2 From the Desk of Fr. Chris We are winding down the cycle of readings from Mark s Gospel, and I ll be sorry to see him go. Mark is direct and to the point, terse in his writing style (like the Hemingway of Gospel writers). It s also a most challenging Gospel because it holds up unexpected models of faith and action for would be disciples of Jesus. It s not the ones who already think or claim they re religious. It s not his friends. It s always the people who are unlikable, unworthy, or on the fringe. We ve had the children, who have no rights but have a claim on the Kingdom, the outsiders - the Gerasene demoniac, the woman with the hemorrhage, and blind Bartimaeus, and today the poor widow with her two small coins. These are the worthy examples of the life Jesus is talking about, for whom the Kingdom is prepared. Before we let go of Mark s Gospel for the year, a valuable question to ask might be: Who is the unexpected person in my life who is teaching me to be a better disciple of Jesus? Fr. Please SAVE THE DATE for this year s training in the Community Center Hall. Tuesday, Dec. 4, :30-7:30pm Corpus Christi s diocesan approved Safe Environment Plan stipulates that only volunteers who have completed this annual training are allowed to participate in ministry. 3 HAND CARVED in BETHLEHEM Please stop by the tables of religious wares (Nativity sets, rosaries, statues, crucifixes, charms, etc.) after all the masses the weekend of Nov. 17 & 18. Ayman Khair represents about 180 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand carved religious articles to tourists of the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in the Middle East, the tourism has been cut off. In order to survive, they have turned to Christian communities in the United States to purchase their articles. These hand carved religious articles are beyond description. Carved from wood of the sacred olive tree, this workmanship has been traditional for these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair that these families have a little income and are able to stay living in the Holy Land. Amazingly enough, the Christian population dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the last 30 years. Thank you in advance for your support. The sign-up sheet for appointments is in the community center. Appointments can also be made on line at Give the gift of life this holiday season. Special Notice: We are grateful for all the donations of gently used items brought in daily for those who are in need. The spirit of giving is thriving at Corpus Christi! Outreach Ministry will be taking a brief pause from accepting donations of clothing and household items during November and December in order to provide space for our Thanksgiving and Christmas drives. Every Tuesday, two or three different members of Corpus Christi come together to prepare soup at Casa Maria Soup Kitchen. Two to three hundred cups of soup are served each day of the week by volunteers. Corpus Christi has been making soup every Tuesday for over 4 years! We hope to continue but NEED A FEW VOLUNTEERS -No Skills required. No recipes followed. We use whatever donations they have on hand. Two to three volunteers work together starting at 6:45am and are usually done by 10am. A few of us even carpool. Monthly rotation: We have a handful of people who rotate making soup so you would not be scheduled every week. For more information or if you are interested, please call: Conrad Wall at The Knights of Columbus, Mother Teresa Council (CCCC Council), has launched our Coats for Kids Initiative. This initiative is possible because of Jim Click s Millions for Tucson Program, which enables the Knights to sell raffle tickets for a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, courtesy of Jim Click Chrysler Jeep. Those who purchase a raffle ticket from the Knights will benefit in two ways: their $25.00 contribution will help us purchase a winter coat for a child who might otherwise go without and they hold a ticket for a chance to own a beautiful new car! Tickets for the Coats for Kids Raffle are available in the Community Center on Sundays. Interested persons can also contact a Knight directly. The raffle ends December 2, The drawing takes place on December 13, Since the Coats for Kids program launched in 2009, half a million coats have been distributed by the Knights of Columbus in North America.
