THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM P: Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God s command and combined with God s Word. C: For Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. P: The benefits of Holy Baptism are that it works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare. C: These words and promises are spoken by Christ our Lord in the last chapter of Mark: Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. P: Now, water itself does not do such great things but the word of God in and with the water does these things, along with the faith which trusts this word of God in the water. For without God s word the water is plain water and no Baptism. But with the word of God it is a

2 Baptism, that is, a life-giving water, rich in grace, and washing of the new birth in the Holy Spirit. C: This is as St. Paul writes in Titus, chapter three: He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. P: Finally, Holy Baptism indicates that the Old Adam in us should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires, and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever. C: This is written by St. Paul in Romans chapter six: We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 3 THE OLD TESTAMENT READING Exodus 24:4b-18 4b He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stone pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 Then he sent young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD. 6 Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he splashed against the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They responded, We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey. 8 Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words. 9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank. 12 The LORD said to Moses, Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction. 13 Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. 14 He said to the elders, Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them. 15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud. 17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. THE EPISTLE READING 2 Peter 1: For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. 19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet s own interpretation of things. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (8:15) SCHOOL CHILDREN K-8TH GRADE This is My Father s World THE HOLY GOSPEL Luke 9: About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31 They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. 32 Peter and his companions were very sleepy, but when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. 33 As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. (He did not know what he was saying.) 34 While he

4 was speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him. 36 When the voice had spoken, they found that Jesus was alone. Moses asks Pharaoh to "let my people go" 7 times and when Pharaoh finally does, the salvation God worked was so amazing that it became the Gospel event of the Old Testament! It becomes the beautiful picture that gets us ready for the Gospel of the New Testament! CANCER SUPPORT GROUP AT ST. PAUL A group for victims, survivors, families, caregivers and others to talk, listen, and support one another will meet again on Saturday, March 9th & March 23rd at 9:00 a.m. in the Conference Room next to the church office. Please join the group to support and comfort all who struggle to overcome the effects of cancer and pray for all who are touched by this disease.

6 CAMP LUTHER COMING TO VISIT WORSHIP! Executive Director Gary "Woody" Vought will be here March 17th to inform us about Camp Luther's ministry, especially the Filled with the Spirit campaign to build a new dining hall and fund their ministries. He will make announcements during worship and give a more detailed report during the education hour. Also, he will bring Every Kid to Camp awards for some of our children. Finally, a door offering for the Filled with the Spirit campaign will be collected. STOP THE BLEED CLASSES for anyone and everyone in the church and school will be held on March 31st and April 7th in the lunch room in between services, from 9:30-10:30. Sign-up sheet is on the table in the back of church. These classes will teach everyone how to pack a wound or apply a tourniquet during a traumatic situation. We have 'stop the bleed' kits that will be put with each AED so if there is ever a situation that they are needed they are available. But we can't put them in until we conduct the classes. KWIK TRIP DISCONTINUED MILK MOOLA PROGRAM - Please bring in all your Kwik Trip milk caps, bag tops, and Glazers price ovals by March 25th so we can send in what we have collected. This program will be discontinued the end of March.
