4 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time January 28, 2018 Fr. Phil Reflec ons for 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time Cycle B Jesus spoke with authority as He cured people and took away their demons. Jesus introduced a new way, the kingdom of God. Jesus knew His people and expanded who His people were and greatly loved them. Please no ce that Jesus even dealing with a difficult crowd or His enemies showed authority that was full of love and libera ng. From the very beginning of His ministry Jesus had to deal with difficult groups of people at different mes. Anyone who listened to Jesus knew He was a special compassionate teacher who healed people. The Gospel (the Good News) is all about the way that Jesus lived His teachings and showed His compassion for others. All of us too are called to such holiness. We all need the help of Jesus to change our lives. There is spiritual nourishment and hope from the words of Jesus if we seek to live them. The good news also is that as a result of Bap sm we are also God s kin and we are given the authority to teach Jesus way and overcome evil. Please no ce that Jesus tells us that it is by God s power that He is able to drive out demons. Embracing the life that God offers us do we see the goodness of those closest to us? Do we see Jesus in our family members? Do we like and love people and see people as the beau ful crea on of God just as Jesus did? A brief message from Fr. Phil Due to the increase in flu cases effec ve immediately communion will be under one species. This decision will be reviewed periodically. For the sign of peace it is appropriate to bow instead of a handshake if you choose. Church authori- es are sugges ng to receive the host (the Body of Christ) in the hand to possibly cut down the possibility of spreading germs. Reflec ons on Forgiveness and the Sacrament of Reconcilia on: It is of major importance that all of us understand how serious forgiveness is for the health of our spiritual lives. In recent history the Sacrament of Reconcilia on is not understood or fully appreciated for the inner healing it brings. The confessing of sins and receiving absolu on can help us to feel be er about life and ourselves. In addi on receiving forgiveness from God and others can help us to experience God s love, remove resentment and increase gra tude. It is always quite clearly a means to inner peace. We may also need to let go of our own hurts and pains and forgive others as well as ourselves. When we do not forgive ourselves or hold resentments toward others we hurt ourselves. When we do not forgive others we hurt ourselves. Many mes when we reconcile with others we bring them and ourselves great comfort and hope. MASSES ON WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 3rd & 4th Masses on next Weekend will be offered for Prayer and Penance at the request of Cardinal Sean. This is happening in response to Pope Francis call for a Day of Prayer and Penance in recogni on of harm done by clergy sexual abuse within the church. It will be an opportunity to seek repentance for the sins of the church, to pray for all those who were abused, and to pray for con nued healing for all who were impacted by abuse. This is being men oned so that you can make appropriate decisions for your children as the topic of clergy sexual abuse will be addressed during Mass. Please let others know par cularly someone who might want to a end. If you know of anyone who has been sexually abused by clergy or a member of the church, please let them know that the Office of Pastoral Support and outreach is there to help. To report abuse or seek help please call FEAST OF ST. BLAISE Saturday, February 3rd is the Feast of Saint Blaise. The Blessing of Throats will be offered a er all the weekend Masses. 4
