2 From the Desk of Fr. Chris I always look forward to the Gospel for the Second Sunday of Advent! This is when the Baptizer bursts on the scene, and he never makes a quiet entrance. He s a wild man with wild clothes and a strange diet. He is A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. John wore clothing made of camel s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. I m not sure I would want to be John s friend. He scares me. I wouldn t want to meet him in a dark alley and would cross the street if he was walking my way. But he is also so attractive. I want to be more like him! He knows who he is (he is not the Messiah). He s certain of his task (Repent, for the Kingdom of God is a hand). And he ll stand up to any that would keep him from it (You brood of Vipers). Most of all, I love his title of Herald of the Messiah. He is the one who announces his presence and prepares others to receive him. In that way we are just like John. At our baptism, we too received the title of Herald of the Messiah. Fr. Chris Candy Cane Handout This weekend, Liturgical Life ministry will be handing out candy canes after masses to commemorate St. Nicholas' Feast Day which is December 6. St. Nicholas was a bishop who championed the poor and weak, healed sick children, and was known for his giftgiving. Why not do something special anonymously for someone on Tuesday? Leave cocoa or cookies, a Christmas cactus, candy, or book on a neighbor's or relative's porch. YOU are Kris Kringle. Tanque Verde Loop Presented by Outreach Ministry & Dominga s Dignity Bag Project This beautifully filmed documentary explores the miraculous origins of the Virgin Mary on a peasant s tilma (cloak), which is displayed today in Mexico City s Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Coffee and snacks will be provided. New Ministry Coming to Corpus Christi No name yet, Just a focus! Consider joining us! Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe! Coming December 10 and 11, Corpus Christi will hold our annual Christmas Shoppe offering unique gifts to buy just in time for Christmas. We are inviting only Santa's Elves from Corpus Christi to sell your goods after all three masses. Because we are sharing the Community Center with all who partake of our Knights' Family Breakfast on Sunday, there will be limited space, so each seller will have one of our rectangular tables to display your items. Cost is only $10 for your space, which will go toward the Corpus Christi Award given to a graduating senior in the spring. You will collect your own money for your sales. Sign up and pay your space fee in the office by Nov. 28. If there are more sellers than spaces, we will take sellers in order of when you paid. Questions? Contact Linda at wbc@prodigy.net. From the parish survey, the Parish Pastoral Council evaluated the demographics of our active parishioners and the needs expressed by each category of those groups. As a result, we have set priorities for action which you will be hearing about over the next several months. One demographic that became obvious is that a large number of parishioners are at retirement, dealing with issues of aging, or are families who are in caregiver positions for older family members. Wellness, estate planning, resources, recreation, housing, nutrition, exercise, change of day-to-day routines, adapting homes for safety, use of computers and other current technology, and varying other topics are of interest to many in our community. Everyone is busy now thinking of the holidays, so watch the bulletin in early January for more information on a new ministry to address this need. We will need YOU - interested, creative parishioners with ideas to develop a valuable treasure trove of information, speakers, and support!
