2 Note from the Pastor : Lifestyle Choices I want to thank so many of you who have prayed for Karen and me over the past week in regards to the news we received. As I write this, her lung biopsy has not been done, but by the time you read this week s newsletter, the tests should be complete and we will know if cancer has spread to her lungs. In these days, we have received a deep peace from the Lord, largely due to your prayers and other dear friends all over the country. For this we are truly grateful. As I have reflected over the last few days, it seems that the theme of life s mortality continues to hit me. This reflection began back in 008 when Karen and I took in both of our mothers to care for them in their hospice state. Both of us saw up close how fleeting life is and that it is important to arrange your priorities around a lifestyle that enables you to live with freedom and simplicity, not burdened by the abundance of excessive possessions and the obsession for financial gain with its promise for worldly security. With this in mind, I will begin a series of sermons over the next few weeks on the subject of frugiveity what? You ve never heard of this word? Be encouraged, it s not in the dictionary! I coined it, combining the terms frugality and GIVE! It s about choosing a lifestyle that follows the simplicity of Jesus and the Scriptures teaching to give with grace and generosity. I believe all of us will be inspired and challenged to look at giving from a different perspective. In that light, I look forward to seeing you this Sunday in worship. Thank you again for your prayers, Curt McDaniel THANK YOU Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for the many expressions of love and concern you ve shown us over the last several months as Judy recovered from foot surgery and Kim from melanoma surgery. We have been truly blessed by your prayers, cards, encouragement, visits, meals and just being there for us. We are so very fortunate to be a part of this church and the wonderful family of God! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! Love in Christ, Kim & Judy Seals WELCOME TO OUR SUMMER YOUTH INTERNS! Alex Erickson was born in Lexington, SC in 1995 and raised with two amazing parents and 3 siblings in a home that put Christ first. She grew up with a lot of animals and has always loved being outside. Drawing and painting are some of her favorite things and she hopes to be an art teacher in the future! Throughout her teenage years she was very lost, however, last February accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and loves nothing more than watching God supernaturally work in herself and others. Alex is so excited to be a part of the ReFormed Student Ministry! Ryan Morvay was blessed to grow up in a Christian household and accepted Christ at a very young age. He grew up in Chapin and went to Chapin Elem., Middle & High School. Ryan started attending youth group at Chapin Presbyterian Church in 6 th grade and continued to be a part of it until he graduated high school. Early on in middle school, he started to play the guitar and fell in love with playing music and worshiping our God and Savior. He played in the youth group band at CPC throughout high school and also helped lead worship for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for a couple of years at CHS. He stayed connected with CPC and the youth group after starting college and by the grace of God, was asked to help out last fall with the youth worship team. He felt a strong call from God to help with the youth group and get more involved with our church and is so thankful and blessed that it all worked out the way it did. Ryan is currently attending the Univ. of South Carolina, and studying Computer Information Systems. He can t wait to see and experience all that God has in store for our church and student ministry. Ryan knows God has a perfect plan for it all and is so excited to be able to work with the church and continue to grow in his walk with God. NEW TOPIC: Evangelism Training Transforming Grace Sunday School Class Do you struggle with feeling like you should be sharing Jesus with your non-christian co-workers, friends and neighbors, but you don t know what to say or how to say it? Or maybe you feel like you don t even have the motivation or courage to even try to start that conversation. Does this leave you burdened by a cloud of guilt and shame? If so, be encouraged that you are not alone. Even as one of your pastors I often struggle with these very same things. That is why if you are one of these people, please contact Trevor Allen, Youth Director at Trevora@chapinpres.com. The best way to get connected in the Body of Christ is not to wait for magical best friends to float in from the ceiling, but to serve the church alongside fellow brothers and sisters in Christ! Grow in relationship with Christ, each other, and the community by serving with our Student Ministry Team. Soli Deo Gloria. (trevora@chapinpres.com) ALL IN THE FAMILY If you missed the "family dinner" Sunday night, you missed a most wonderful time and some even more wonderful food! We offer great thanks to all who made it happen; from those in the kitchen who cooked, to the set-up/clean-up workers, and to all who brought those delicious dishes, etc, etc, etc! It was a grand occasion. Do put it on your calendar the next time one is planned, for there will be a next time! Another large thanks goes to Stephanie Wilkes, Cindy Knowles and Nancy Hanna for all the dirty work they have done in planting the beautiful flowers around the sign and in the area around the canopy! Those pretty little flowers are a joy to see and their labor of love is a blessing to us all! The Moveable Feast is taking a summer break! But, if you have a "hankering" to go to lunch after church, do come by the Reception Desk and we'll see who else might be in the same frame of mind! There are lots of ministry opportunities available for you this summer! If you would like to work in any way with the CARE ministry, you can use your God-given talents of a cheerful smile and a warm "Hello" to greet visitors (and members) from the parking lot to the front door to the Reception Desk. You can visit our Homebound friends and/or send notes or cards. The Children's Ministry would warmly welcome you at VBS or working in the Nursery on Sunday mornings. Then, the Youth Ministry would welcome your offer of assistance, too! People go away in the summer and extra help is always needed in every area. Or you just might want to come and talk about a ministry idea that you have, and that's good, too! See what the Lord would have you do, and He does have something for each of you! A technology device was found this past Sunday at the church. If you are missing something, please contact the church office with a description. Praying the Lord's best blessings for each of you. See you Sunday! Love, Helen Page 4, June Issue

5 NEW TREASURE SEEKERZ VERSE: The Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our King; He will save us. Isaiah 33: This is our TREASURE SEEKERZ verse as we study through the book of Judges in the Old Testament. We will recite it during the 10:30 AM worship service on June 6, so start memorizing it now! This week, our Sunday School lesson will focus on Judges 4-5, an interesting story about Deborah, Barak, and a tent peg. Almost time for Ridge Haven! We will meet at the church Monday morning, June 6 at 10:00 AM. Please pray for the 34 children and youth who will spend the week in the mountains of Brevard growing closer to Jesus. Fun Tuesday mornings this summer! While the moms are in the Armor of God study, the children will learn how to put on His armor too! Sign up NOW and let us know if your kids will be coming! VBS craft needs!!! Please send in any old cds, keys, washers, screws, etc. that you may have lying around and are ready to get rid of, and any tiny artificial flowers. There is a box for these under the VBS table. Thanks! I love you! Hope to see you Sunday!
