Questions/Thoughts to Consider: To experience one s self as God s beloved is a gift beyond compare. For some, it is difficult to receive such a gift; for others, such grace comes more easily. How can we deepen our experience of that gift in ourselves? How might we encourage this gift in others?

3 Weekly Prayer Concerns Karen Chewning, Dottie Gottshall, Judith Deos, Paul Garst, Nyna Murray, Garland & Betty Bowman, Kin & Carolyn Otterman, Tom & Evelyn Huffman, Becky Jamison, Ruth Michael, Dean Reed, Frances Ward (Jackie Talevi s mother), and Virginia Shutters (Rita Enoch s mother) Pray for National Youth Conference (NYC) of the Church of the Brethren meeting in Colorado from July 21 to 26. Let us pray that this will be a mountaintop spiritual experience for our youth, and pray for their counselors and the event leadership, as well as travelling mercies en-route and on the return journey. The green candle on the organ burns in remembrance of the Christians in Nigeria experiencing religious persecution. Especially pray for Aisha Lawan, kidnapped with other girls from Chibok in May 2014 and still missing. Before this day takes hold of me and I am spread too thin by care, I come to you to sit quietly, for you are good to those who wait for you, to the soul that seeks your peace. Fill me with your life-giving presence; may all that I do this day be done with calm attention, for you are my strength and peace. Amen. Household Prayer: Evening Thank you for helping me to become a more generous and attentive person this day. As I let go of all the things done and left undone this day, make me mindful that it is your strength and steadfast loving presence that keeps my faith whole and fills me with a quiet confidence. We have raised $1, this year for our 2 -a-meal campaign. We need volunteers to help prepare weekly Pack-a-Snack food bags for students at RCPS+ summer school at Breckenridge Middle School. See Lorrie Hite with questions. Downtown Churches next From Communion to Community meeting will be at Calvary Baptist Church from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 19. It will again consist of a shared meal and conversations about building community in the Roanoke Valley. During August, Eric Anspaugh and Pastor Kevin will be leading and facilitating a series on dialogue during the Sunday school hour. They will present teaching about tools and scripture references to help people engage in real give-and-take conversation, not just debate. Antioch Church of the Brethren near Rocky Mount will host the World Hunger Auction on Saturday, August 11 beginning at 9:30 am. It will include sale of crafts, quilts, toys, produce, baked and canned goods, and more. Come early for the best selection.

6 Sabrina s Place, which hosts supervised visitation and a safe child exchange space for parents in Roanoke, is in need of donations of money to keep its programs going and also some wish list items for the facility. Wish list is posted in the narthex. The Brethren Encyclopedia Project, a cooperative venture of the seven main Brethren groups descended from Alexander Mack s Brethren movement of 1708, is sponsoring the Sixth Brethren World Assembly at Winona Lake, Indiana from August Session topics include Brethren history and thought as well as current partnerships and projects. Program schedule and registration info available online at brethrenencyclopedia.org Why adopt? What are the joys and challenges of adoption? What do I wish my congregation knew about adoption? Virlina District offers Making Sense of Adoption: Learning from Others Stories as a chance to ask and learn about all these facets of adoption and more. Held at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren on Saturday, August 18 from 8:30 am to 2 pm. Lunch and childcare provided. Register at by August 10. The 24 th Annual Camp Bethel Golf Tournament, an important fundraiser for summer camp ministries. will be held at Botetourt Golf Club around noon on Wednesday, August 22. Register on-line for this fun captain s choice tournament by August 15 to play. Camp Bethel is also still looking for sponsors and would appreciate donations of sleeves of balls, golf course greens fees, and other golfthemed prizes. Brethren Disaster Services is sponsoring several weeks of cleanup help in St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands.)
