We are worshipping God, whose Word is true and whose love is trustworthy, and our aim is to fix our eyes on the author and the finisher of our faith Jesus. A,$ T$ % H'% Fairest Lord Jesus has been traced to the Jesuits in Munster, and was first published in The tune is a folk song from Westphalia. My Faith Looks Up to Thee was wriaen by Ray Palmer when he was teaching at a girls school in New York City, a job he held to support himself while studying theology in preparation for ordination. The tune is by Lowell Mason specifically for Palmer s text and remains one of his best known hymn tunes. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross is based on Galatians 2:20 and Philippians 3:7, and was wriaen by the great English hymn writer Isaac WaAs. The tune is also by Lowell Mason, and is adapted from a Gregorian chant and employs only five notes of the scale. Mason composed over 1,600 hymn tunes, and was also a pioneer in music education during the nineteenth century. It Is a Thing Most Wonderful John Ireland This text is by William Walsham How, who served as bishop of Wakefield, England, during the nineteenth century. John Ireland was a prominent twentieth century English composer. It is a thing most wonderful, Almost too wonderful to be, That God s own Son should come from heaven and die to save a child like me. And yet I know that it is true: He chose a poor and humble lot, And wept, and toiled, and mourned, and died, for love of those who loved him not. I sometimes think about the Cross, And shut my eyes, and try to see The cruel nails and crown of thorns, And Jesus crucified for me.
