting grandparents. We welcome those who are just browsing and those who know every hymn and praise song ever written. We welcome those who think the earth is flat, can t spell, or because grandma is in town you wanted to go to church. You have found a perfectly imperfect church filled with perfectly imperfect people who worship our perfect Lord. First time guests - please pickup a welcome gift at the welcome desk in the lobby. Once again, welcome! Practice The Pause When in doubt, pause. When angry, pause. When stressed, pause. And, when you pause Pray! 6 Darrell s descant by Darrell Day, worship director Greg Moebs was a typical teenage boy growing up in Indianapolis. He had a very loving and supportive family. He attended Roncali Catholic High School which is located on the South side of the city. They are very well known for their academics and their football teams. AND they had one more attribute that set them apart from most other schools a very active and successful music department. Besides having a high school band and a theory class or two, Roncali had 6 choirs!! The choral director was Lynn Starkey and she was an enthusiastic and well prepared educator. She lived her faith and was a real inspiration to her students. That is the reason that Greg Moebs joined one of the choirs Ms. Starkey was AWESOME! Well, early on in the 1989 school year, Ms. Starkey called me with a problem. It seems that Greg s enthusiasm for singing was not matched by his abilities to do so! In other words, he was HORRIBLE!! She asked me if I would take Greg on as a private student. I had done some vocal production clinics with her choirs and she thought that Greg might benefit from some private instruction. I learned quickly that Greg and I would need some time together! He could only sing an A and Bb below low C. Pretty much a grunting kind of drone But, I love a challenge and Greg wanted to sing well so we began. After about a year and a half, Greg s range widened significantly, his tone improved a great deal, and his confidence grew like crazy! He sang in his show choir, in the high school musical, and went to sing at Purdue University. I don t know where Greg is today but I do know that God used me to help him discover a voice that most others would say was never there! If you feel like you cannot sing that your voice is the worst in the world, but you wish that you could sing call me. God can develop any gift. I teach privately at the church at no charge to you and I would love to have you join us in choir. Many voices cover a multitude of vocal imperfections! Be like Greg Moebs let me help you discover your gift of singing! Thanks for all you do to make this world (and our community) a better place! by Laura Arnold Many emotions surface when you take on the job of caregiving. Some of these feelings happen right away and some don t surface until you have been caregiving for awhile. Whatever your situation, it is important to remember that you, too, are important. All of your emotions, good and bad, about caregiving are not only allowed, but valid and important. Caregivers are often reluctant to express these negative feelings for fear they will be judged by others (or judge themselves) or don t want to burden others with their problems. But after awhile, the negative emotions that we tend to bury or pretend we aren t feeling come up. If you don t deal with ALL of your emotions, they can be like a two-year-old who wants your attention: they will keep tugging at you until you stop and acknowledge them. Not paying attention to your feelings can lead to poor sleep, illness, trouble coping, stress eating, substance abuse, etc. When you admit to your feelings, you can then find productive ways to express them and deal with them, so that you and your care receiver can cope better in the future. Join our Caregiver's Support Group, which meets here at Hudson First United Methodist Church on the third Tuesday of every month at 10:30am. You can share your emotions, express yourself without any judgment and learn how other caregivers have learned to cope. Contact: Laura Arnold, larnold32@gmail.com, Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished. 1 Chronicles 28:20
