2 FR. JERRY S CORNER frjerry@skdchurch.org This weekend we celebrate the 2 nd Sunday of Advent. In the 1 st Reading from the prophet Isaiah, we hear what the long awaited Messiah will bring, which Jesus will fulfill if you understand who Jesus is. In the 2 nd Reading from Paul s letter to the Romans, we are reminded of the endurance and encouragement that Jesus gives us, to fill us with hope. In the Gospel from Matthew, we hear from the one who prepares the way for the Messiah, John the Baptist. His message is one of mercy as he baptizes people in the Jordan. What he wears and eats, reminds us of the life of mercy and simplicity that God calls us to live. Next weekend we will be having the 2016 Retirement Collection, Share in the Care. This collection will benefit the women and men religious as well as our senior priests. We are asking for your help in making this year s appeal a success. Last year, through the generosity of many, $214,560 was given to the National Retirement Fund for Religious, $198,356 to our own Diocesan Priests Retirement Fund. In thanksgiving for all that our senior diocesan priests and religious have done. Join with me in supporting this Retirement Collection and in praying for God s continued blessing on our diocesan priests and religious. The following are some things that are being offered this week to help us prepare to celebrate Christmas and when Jesus will come again: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament & Reconciliation: Mon. Dec. 5 (6:00 PM 7:00 PM) St. Mary Church; Reconciliation: Wed. Dec. 7 (6:30 PM) St. Paul in Combined Locks; Giving Tree: (UW Oshkosh Head Start, St. Vincent de Paul, Harbor House, Hats, Mittens & Gloves) UW Oshkosh Head Start works together with children, families, staff and communities to facilitate learning and support growth, empowering all partners in shaping their future. It provides an enriching and supportive atmosphere for all who are involved in the program; Prayer Partner Program: Sending a Christmas card; Little Blue Book; Advent Scripture Readings: Reading and praying over them; Advent Wreath. If you didn t have a chance last weekend, I invite each family to take a piece of paper from a basket, with an address of a fellow parishioner written on it. Baskets will be by the entrances of churches. I invite you to pray for that parishioner and their family. I also invite you, if you feel comfortable doing so, to send them a letter that we have provided for you by the basket. Fill out the letter side with your name or the name of your family, to let them know who is praying for them, and your mailing address, for them to mail it back. For those who receive this letter, if you feel comfortable, fill out the information on the Prayer Partner Form side and send it back to your Prayer Partner. This Prayer Partner Program seeks to help us grow in prayer and draw us so ever closer together as brothers and sisters as part of God s family the Church. 3 ADVENT THEME iturgy All the Old Testament readings for Mass Intentions & the season of Advent are messages Week of December 4, 2016 inistry of hope and promise. They come from prophets whose mission was from Donna to remind God's people that they Saturday 3 were indeed "called by a promise 4:00 PM Peter & Theresa Mathis of peace and justice." Perhaps questions we might ask ourselves People of the Parish St. Mary are: "How do I say yes to the Lord's invitation?" "How do I put Sunday 4 Second Sunday of Advent into daily practice what I hear God's Word saying?" "Which 8:30 AM Joseph & Rosella Buechel actions of mine flow from charity and which from justice?" So get yours soon!! Here we go again. It is that time of year where I am constantly playing the guessing game as to which scrip will be the hot item this Christmas!!! Over the years I have learned two very valuable lessons. The first being that it will not be the popular card from last year and the second is that it will be something totally not popular the rest of the year. So that being said, Please, if you know for sure you need something please call and order it in advance. My last scrip order that will guarantee delivery in time for Christmas will be placed on December 19 th at 12:00 pm. Local Scrip Merchant of the Week Out-O-Town Supper Club You deserve a night out.
