FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST June 17, 2018 Welcome to worship at Redeemer! We are pleased to have you with us today. We want to help make your time with us more worshipful by providing you with the following information: Welcome Center: in the narthex, please take home a water bottle with information about Redeemer as our gift for first time visitors Service of Friendship Cards: in pew racks, please sign and pass to the center aisle during the offering or scan the QR code Large Print Orders of Service: available from an usher Children s Activity Bags: in the narthex, contain simple activities for children to do during the worship service Children s Bulletins: in the narthex or from an usher, provide activities for older children to do during the service Fellowship Time: coffee is served in the narthex Restrooms: men s, women s and family restrooms are down the west hallway, an additional women s restroom is down the middle hallway Changing Tables: located in the family restroom and in the women s restroom down the middle hallway Questions? Please ask an usher, they would be happy to help Sunday School and King s Kids Sunday School will start back up in the fall. King s Kids will continue through the summer. There will be NO King s Kids on June 30. King s Kids takes a break the month of August and will start back up in Sept. Church Nursery Available at all services; located in the Nursery room off the middle hallway; for children kindergarten age and younger, staffed by volunteers. 1

2 Pastor Daniel s Installation If you or a loved one is hospitalized, please contact the church office or note it on the back of your Service of Friendship card so a member of our clergy staff can visit and bring a word of encouragement. Flowers The flowers in the chancel this week are given to the glory of God by Pam Niemi in celebration of her grandchildren Samuel & Piper s baptism. June 24, :00 p.m. Rev. Daniel Ondov will be installed as Redeemer s Associate Pastor on June 24, There will be a special service at 4:00 p.m. followed by a dinner in the multi-purpose room. We would love for you to join us as we welcome Daniel & Stacy to our church family. Please look on the welcome center to see a sign up sheet, if you would like to bring a salad. 3 Annual Prayer Shawl Celebration Lunch The Prayer Shawl ministry will have a celebration Potluck Luncheon on Tuesday, June 19 at 12:00 noon at the home of Donna Fegan. They will meet at church at 11:45 to carpool. The Prayer Shawl group is celebrating their 9 year anniversary and have made 200 prayer shawls. It is an important ministry that meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month from 1:00 to 2:00. They welcome anyone that would like to join them. The prayer shawls are very meaningful and a comfort to the people that have received them. Call Donna at with questions. East Bethlehem Detroit 2018 Mission A Redeemer mission team is going to East Bethlehem in Detroit, Monday, June 25 to Sunday, July 1. The team members are: Dick Bohjanen, May Bohjanen, Sharleen Christensen, Donna Fegan, John Fegan, Rick Hartwig, Terry Hartwig, Kim Marsh and Donna Taylor, Candy Weber, Paul Weber and former Redeemer members who moved downstate, Gloria LaPointe, and Mike LaPointe. Their Commissioning will be Saturday, June 9. The mission will include painting the sanctuary and hosting a community BBQ. MOST Ministries is the lead organization for this mission. They invite you to pray for their mission. Garden Brunch Women s Ministry will be hosting their annual Garden Brunch on Saturday, June 23 rd at 10:00a.m. The event includes a tasty brunch, a devotion, a gardening presentation, and a plant swap. Floral embellished hats and clothing are encouraged. No garden experience is required just come and enjoy the fellowship and food if you d like! Please sign up on the Women s Ministry board. 5 SCRIPTURE READINGS Ezekiel 17: This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. 24 All the trees of the field will know that I the LORD bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it. 2 Corinthians 5: Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 We live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. 5

A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come. 30 Again he said, What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade. 33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything. 6
