The purpose of the committee is to recommend a long range plan to be approved and adopted by St. Paul Lutheran Church and School. The members of the committee are Pastor Nate Reichle, Principal Brian Elmhorst, Congregation s Vice Chairman Mike Frazier, Former School Board Member Dan Tellock, Former Trustee Jerry Kusserow, Grandmother Betty Klotzbuecher, Grandfather Dale Ferg, Mother of Grown Children Lori Hass, Father of Young Child Joe Niemuth, Mother of Young Child Britney Riesenberg, and Mother of Young Child Jessica Drath. The committee s first meeting took place on November 25 th. The next meeting is scheduled for January 13 th. The committee is presently working individually and together to answer the questions: What is the point of St. Paul, Manawa? Here are the answers suggested to date: To lead people to know and know fully Christ as their Savior To glorify God To teach the Word of God To help people of all ages grow in their faith To be a loving and caring environment for children to grow in Christ To show the love of Jesus to everyone To spread the Gospel to as many others as possible To stand out in ways that draw people to repentance and faith To be a city on a hill To be involved in community to introduce others to Christ To offer a school where families get a Christian education To be committed to our community, becoming appropriately involved To be known by the Galatians 5:22 Fruits of the Spirit To involve young people, especially teens, in church It is the committee s first task to identify a single answer to this important question. If you have an answer to the question, what is the point of St. Paul, Manawa? that is not on this list, please tell a member of the Long Range Plan Committee. If you do not understand one of these answers, please speak with a member of the Long Range Plan Committee. We look forward to reporting the committee s answer to this question and then later what kind of plan we are suggesting to achieve that goal.

2 The St. Paul Messenger Page 2 COMMUNION SHUT-IN SERVICE Shut-In Worship Service will be Thursday, January 17th at 2:00 p.m. This is a worshipful communion service in the sanctuary as well as fellowship with other members of St. Paul. We will be bringing the communion elements to the pews where you will be sitting (in every other row). After a brief communion worship service with Pastor Reichle you will have an opportunity to enjoy a snack in the fellowship area compliments of the Ladies Aid. All are welcome to come. GOOD OLD FASHIONED BIBLE STUDY Beginning on Sunday, January 6th at 9:30 am in the parlor at the back of the church, Pastor Reichle will lead a study of the Gospel according to Mark. All are welcome and encouraged to attend! MEN S CLUB MEETING Sunday, January 13th the Men s Club will meet between worship services in the Conference Room next to the church office. CHILI LUNCHEON St. Paul Men s Club Chili Luncheon Sunday, February 10th 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Free will donation to the Steigers & Fradrichs, who lost their homes to fires. MOVE THE FENCE In Europe during World War II, two soldiers attempted to provide a decent burial for their buddy. At a nearby village, they found a cemetery next to a church. When the friends asked for permission to bury their friend there, the pastor said that wasn t possible because the soldier belonged to another denomination. Sensing their disappointment, the pastor agreed to bury the soldier in a grassy area beyond the cemetery. It s just outside the fence, he said. The two friends accepted the offer and vowed to return. A few weeks later, when they came back to the village, they couldn t locate the new grave. The pastor quickly calmed them down. Everything s all right, he said. After we buried your friend, I kept thinking about him. So I came out here, and I moved the fence. Denominational divisions often keep us from interacting with other Christians. The next time you have the opportunity to fellowship with someone who s different from you, remember this story. Take a bold step and move the fence. 3 The St. Paul Messenger Page 3 SCHOOL NEWS School Christmas Programs On December 13over 335 people gathered for the annual Preschool and Kindergarten Christmas Program. The students and teachers did a wonderful job presenting the Christmas story through readings and songs. The evening concluded with a Happy Birthday Jesus Party and fellowship. Pictured below are some of the preschool and kindergarten students. A special thanks to Mrs. Griesbach, Mrs. Hintz, and all the volunteers for their time and effort. The 1-8 th grade program on December 19 was a great success. There were over 425 people in the audience for the event and every student was again a part of this year s program. A huge thanks to Mrs. Elmhorst, Mrs. Suehs, Ms. Jenks, Mrs. Beyer and Mr. Korotka for all of their work preparing and presenting the Christmas message. An important thank you also goes to the students for sharing the Christmas message with all in attendance. Accelerated Reading Accelerated Reading is an individualized reading program for students at St. Paul. This program challenges students to read individual novels at school and at home. Points are awarded for each book and prizes are as goals are reached. All prizes are donated from local businesses. During the school year so far, over 2,200 books were read with a 86% success rate. Also, a total of 10,954,306 words have been read for this program.

4 The St. Paul Messenger Page 4 ST. PAUL CANCER SUPPORT GROUP About CANCER SUPPORT GROUP: Our group is cancer survivors who are support persons of other cancer patients. We share our experience of our journey (good and bad). Expressing the importance of God in our life and the power of prayer. Sharing is helping one another heal by looking for ways to help others through books, talking and websites, with God s help on this path in our life. Cancer Group will meet twice a month on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. in the Conference Room next to the church office. Please join us as we share our concerns and experiences, support and comfort all who struggle to overcome the effects cancer has had on their lives, pray for all who in some way are touched by this disease Meetings: January 12 & 26 February 9 & 23 March 9 & 23 April 13 & 27 May 4 & 18 June 8 & 22 July 13 & 27 August 10 & 24 September 14 & 28 October 12 & 26 November 9 & 23 December 14 & 28
