2 On Thursday, October 11, 2012 we will begin the Year of Faith, which marks the 50 th Anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and will end on Sunday, November 24, 2013, which marks the feast of Christ the King. I invite our grade school, middle school, high school students to explore our faith through art. They are invited to make a poster based on a religious theme. The theme for October is Respect Life (Creation) and is due by October 27. The theme for November is Joyful Mystery of the Rosary and is due by November 24. Their poster qualifies them for a drawing to win one of ten $5 gift cards from culvers. Informational sheets are available at the entrances of all the churches. May the Year of Faith bring forth Images of Faith. Congratulations to Abby Van Elzen for her poster about Vocations. The month of October is designated as Respect Life Month. I invite you to prayerfully consider participating in the 40 Days for Life campaign at the abortion facility at 3800 N. Gillett St. in Appleton. The Life Vigil continues to Tuesday, November 6. People will be there every day from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Contact Chuck Estermann at for any questions. Envelopes are also available for Bowl For Life. Bowl For Life supports Mother and Unborn Baby Care, which is dedicated to helping mothers and babies in need through material assistance, education and emotional support. Why does the Church teach that all human life is sacred and must be protected? It is because each human person is created in God s image that, without exception, every human life is sacred. And because of this worth, every human life must be protected and respected from conception until natural death, from being aborted or euthanized. In protecting human life, Catholics must first begin with a commitment never to intentionally kill, or collude in the killing, of any innocent human life, no matter how broken, unformed, disabled or desperate that life may seem. (U.S. Catholic Conference: Living the Gospel of Life, 21) Matthew: The King and His Kingdom, is a video study taught by Jeff Cavins a renowned catholic bible teacher. Matthew: The King and His Kingdom shows how Jesus builds on the foundation laid in the Old Testament to inaugurate the kingdom of heaven on earth. Contact Fr. Ministry to Engaged Couples Our culture has become less and less supportive of Marriage. Prayer support is needed to strengthen engaged couples and help them prepare for married life. 3 Psalm Response iturgy Today s Psalm, & No.128 verses 1-6, is also sung inistry every year on the feast of Holy from Donna Family. These verses convey a dvandenheuvel@skdchurch.org message of the blessings of family life. Family life has its challenges, so we understand how blessed are partners who work together and love one another. Like the psalmist, we yearn for God s blessings on our families, relationships and communities. These familial relationships symbolize the faithful love God has for His people. Human relationships may not be perfect, but God s relational love offered to each of us is always perfect and unconditional. St. Katharine Drexel Ladies Society Salad Luncheon St. Katharine Drexel Ladies Society has set Thursday, October 25 for its 32nd Annual Salad Luncheon at the St. Al s site. The Parish Nurses at Peace United Methodist Church and St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Kaukauna are working together to sponsor this retreat. (Growing In Faith Together) Faith Formation for Everyone or -- I AM -- Each New Testament writer presents a unique picture of Jesus reporting differing examples of his teachings, miracles, and life experiences. So many stories! It s like putting together a puzzle to finally see the REAL FACE of Jesus, to better understand who is this Christ we worship and follow. In the October Whole Parish GIFT session, we explored ten such images - Gospel portraits - that give us a glimpse of how Jesus thought of himself: I AM the Bread of Life, I AM the Good Shepherd, I AM the Anointed One,... Knowing about Christ, however, isn t enough! We were challenged to define how that knowledge would inform and transform our lives. We attempted to answer the question: How can we be the hands and heart of Jesus, the Bread of Life, of Jesus the Son of God, of Jesus the Healer, in our world today? What would your answer be? Prayer Shawl Update and News Over the past few months we have seen people come an take prayer shawls for people in need. What a neat way for St. Katharine Drexel Parish to reach out to people in need of prayers and healing. Thank you to our knitters and crocheters for the beautiful shawls that have been donated. The Prayer Shawl Ministry is need of yarn for the shawls. It takes about six skeins to make a shawl. Here is a great way you could be involved in the Prayer Shawl Ministry by donating enough yarn for one or two shawls. Yarn can be dropped off at the parish office or cash donation.
