6 The Introduction The Renunciation of Sin On behalf of the whole church, I ask you: Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin? I do. Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? I do. Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? I do. According to the grace given to you, will you remain faithful members of Christ s holy church and serve as Christ s representatives in the world? I will. The Thanksgiving over the Water The Reaffirmation of Faith Persons are invited to come forward, touch the water in the font and remember their baptism. The altar will be available for prayer. The Prayer After the Reaffirmation Father in heaven, at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Grant that all who are baptized into his name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, One God, in glory everlasting. 8 AVISIONTO END WORLD HUNGER Stop Hunger Now has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger across the globe for more than 14 years. Established in 1998, Stop Hunger Now coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid to crisis-burdened areas around the world. This is accomplished through popular community-supported meal packaging programs that often are part of corporate responsibility or volunteer service projects. Mission Lazarus - Honduras 2012 Orlando - Helping Hands 2012 What distinguishes Stop Hunger Now from other aid/relief organizations that are also supplying food and in-kind aid is the focus on engaging volunteers in a hands-on activity to produce meals that are used strategically to support development programs, while at the same time fostering the growth of a movement to end hunger by educating those volunteers about the need and giving them an opportunity to take action. Stop Hunger Now distributes its meals through feeding programs operated by partner organizations in developing countries which promote education, encourage children to attend school, improve the health and nutrition of students, address gender inequalities, spur economic growth, combat child labor, and create a platform for tackling global issues. In addition to supporting school feeding programs, Stop Hunger Now also provides meals in response to crisis relief. Give Drop off monetary donations to the reception desk. By educating meal-packaging volunteers about the impact of Stop Hunger Now meals and its partners programs on children s health and academic performance, we have the opportunity to educate and motivate thousands of people about the issue of hunger and what canpackage be done to meals eliminate this solvable problem. New Members On January 5 we welcomed Donnie Dean to the Athens First United Methodist Church family. Freeway Bible Study Today Freeway: A Way to be Free is an eight-week study built upon God s amazing grace, conversations with friends, and a personal exploration of our pain and loss. This study leads participants to greater experience God s love and freedom in their life. Freeway will meet Sunday evenings at 5 p.m., beginning January 12, and will be facilitated by Tiffany Fessler. The cost of this study is $15. 13 The 33 Series: A Man and His Design January 15 The 33 The Series is designed to inspire and equip men to pursue authentic manhood as modeled by Jesus Christ in His 33 years on earth.
