In my June 10 th sermon, I referenced this funeral and in that sermon I said, touching might not be the right word because it took hold of me. It was an important funeral. One of the things that has been on my mind since that funeral are the songs I will want sung by the people gathered at my funeral. Really, I only have one written down in pen, but that one will be tough to pull off:maybe. It is a camp song. I think many of you have gotten the sense that campfire songs were an important part of my growing up years. The campfire song I d like sung at my funeral is, He is Alive. I figure it will be tough to pull off because it is not the most well-known of campfire songs. It is no, Pass It On or Bullfrogs and Butterflies or one of those other ones that gets requested by the campers at every campfire. I cannot find it in any of the campfire songbooks that I have. The chorus goes, He, He, He, He is alive! [clap, clap, clap-clap-clap, clap-clapclap-clap, clap, clap] and then repeats once. The verses are also short and have that clapping pattern at the end of each of them. One of them goes, I will see Him up above the clouds. I ll hear Him call my name out loud! It is that distinctive chord progression and singing pattern and clapping pattern that made those lyrics really sing out the joy and confidence of Jesus resurrection and the promise of our own resurrection by Him. That is why I want He is Alive to be sung at my funeral. I think I am going to have to track down a song sheet and recording of that song so it can happen. There are a lot of other great options for songs to be sung at Christian funerals. As you are hopefully asking yourself this question now, let me encourage you to pick out the songs that most loudly speak of our hope, joy, love, and grace that we have in Christ. Maybe, like many, the message of God s love for us being incarnate of the Virgin Mary as sung in Silent Night is particularly meaningful for you. Maybe, the Amazing Grace of God that saves even the worst and most wayward is particularly meaningful for you. Maybe the strength of God s promises that have seen you through thick and thin as sung in Thy Strong Word is particularly meaningful for you. Maybe the powerful story of I Can Only Imagine is particularly meaningful for you. Whichever songs come to mind for you, it is a great favor that you give to your family and those planning your funeral that have identified them and directed them to be sung at your funeral. It is a great favor that you identify a song that sings our Gospel hope in Christ for your family and friends and community who need that hope at all times and especially when we are grieved by death.
The St. Paul Messenger Page 2 REMINDER Quarterly Voters Meeting Sunday, July 15th 9:30 a.m. We will meet to vote on our budget. LADIES AID NEWS The St. Paul Ladies Aid met on Thursday, June 7th. Barbara Schweitzer read devotions honoring Fathers Day. We all told of one thing we could remember about out fathers that we never forget. Roll call was taken with ladies present. Secretary & Treasurer report was read & approved. A motion was made to give $ to the VBS for material and supplies, carried. There was no birthdays for the month of June. Barbara Schweitzer was hostess for the month of June providing us with dessert and coffee. July will be our picnic, but instead we are going to Waupaca to meet Henrietta Baumer. We will travel to Waupaca to eat at a nice place and catch up with each other. Henrietta is a dear member and we truly miss her. CHIDREN NEEDED TO SING & CHOIR Looking for children who would like to sing one Sunday in August. The song is Clap Your Hands based on Psalm 47 vs 1-2. Practice is between services on July 29, sing August 5. Looking for people to sing in the Christmas Cantata, Love Came Down. Watch the bulletin for when practice will start. SUMMER OFFICE HOURS Church office will be open Monday, Thursday, & Friday 8:00 a.m.-noon.
