2 FR. JERRY S CORNER frjerry@skdchurch.org On the weekend of August 6 & 7 we will have the kickoff to the 2016 Seminarian Collection. With larger numbers of candidates in recent years comes a significant increase in costs. Seminarians are responsible for their costs while in the first two years of formation. The Diocese pays for their costs for the final six years of school (pre-theology/ philosophy and theology). This coming school year, the Diocese of Green Bay expects to spend nearly $1,000,000 for tuition, room and board, health insurance, summer language, spiritual and pastoral programs, a small stipend, support of the Vocation Office and all of its outreach efforts, and other related costs. More information to come as the 2016 Seminarian Collection draws near. I would like to take this opportunity to update you about the sale of St. Aloysius and the renovation of the social hall at St. Mary s. At the end of July contractors will be working on making 10 classrooms in the social hall of St. Mary for grades 1-5. St. Aloysius has not yet been sold. We are working on timing the end of the construction in the social hall at St. Mary with the sale of St. Aloysius. It is like moving into a new home. You need to wait until construction is complete before you can move in or you will need to store things at another location and move it more than once. Thank you to all who helped with moving bingo into the cafeteria. Middle school and high school faith formation will take place in the gymnasium. Remember, starting September 11, there will be a 5:00 PM Sunday mass at St. Mary. High school students are invited to mass and following mass will be invited into the gymnasium for faith formation. If you did not receive a copy of the book entitled, Rediscover Jesus: An Invitation by Matthew Kelly we will have extra copies at the entrances of churches for you to take. In Chapter 27 we are reminded to deny yourself. This is the starting point for us to take up our cross and follow Jesus as his disciples. In what area of your life do you exhibit the most selfcontrol? In what area of your life do you exhibit the least selfcontrol? Jesus, give me the grace and the strength to say no to myself. As we continue our journey through Year II of Disciples on the Way we will continue to focus on Formation in Prayer and Holiness and recognize God s invitation to be holy, to come, to meet Jesus, to know Jesus and to grow in faith. We will continue to have a holy hour the First Friday of each month from 6:00 PM 7:00 PM at St. Mary church. Our next holy hour will take place on Friday, August 5. The first weekend of the month there will be an insert with prayers that you can say individually or as a family every day for that particular week. You can pick out a word or phrase from that prayer each day and reflect upon it. Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom with Jeff Cavins & Sarah Christmyer. Next Session August 11 Acts Paul s First Missionary Journey : 1:00 PM or 6:30 PM at the Parish Center, St. Mary site. Check our website for further information. Weekend of July 23-24, 24, 2016 Sharing... $ 6, Loose... $ Maintenance... $ St. Ignatius Subsidy... $ Thank you to the Dorothy Lamers family for the memorial given to St. Katharine Drexel Parish in memory of Bill Lamers for the new St. Francis sign. Please keep in your prayers the family of Kelly Powers and Don Biselx. As we pray for their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, may they rest in peace. 3 Pilgrimage iturgy A pilgrimage is a spiritual & journey of people looking for a inistry deeper reality. Anyone who has from Donna made a pilgrimage to the Holy dvandenheuvel@skdchurch.org Land will agree that it is a life- Saturday 30 changing experience. The Meccan pilgrimage, the haj, is a requirement of the Muslim faith. What makes a pilgrimage different than a tour is the intention of the trip. This year World Youth Day will be held in Krakow, Poland. More than 30,000 youth and young adults from the USA travel to join young people from around the world for a week of pilgrimages, catechesis, prayer, devotions, and liturgies culminating in World Youth Day on July 31 st. Hopefully they will meet Christ along the way Mass Intention Book Mass intentions and Bread & Wine donations for year 2017 are being taken. The cost for each Mass intention is $10.00 per Mass and $15.00 for Bread & Wine Donation for a week. When scheduling your Mass intentions for 2017 calendar year, you can select four Masses. When selecting Masses, you are allowed only three weekend Masses for the year. (Holidays and Holy Days are considered Weekend Masses.) The remaining Masses can be weekday Masses. To give all parishioners an opportunity to have a special Holiday Mass or Holy Day, you may not have a Holiday or Holy Day Mass two years in a row. St. Katharine Drexel Parish Holy Hour for the month of August will be Friday, August 5th from 6:00 7:00 PM at St. Mary church. For seventeen years I have been in charge of the Kids Games for the Parish Fest. I have decided to step down from being the Kids Games Chair person. It has been a great pleasure over the year's meeting new people in the Parish. Thank you to all who helped over the years. (Thank you Lisa for your service to the Parish) Seminarian Collection 2016 Our Seminarians need your help. This diocese has an excellent history of bringing forth vocations from our parishes. Our discipleship efforts are working! Now our seminarians need your generosity to following the call. Please be generous with our Annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today. An inspiring letter will arrive in your mailbox this week. Your donation provides tuition, room and board, insurance, a small stipend for our seminarians and will support the Vocation Office s efforts to call forth more candidates. The total annual cost is around $1,000,000. Next weekend is the kick off of this annual collection. Each year, we hope people will be even more generous than the previous. To make your gift today, visit ww.catholicfoundationgb.org/give. On the weekend of August 20th & 21st, Nate Runde, will speak at our Masses so we can hear about his calling and how we can help. Nate is studying at St. John Vianney Seminary, and a member of St. John Nepomucene arish in Little Chute. Sunday, August 28th of this year will be my last night of working and being in charge of Bingo Concessions after three years. Thank you to all who have helped me with the concessions. 5 Catholic Formation skdcatholicformation.weebly.com St. Katharine Drexel-Kaukauna In Search of Catechists for the Catholic Formation Year. We are each called uniquely by God. We are called to holiness, to service, to become a living response to God s love. We will each do that in different ways, but each and every way is a call from God. Every person has a vocation. The question is not is God calling? or if God is calling; but how is God calling me? We are looking for catechists for the upcoming Catholic Formation year for grades 1-8. If you are feeling the call to become a catechist, please call Sue or Elizabeth for more information. School Supply Drive for St. Ignatius and Kaukauna Head Start. The new school year is just around the corner and we need your assistance to supply all the items that will help St. Ignatius & Head Start Students to be successful during the school year. A school supply drive will be held from July 30th to August 21 st collecting the supplies needed for the teachers and students of both sites. The supplies range from loose leaf paper and pens to napkins and facial wipes. A full list of suggested supplies will be located near the collection bins. Let's make this a successful drive for the 2016/2017 students. Kaukauna Social Concerns Ministry Thank you St. Katharine Drexel Parish for your GENEROSITY to Loaves and Fishes. Total brown bag collection from July 23-24, Masses were 69 bags. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with getting the bags from the two sites to Loaves and Fishes. St. Ignatius Catholic School Larry Konetzke, Headmaster St. Ignatius Catholic School will be practicing Virtue-Based Restorative Discipline as one component of our discipline model. Virtue is a holy habit that imitates God and leads us to heaven. Jesus teaches us to love one another. Out of love, we work to make things as right as possible when there is harmful behavior. Restorative discipline makes our discipline policy stronger so children have a way to return to goodness when they fail. The goal is to restore the God-given dignity to all who have been affected by the hurtful behavior and to restore the relationship between those involved. VBRD helps students take responsibility and be accountable for their choices and understand how their behavior affects others. Checklist For Repairing Harm 1. Pray together for God s help in fixing the problem 2. What virtue do we want to use in this situation? 3. Can we commit to being positive in fixing this? 4. Who was harmed? 5. What needs to happen to make things right? 6. All agree to a solution (written down if necessary) 7. Prayer to close 8. Check back later For more information: Register Now for the School Year!
