2 WHAT S HAPPENING Congregational Meeting on January 28th, 2018 immediately after worship for the purpose of electing new officers and for receiving the budget for 2018 The next 3rd MEAL will be on Monday, February 19th at 5:30PM Members annual per capita fee of $38.75 is now due. This goes towards Presbytery missions and governance. Choir rehearsal every Thursday at 7:30PM O Lord Hear Our Prayers For Mike s aunt and the people of Montecito, California who are experiencing mudslides and flooding For Linda and Mike Hess who are experiencing health problems Sara has breast cancer and had 2 surgeries. Thankfully, her lymph nodes are negative-- she will need radiation, but no chemo. God has been with her For the Adair family. Mr Adair had a stroke and died Laura fell and hurt her shoulder in addition to her ankle. She will be laid out for 8 weeks prayers for healing and patience for the whole family Cristina and Carlos are auditioning for grad schools. Prayers for playing well Cristina took the TOEFL exam and it was very hard. Prayers for a good score so that she can go to grad school JoAnne s roommate moved out unexpectedly leaving her alone to take care of Harry. Prayers that she can quickly find a new roommate who can help with Harry s care. Our Grateful Blessings Elizabeth will be retiring on February 16th Jay got back to California safely Mike s aunt s retirement home was affected by the mudslides, but she is OK A Message from Pastor Kate Dear Congregation, thank you for the adorable kitty Christmas Card and the lovely monetary gift inside. With your generosity I will be going to the Art Museum, taking a quilt class, and tracking my bike mileage. Thank you for supporting me body and soul! Love to all, Pastor Kate

3 Importance of Per Capita Funding Why is per capita important? Per capita brings Presbyterians together literally! Presbyterians are connected in many ways, including our church government. We believe we discern best what God is calling us to do when we gather as mid councils, seek[ing] together to find and represent the will of Christ (Book of Order F ). Per capita dollars pay for the costs of holding a General Assembly including paying for the travel, room and board of commissioners and advisory delegates, several of whom would not be able to afford these expenses on their own. Per capita makes it possible for Presbyterians to govern ourselves the way we do. Presbyterians have a form of government built upon shared power and mutual accountability as we seek together to find and represent the will of Christ. By providing the primary means through which commissioners and advisory delegates can gather to do their work, per capita dollars help to undergird our governance system. Our Constitution provides a moral and theological compass that builds community and calls us to Christian faithfulness in gratitude to God. Per capita makes possible our effort for visible unity of the church of Jesus Christ. The PC(USA), as with other faith traditions and denominations, is but a small part of the one church of Jesus Christ. We affirm that God s call is for the church to be one. Per capita makes it possible for us to maintain our historical awareness. Our historical heritage helps us make informed decisions for the future. The Presbyterian Historical Society is our national archives and historical research center. It collects, preserves, and shares the history of the American Presbyterian and Reformed tradition. Members 2018 per capita fee of $38.75 is now due. Please mark your check or envelope with Per Capita and place it in the offering plate or mail it in with your monthly pledge.

4 Volunteer Opportunity Just in Time for Lent ITS GARDEN TIME...YES, yes, yes I know it is freezing outside. However this is the time to plan our discussion about the 2018 Chestnut Ridge Donation Garden. Do you like to garden? Do you want to learn about how to garden in raised beds, how to grow herbs and vegetables, how to set up a butterfly garden, how to container garden and how to attract pollinators to your gardens? Then join us. There is something for all levels of experience and ability. For those that are new this garden is in its 6th year and has donated approximately 1000 pounds of produce yearly to seniors and local poor. So, if you want to get some gentle exercise and garden, learn more or just be in the know and find out what is going on then come on out for the first meeting of the year. It is a meet and greet and discussion. We will decide what we want to put in the garden, discuss what we can do better and make a plan on when we will meet. First meeting will be Saturday January 20, 4:00 PM Location of the meeting will be at the Glassboro Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. 300 University Blvd. The entrance is on the Yale Rd side under the steps. Help shape Glassboro s Arts & Entertainment District! The Borough of Glassboro, NJ and Rowan University's Department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability are hosting a Community Listening and Visioning Meeting to gather comments and ideas for a future Glassboro Arts & Entertainment District. Your attendance is encouraged to this facilitated meeting held on Tuesday, January 30th from 6:15-8: 00 PM at Boro Hall (in the Courtroom). 5 Christmas Eve Service Celebrating Our 150th Year in Glassboro On October 14, 1867, The Presbytery of West Jersey organized the Presbyterian Church in Glassboro, NJ. On Sunday, November 19th 2017, a special Anniversary Celebration with music and worship was held to commemorate this event.
