Call Mary or Connie at if you have questions. Comments From Deacon Bruce CAN WE HELP YOU FIND YOUR FAITH EYES? In our gospel this week, the leper was made clean immediately. He said to Jesus, If you wish, you can make me clean. And Jesus responded, I do will it. Be made clean. And it was immediate. What a gift that man received! Immediate healing. From experience, we know it doesn t always happen like that. As a parish family, we ve watched Cole Vande Hey and Jacob De Groot go from a place of tragedy to a place of smiles and healing. They still have long journeys ahead of them, but look what s happening! God s healing love is alive in Cole and Jacob, in the lives of their families, and in our parish. Their healings, though, weren t immediate. They have been gradual. Then there s the other side when, for reasons beyond our understanding, there s no physical healing. There s lots of suffering. Often, there s loss. Even though we see pain and loss, what lies beneath is often an incredible supernatural, spiritual healing, either in ourselves or in the person we re praying for. We re on our knees, begging. If we believe, even with the faith of a tiny mustard seed, that our God is an awesome God, we know He s got something bigger planned than our little minds can imagine. That s when we must convince ourselves to walk with the eyes of faith, not with the eyes of sight. If we could hold on to that, could train our human minds to believe that beautiful things are happening that we can t possibly understand, then we will allow what s beyond our control to take its course. That s right. Take its course. We can become single-minded, focusing on what God has promised. We will not become double-minded, one minute saying, God, I trust in your plan, and the next, saying, I m worried. I can t do this. Maybe we can become singleminded only when we use our faith eyes. Do you have your pair handy? If not, let us help you find them. Our human sight eyes might not be what we need during the hard times because they re showing us an unclear, fuzzy picture. If that s the case, let s all pray that we can develop the right set of eyes for our journey faith eyes. Deacon Bruce THERE S STILL TIME TO SIGN UP FOR THE FOX VALLEY WARMING SHELTER If you still want to help but weren t able to sign up last week after Mass, please call Jean Beatty at as soon as possible. We ll be starting our schedule soon. The dates of our commitment are February 27 March 3. 5 FEBRUARY 12, TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR B) 5 The Ten Commandments of a Husband and Father (From the Fathers of Mercy ( ~Today is World Marriage Day!~ Husbands and Fathers: Each week, we ll share one of the ten commandments from the Fathers of Mercy. We ll build on them until all 10 are listed. Let us pray for the husbands and fathers of Kaukauna and around the world, that they may become the spiritual leaders of their families, like St. Joseph was to the Holy Family. Commandment Five (This week) Pray with your wife and regularly so. Try to keep a simple, but sincere, spiritual journal and share it with her; even if your entries are just short, inspirational sentences. Trust the Lord to guide, purify and sanctify your relationship with your wife. She is the heart of the home. Reverence her as such. Love her with the same love and affection Christ has for His Church. Remember that your sons will grow up to relate to women much in the same way that they saw you relate to your wife. Similarly, your daughters will learn from their father what to expect from men in a relationship. Share with your wife her burdens, her sorrows and her joys. Commandment Four (Last week) Make sure you know what your children are being taught at school regarding morals and values. All teachers teach in your place as you and your wife are the primary educators of your children. If objectionable subjects or materials are being taught in the classroom, you must stand strong. The primary place for Christian morals and values to be taught and practiced is within the family home your home, which you oversee. This is an awesome responsibility given both to you (as the head of your household) and to your wife (as the heart of your household). St. Augustine calls the family the domestic church. Commandment Three Realize that you are the spiritual leader of your home. It is your primary responsibility to oversee the TV and its influence, the internet and its influence, as well as the books and magazines that enter into your home. Stand firmly against evil influences, asking constantly for God s strength and guidance to lead your family in living a pure, holy and non-violent lifestyle. A father fosters moral virtue within his home first and foremost by example. Get into the habit of blessing your children both alone and with your wife before they go to sleep at night or before they leave the house in the morning. Commandment Two Get your priorities in order: God first, your wife second, your children third, your work fourth, etc. Develop a weekly schedule, blocking out quality time for the Lord, your wife, each child and the family as a whole. A husband s most important time during any given day is the first five minutes when he gets home from work and the love and attention he shows his wife and children at that time. Remember that your human fatherhood is rooted in the Divine Fatherhood of Almighty God. Commandment One Develop an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus, allowing Him to forgive you of your past, to talk to you, to heal you and to guide you. Then, trust the Holy Spirit in all things. Trust Him to provide everything you need, including financial help.
