It is the year's best opportunity to reach out to people who are drawn to our faith with information, a warm welcome, and an invitation to participate in the life of our parish. The Welcoming Ministry team is seeking volunteers to help us staff tables at both church doors, at the 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Masses on December 24th. We'll greet people as they arrive, offer fliers listing events and ministries, and stand ready to answer questions. Welcoming others is a great way to get to know your fellow parishioners. 4 Parish News & Events Mission Dinner Community The Mission Dinner Community meets monthly, the second Sunday of the month September-May, for a delicious home-made dinner to raise funds for global poverty causes, and to plan partnership steps with organizations that minister to the poor and underprivileged. By participating with a suggested donation of $20 per adult and $5 per child, you ll get a great meal, meet great folks from the parish, and support great causes. The December 14th and January 11th dinners will be focused on our support of the Mexicali Parish. The Henthorn-Iwane family will be visiting Mexicali in late December, so we ll hear about those plans and the report back in the January meeting. In February, we re hosting the second fundraiser for St. Mary s College High School Immersion Program to support their El Salvador and Montana teams. Join us on January 11th, February 8th and March 8th in Norton Hall at 6:00 p.m. for appetizers, with dinner at 7:00 p.m.. Christmas Novena Cards Christmas Novena Cards are now available in the parish office and after Sunday Masses at Coffee Hour. This is a wonderful gift for family and friends! Our Christmas Novena will take place December 27th through January 4th. For more info, please contact the parish office. Thank You Thank you to all that supported the Music Ministry by coming to our concerts! We had a wonderful time sharing our talents and music with the community! We will have a concert on Christmas Eve beginning at 9:30 p.m. before the 10:00 p.m. Mass featuring music from our concert "Through the Eyes of Women" held on December 13th. Epic: A Journey Through Church History Beginning January 29, 2015, this 20-week study program will be presented at our Parish on Thursday evenings. This course is offered by Ascension Press, and the Parish will be ordering the study kits to take advantage of a volume discount. 6 Faith & Spirituality Religious Vocations An excerpt from Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) Apostolic Exhortation of the Holy Father FRANCIS We must not think that in catechesis the kerygma gives way to a supposedly more solid formation. Nothing is more solid, profound, secure, meaningful and wisdomfilled than that initial proclamation. All Christian formation consists of entering more deeply into the kerygma, which is reflected in and constantly illumines, the work of catechesis, thereby enabling us to understand more fully the significance of every subject which the latter treats. It is the message capable of responding to the desire for the infinite which abides in every human heart. The centrality of the kerygma calls for stressing those elements which are most needed today: it has to express God s saving love which precedes any moral and religious obligation on our part; it should not impose the truth but appeal to freedom; it should be marked by joy, encouragement, liveliness and a harmonious balance which will not reduce preaching to a few doctrines which are at times more philosophical than evangelical. All this demands on the part of the evangelizer certain attitudes which foster openness to the message: approachability, readiness for dialogue, patience, a warmth and welcome which is nonjudgmental.
