2 From the Desk of Fr. Chris Our Elect are entering the homestretch as we help them prepare for the Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation! Over the next three weeks they, and we, will undergo the Scrutinies, rites of self-reflection to heal what is sinful and strengthen what is good, deepening our relationship with Jesus. We see a relationship develop between Jesus and the Woman at the Well today, and also a model of Christian prayer for all of us, if we see prayer as the avenue by which we build our relationship with God. Every deep relationship, with God or with anyone, requires trust and movement from surface stuff to the depths of the heart. If all we do is exchange pleasantries with someone and talk about the weather, no deep relationship is ever going to develop. In Jesus and the Woman we see a movement from the trivial to the significant. Playful banter. Trust is established. Calling to task. Questions. Answers. Confusion. Enlightenment. All leading up to revelation. She comes to know Jesus as more than just some guy who is thirsty. She knows him as the Christ. Jesus still thirsts. 4 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal Update Thank you to all who have responded to this year s Annual Catholic Appeal. If you have not yet responded, please return your pledge cards/ envelopes. It is our hope this year that all our parish families will participate by completing an envelope. # Total Registered Households: 1272 Parish Goals Results as of 3/20/19 # of Participants: % Participation: 32% 23% $ Raised: $61,000 $77,334 Lenten Practices, Week 3 Fasting and Abstinence 1. Consider the ways food is wasted or consumed carelessly. This week, make an effort to eat only until you feel satisfied rather than full. 2. Offer up a bit of time normally used to watch television and use it to pray for or provide assistance to someone who is suffering or in need of healing. 3. Abstain from hurtful words. Pause before responding to someone out of anger or resentment. Substitute words of healing and consideration. 4. Fast from watching television or going online one day this week. Offer up that time to something that feeds your soul, such as going for a walk, reading a book, or listening to soothing music. 5. Take time from something you usually do for yourself to write a note or make a phone call to a friend, relative, or acquaintance who needs your time and attention. 6. Pick one or two days this week to refrain from eating one of your favorite foods. Don t tell anyone what you are doing so that it becomes a private practice. Please help us get ready for Palm Sunday by trimming your date palm trees (the ones with leaves like feathers, not fans) and bring them to Corpus Christi on April 7. Thank you! Dominga s Dignity Bag Project An Invitation to Provide Hope! Please join the Outreach Ministry for the monthly sewing of Dominga s Dignity Bags on Thursday, March 28, 9:00am in the Community Center. All bags will be donated to El Comedor, San Juan Bosco Deportation Shelters, and Nazareth House Women s Shelter in Nogales, Sonora. You do not need to sew to participate. Bring a sewing machine if you have one. Donations of sewing supplies are appreciated.
