2 What a great time of worship Sunday as we baptized Noah Bell to start the new church year. Mark Kincer brought a good message Sunday night on the attitudes of the heart from the Beatitudes. I preached Sunday morning about the call to show up for battle when the Lord brings victory. This Sunday we continue our series ALL ABOARD with the call to Battle Stations. Do you know that our church is like a battleship and we are in spiritual warfare? That s right. Satan is our enemy and he is attacking us daily. He uses the influences of the world, his own deceptive schemes, and even the weakness of our human flesh. That s why it is essential that we put on the armor of God. We do not war against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil in the darkest realms. The call today is to Man Your Battle Stations and fight the forces of evil. Are you ready? This Sunday night Larry Adams will begin the six-part evangelism and discipleship series call 3 Circles: Turning Everyday Conversations into Gospel Presentations. I encourage everyone to show up Sunday night at 6:00 P.M. to be equipped for battle. Our weapon of warfare is the power of the Gospel message. If you are already aa gifted evangelist and are discipling new believers, you may not need this training. But I will be there to sharpen my own skills for battle. Do you know how to wield this powerful weapon called the Gospel? It is God s plan of salvation from scripture. It includes your personal testimony. It is trusting the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to take advantage of common opportunities to lead someone to Jesus. This is one weapon that will defeat the enemy and help to set people free to live the life God intends for them. Do you know what is involved in follow up after someone is saved? Do you know how to disciple a believer? How can you come along side someone and help them to connect to the church family? How would you teach someone to plug not the ministries of the church? Weapon training starts Sunday night. May the whole crew be on deck. I ll be there, and I ll be looking for God to do something good for this ship and her faithful crew in the waters ahead. East Kentucky Expo Center Pikeville, Kentucky How beautiful on the mountains the feet of those who bring good news. Isaiah 52:7 You are invited to be a part of an exciting, one-day revival on Sunday, November 11 th. You will join Kentucky Baptists from across the state as we praise and worship the name of Jesus with a 300-voice choir, led by Jason Stewart. Evangelist Jon Reed will lead the revival and will be joined on stage by the Jason Lovins Band and other special guests as we seek to share the gospel in eastern Kentucky.

3 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 September means it is time to place an emphasis on state missions through the Eliza Broadus Offering and it is an excellent opportunity to speak with your family about how your family, and our church, can help with different ministries around the state. Our church has set a goal of $600 to help with ministries such as the following: Multiply Eastern Kentucky this is a partnership for evangelism and church planting in Eastern Kentucky. Our region has 19 out of the top 25 most lost counties in Kentucky based upon percentage of lostness ( Out of 120 counties, Letcher County ranks as the 11 th most lost county. Disaster Relief Ministry In recent months, this group of volunteers has served in Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Illinois, Florida, Texas, Virgin Islands, Madagascar, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe. In North America during that time frame, they provided more than 317,000 meals, 7,800 showers, and 500 loads of laundry. Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief helped more than 1,500 families with flood recovery, fire clean-up, chainsaw work, and roof tarping. While taking part in these acts of service, they also shared their faith through more than 10,000 ministry contacts and 3,500 chaplain visits. Adopting School: Opening Doors this is a ministry in the Louisville Regional Baptist Association that encourages churches to adopt a local school through prayer, building relationships, and acts of service. Activities have included prayer walks, notes of encouragement for teachers, donations of school supplies, teacher appreciation gifts, and clothing and food donations through Family Resource Coordinators. Kentucky Changers this ministry, through in-state mission trips, participates in home repairs in four locations each summer (for homes in each of those locations). Participants in these mission trips are encouraged to build relationships with the home owners and to share their testimony. The Eliza Broadus Offering helps to fund these and many other mission efforts across the state State Missions Prayer Guides are available at the welcome desk and offering envelopes are in the pew. Please prayerfully consider how your family may be able to help with special offering. 4 We will sing, sing, sing And make music with the heavens We will sing, sing, sing Grateful that You hear us When we shout your praise Lift high the name of Jesus. On of my favorite Chris Tomlin songs is Sing, Sing, Sing. It is one of his shorter songs, but the song packs a huge message about lifting high the name of Jesus through song. I love singing and especially singing praises to the Lord. I encourage you to join the music ministry of our church. Get plugged into the choir, use that voice to Sing, Sing, Sing, and better yet, Shout His Praises. Children s Choir will begin this Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M. in the choir room. The children will be learning music and a play entitled, Straight Outta Bethlehem. This is a great opportunity for your son or daughter to be a part of a great ministry. Wendy Little, Angie Horn and Eleanor Caudill will be leading our Children s Choir and are very excited to begin working on our children s Christmas program. On November 11, the Kentucky Baptist Convention will be holding a one-day revival, Hope for the Mountains at the East Kentucky Exposition Center from 6:30-8:00 P.M. Evangelist Jon Reed, from Georgia, will be bringing the message; the Jason Lovins Band will be singing; and Jason Bubba Stewart will be leading the music. Bubba will be leading a large choir, made up of churches throughout our area, including us! In August, he will post the music we will be singing and we will begin working on this music during choir practice. There will be one mass practice at the Expo Center at 4:00 P.M. on the day of the revival. I am very excited and hope each of you will join us on Sunday nights to prepare the music for this awesome opportunity. Don t forget we will also be starting music for Christmas real soon as well! Since the beginning of Operation Christmas Child in 1993, countless individuals have shared their passion for the project and inspired families, groups and churches to pack shoebox gifts. These project leaders create opportunities for people across the United States to touch the lives of children and families around the world and to bring hope through the Good New of Jesus Christ. For the month of September, we will collect: hygiene items (this includes soap, washcloths, combs, and toothbrushes). You can make a donation by making your check payable to First Baptist Church and write Shoeboxes on the memo line. 5 We are wrapping up our Wednesday night study in the book of Genesis and will begin a new study immediately afterward. We are beginning a new quarter in Sunday School classes and will be studying the books of Galatians and James. Wednesday night and Sunday mornings are great times for our youth to dig into and study God s word. Please encourage your youth to attend and to bring friends. The Hospice Center in Hazard needs the following items: coffee, single bags of chips, snack cakes, water, and other items that families could use while staying with their loved ones. I think it would be a great project for us to gather these items and deliver them to Hazard Hospice. If you would like to bring items, place them in the stairwell downstairs over the next two weeks and we will deliver them. Xtreme Winter Conference 2018 will be the weekend of December The artists this year are Toby Mac, Casting Crowns, Colton Dixon, Ledger, Jordan Feliz, OBB, and Newsong. The conference pastors this year are Johnny Hunt, Tom Richter, Brook Gill and Zane Black. If you signed up for Xtreme Winter Youth Conference 2018, the total cost this year is $144.
