FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS December 31, 2017 Welcome to worship at Redeemer! We are pleased to have you with us today. We want to help make your time with us more worshipful by providing you with the following information: Welcome Center: in the narthex, please take home a water bottle with information about Redeemer as our gift for first time visitors Service of Friendship Cards: in pew racks, please sign and pass to the center aisle during the offering or scan the QR code Large Print Orders of Service: available from an usher Children s Activity Bags: in the narthex, contain simple activities for children to do during the worship service Children s Bulletins: in the narthex or from an usher, provide activities for older children to do during the service Fellowship Time: coffee is served in the narthex Restrooms: men s, women s and family restrooms are down the west hallway, an additional women s restroom is down the middle hallway Changing Tables: located in the family restroom and in the women s restroom down the middle hallway Questions? Please ask an usher, they would be happy to help Sunday School and King s Kids Each family is encouraged to complete a registration form and leave it with your child s teacher or in the church office. Completing a form will help us keep accurate and up to date information concerning the children and how we can best serve them. Church Nursery Available at all services; located in the Nursery room off the middle hallway; for children kindergarten age and younger, staffed by volunteers. 1

2 The Lord s Supper If you or a loved one is hospitalized, please contact the church office or note it on the back of your Service of Friendship card so a member of our clergy staff can visit and bring a word of encouragement. The movie to be shown is: Cinderella The 2015 American live-action film distributed by Walt Disney Pictures is inspired by the fairytale Cinderella and uses some elements of the 1950 s animated film of the same name. Who doesn t love Cinderella s story? Dress comfortably and if you wish, bring a snack or sweet item to share. Women s Ministry will provide popcorn and bottled water. If you have questions, contact Amy Leahy, Women s Ministry Fellowship & Outreach Coordinator, at Sign up at the Women s Ministry bulletin board if you plan to attend. WIF WIF, Widows in Fellowship will meet for lunch at Vango's restaurant on Friday, January 12, at 11:30am. Would you enjoy some lively conversation with good company? Please come and join the group! Feel free to invite a friend; any widow who would like some upbeat Christian fellowship is welcome. Please sign the sheet on the Women's Ministry board so we know how many to expect. 3 Honduras Mission 2018 The January 2018 Honduras mission team will be leaving January 19. The mission will be a ten day mission opportunity that will include medical clinics, witnessing and distribution of school supplies. The mission will be in La Ceibita and surrounding viillages. There are nine members from Redeemer; Dick Bohjanen, May Bohjanen, Donna Fegan, John Fegan, Dariya Goin, Pastor Chad Ott, Emily Ott, Jason Welch, and Molly Welch. They are asking for prayer partners before, during and after their mission trip. There will also be an opportunity for you to come forward during their Commissioning on Saturday, January 13 at the 5:00 p.m. service. They would like to thank you for all your prayers and support for this mission. Thrivent Choice Dollars Reminder Thrivent Financial NO LONGER SENDS OUT reminders to direct your Choice Dollars to the church or preschool. You must either log on to or call (800) and state Thrivent Choice and a representative will assist you. Members are reminded that they must redirect their Choice Dollars quarterly or annually. You have until March 31, 2018 to direct your Choice Dollars for 2017 or lose them. If you have any questions, please contact the church office at Belize Mission Presentation The presentation of the summer June medical mission trip to San Ignacio, Belize will be during the Education Hour on Sunday, January 7. This mission trip was through MOST Ministries out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. There were ten members of Redeemer, one from Arizona and three from downstate. The Redeemer members were: Dick Bohjanen, May Bohjanen, Donna Fegan, Lisa Flood, Rick Hartwig, Terry Hartwig, Axel Seitz, Cammy Seitz, Michele Seitz, and Mick Seitz. Come and learn about this important mission that included five medical sites. 3

Dealing with topics such as guarding our hearts, managing our thought lives, and overcoming the Flesh Women in us all, Joanna takes us to the Word of God and the power of grace to transform our lives. 6 SCRIPTURE READINGS Isaiah 61:10-62:3 10 I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. 1 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. 2 The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow. 3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD's hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. Galatians 4:4-7 4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. 6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.. 6

7 SCRIPTURE READINGS Luke 2: When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons." 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 29 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all people, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." 33 The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too." 36 There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. 39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him. 7
