A Message from our Pastor Today s Gospel message from Saint Luke on this Fourth Sunday of Advent is the story of the Annunciation. It is the moment when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and announced to her that she would be the mother of God s son. I cannot help but wonder what must have gone through Mary s mind as the angel Gabriel spoke to her delivering God s message. Imagine this very young woman we would consider her a child in today s world receiving this awesome message from God! Through the centuries artists have tried to capture this moment. What would it have looked like? What did Mary see? What did she experience in the presence of God s messenger and heard the message? We may never know the answer to those questions until we see God ourselves. But what we can know is that in order to experience the presence of the holy messenger and hear those words, Mary was a woman of faith and of prayer. She was someone who created the time and space to be present to God and to hear what God wanted to say to her. And, more importantly, she had the courage to act on the message that God spoke to her through the angel. As we approach Christmas Day on Monday, these days are filled with the excitement and joy of children waiting for their favorite Saint Nicholas. Adults may share that joy but can also experience the stress that can accompany this holiday. May I suggest that we all hold Mary as our model. Whether we experience the excitement or the stress of these days, Mary shows us that with faith, we are always ready for the unexpected. As people of prayer, we will hear the voice of God. And it is our regular participation in the Eucharist that gives us strength to put our faith into action as Mary did. Without a disposition like Mary s, we will never hear what God wants to say to us and put his will into action. Maybe this year you might consider giving yourself a gift the gift of time and space to pray for a few moments each day. You just might find that it is a gift that grows and blossoms as you nurture it, feed it and cultivate it. It is a gift that will last a lifetime. It is a gift that can be shared with others. It is the Fourth Sunday of Advent, but this week lasts only one day before we celebrate the great Feast of Christmas. Be assured of our prayers during the celebrations of the Eucharist on Christmas and during this holy season. 4 Celebrate Epiphany with Us! Friday, January 5 Bring your gifts to the child, bring your gifts to our parish, and make this a beautiful gift to your family to celebrate the season together! For the last 10 years, St. Tim s has been joyfully welcoming the infant Jesus into our lives with a prayerful, but fun family celebration! It takes a village to create this spectacle of love and community! Each year our celebration grows in scope and joy. It is easy and fun to be a part of the celebration! It is a lot of fun and it is a BIG and WONDERFUL event for our parish. We hear the entire story of the Christmas season, including the visit of the 3 kings. There is food, friendship, music, and lots of laughter. We need kids, teens, and adults to participate in our intergenerational pageant! We need people with a willingness to jump in and have fun. Dress rehearsal is Thursday, January 4 from 5:30-6:30 pm. If you want to be part of this, and can t make the next rehearsal, by all means, please let us know! We will find a way for you and your family to join the merriment! We also need helpers behind the scenes! We need help with costumes, dinner set-up and clean-up, angel herding and sheep wrangling, make-up, props, and many other things! If you are willing to help, we ll find a job for you! If you are interested in participating in the pageant or in any other way, please call the office at or Colleen at CNCampion@yahoo.com Epiphany Dinner We gather at 6pm that evening in the church hall for a pasta dinner. Last year over 300 people gathered in the hall, ate together, crowned 3 kings from our king s cakes, and ascended to the church to experience again the wonder and joy of Jesus birth in song and festive prayer! Please join us for dinner and fellowship. We need to provide the caterer with a count for the dinner, so please sign up in the gathering space in the church. All are most welcome! Children's Hospital Blood Drive The three kings brought gifts to the Christ-child. As we celebrate Epiphany, may we too bring gifts to those seeking shelter and care. Parishioners response last year was overwhelming, and we hope to repeat or exceed this level of generosity again. When you come to enjoy dinner and our Epiphany celebration on Friday evening, January 5th, please bring along a donation of diapers, baby wipes, sheets and/or towels for the homeless residents at Evelyn House in Stoughton. The majority of residents at Evelyn House are mothers and children, many in dire need. Please be as generous as you can. Thank you! There will be a blood drive to benefit Boston Children's Hospital on Wed., January 10th, The bloodmobile will be in the St. Timothy's Parish parking lot from 1pm until 7pm. To sign up to donate blood go to halfpints.childrenshospital.org Sponsor code for this drive is STC NORW. You can also call the Parish Nurse Office to schedule an appointment, , ext. 34. For specific questions about donating blood please call the Blood Donor Center at Each donation can help four young patients! Thanks in advance for your generosity! As the days get shorter and the nighttime longer, we are reminded that we are also approaching the cold and flu season. As a faith community, we are quite blessed to be able to distribute Holy Communion under both species: both the Body of Christ and the Blood of Christ. We would like to remind parishioners that at all times, but especially during the cold and flu season, we should be aware of our own health before approaching the Cup to receive the Blood of Christ. If we are feeling ill at all, we should refrain from receiving from the Cup. We thank you all for being attentive to this matter. St. Tim s Book Group News Our meetings are held once a month on Mondays, from 7:30-9pm. All are welcome to attend on a drop in basis! Come if you have read the book and want to discuss it! 5 Faith Formation Together, we make a difference! Three groups of St. Timothy students and chaperones served our local communities on Tuesday, December 12th, sharing and receiving God s love. Residents at Harrington House enjoyed a game of 20 Questions with our students. The conversations generated by the game were fun and took many unexpected directions as students learned about residents lives. Guests at Main Spring House in Brockton enjoyed a pasta dinner with meatballs, sauce, bread, salad and dessert, cooked and served by our students and chaperones. Thank you to all who donated to help make the meal possible! At My Brother s Keeper in Easton, students and chaperones wrapped gifts for families in need and were able to make two deliveries on their way home. Service provides experiences which students can examine in light of our faith. Particularly as we celebrate Christmas, Where is God today? Where is Jesus today? Where is the Spirit today? must be prayed, lived and reflected upon. Just as Jesus was welcomed by Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and the three kings, so too we welcome Jesus in our service to one another today! Please continue to pray for our students, their parents and the dedicated catechists who faithfully teach and guide our students. In case of inclement weather, an will be sent home to parents of all students affected by class cancellations.