The St. Paul Messenger Page 3 SCHOOL NEWS The school theme for the is Anchored in Christ from Hebrews 6:19. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. The teachers selected this verse as our school year theme because of the strong message that God is sending to us. The message that Jesus is our Hope in all times. Sponsor a Student How do you support St. Paul Lutheran Church and School? Is your support found in regular church attendance? Do you attend the special functions at St. Paul? Do you attend bible study or help with Sunday School or VBS? Do you serve in a leadership role at St. Paul? Do you faithfully give to support the missions of St. Paul? The Sponsor a Student program will give congregational members a chance to assist the families and students of St. Paul in another way. Unlike financial aid, this program will simply allow a congregational member to sponsor a student without the paperwork of applying for financial aid. Members can sponsor a student for a month, a semester, or an entire year. The amount of contribution or commitment is decided by the sponsor. This commitment could range from $50, a monthly payment, to $950, a yearly payment. Donors would remain anonymous. During the school year, over $3,000 was donated to the Sponsor A Student Program. Specially marked donations can be dropped off in the school or church office any time. Please consider this program as a way to help a student receive a Christian Education at St. Paul Lutheran School. Anyone interested in donating to this worthy cause can bring donations to the school office. Have you heard about all of the great things happening at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School? Tell someone else!

The St. Paul Messenger Page 5 YOUTH GROUP NEWS The Youth Group would like to thank everyone who bought flowers for the Cross Garden. We hope that it fills in by Rodeo Weekend! Please help yourself to any weeds you see! Youth Group meetings will be posted on Facebook so please keep an eye out for posts. If you do not have FB please message me so I can text you or your parent. Happy Summer! Shell Kaczorowski TAPE MINISTRY If anyone would like a copy of the service to share with someone that couldn't make it to church and play on their own computer we now have several USB drives they can borrow. If you do not have a computer we have MP3 Players to borrow as well. Or If you have your own USB Drive just bring it in and someone will copy the service onto your drive for you. This is a good alternative to keep in spirit with the other believers of St. Paul when our busy schedules or sickness keep us from attending church. Also just the sermons are available to listen to online at the St. Paul website under the St Paul Lutheran Church- Sermons tabs. LWML NEWS Our June 17th LWML meeting was held between church services. Linda Jordan talked about praising God for moving people, for partners, and for making a way so they could do their work in Angola. We had a short meeting to decide to change our monthly meetings to the 1st Sunday of every month between services, instead of every third Tuesday. Our service projects for June were: Pray for all World leaders, Pray for all fathers, Pray for the LWML convention and save stamps for missions. Our next meeting will be Sunday July 1st.
The St. Paul Messenger Page 6 COMMUNION SHUT-IN SERVICE Thursday, July 19th at 2:00 p.m. This is a worshipful communion service in the sanctuary as well as fellowship with other members of St. Paul. We will be bringing the communion elements to the pews where you will be sitting (in every other row). After a brief communion worship service you will have an opportunity to enjoy a snack in the fellowship area. Everyone is welcome to come. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL8 If God gave us the same amount of time and attention that we devote to him? If God put as many things ahead of us as we put ahead of him? If God offered as many excuses as we do and if the excuses were not more justifiable than ours? If God s promises were not more certain than ours? If God withheld his blessings from us as we withhold our offerings to him? ONE One sing can spark a moment, One flower can wake the dream. One tree can start a forest, One bird can herald spring. One smile begins a friendship, One handclasp lifts a soul. One star can guide a ship at sea, One word can frame the goal. One vote can change a nation, One sunbeam lights a room. One candle wipes out darkness, One laugh will conquer gloom. One step must start each journey, One word must start each prayer. One hope will raise our spirits, One touch can show you care. One voice can speak with wisdom, One heart can know what s true. One life can make the difference, You see it s up to YOU!!! GET SCRIP TODAY! SCRIP cards are sold between services on Sundays. You can also place orders by filling out an order form found by the bulletin board near the offices or by the fellowship sink. Orders can be placed in the boxes provided along with your check made payable to St. Paul Scrip, or brought to the church office. Orders will be placed around the 1st & 15th of each month and take about 4 days to receive them. Some cards are kept in stock and can be purchased Monday, Thursday & Friday 8:00 a.m.-noon in the church office during the summer. Thank you to everyone who has taken time to purchase SCRIP cards for your everyday purchases such as: prescriptions, gas & groceries. For families enrolled in school July will be the last month to have % come off education fees for the school year. Starting in August you can start saving on education fees for the school year. If you have any questions about SCRIP please ask Betty Klotzbuecher or Lori Hass.
