UNITED CHURCH OF DORSET AND EAST RUPERT The purpose of this church is to instill in its congregation the consciousness of the presence of God in each individual person, to worship God, to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, to celebrate the Sacraments, to teach and encourage the application of Christian values individually and collectively, and to render loving service to all humankind in the search for righteousness, justice and peace. Article 2, Constitution and By-Laws of the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert REV. DR. JAMES H. GRAY, PASTOR JANE WOOD, MUSIC DIRECTOR JANE A. LOBRUTTO, ADMINISTRATOR

~ WORSHIP SERVICE ~ JUNE 7, 2015 ~ ~ TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME~ NURSERY CARE AND CHURCH SCHOOL Babies and children of all ages are invited, welcomed and encouraged in worship services. We have a basket in the narthex filled with children's worship activities to use during the worship service. We have a nursery available for newborns and toddlers for your convenience. The nursery room is staffed with two volunteers who would be happy to care for your child while you attend worship. You may drop your children off in the nursery room at 9:45 a.m. and pick them up immediately following worship. All children aged three through 12 are invited to go to church school following the TIME WITH THE YOUNG. SILENT MEDITATION Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of life s longing for itself. They came through you but not from you and though they are with you yet they belong not to you. Khalil Gibran You don t choose your family. They are God s gift to you, as you are to them. Desmond Tutu GATHERING MUSIC God s Wonderful People Megan LoBrutto WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS, PASSING OF GOD S PEACE AS WE BEGIN OUR WORSHIP, NOW IS OUR TIME TO SPEAK TO GOD ENTER THE FLAME AND THE WORD Luke Chila,Acolyte, Isabella Chila Beadle CHORAL INTROIT CALL TO WORSHIP L: All who need a place to belong... 3 *UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION L: The Lord be with you. P: And also with you. L: Let us pray. ALL: God, we so often lose our way. You as our King lead us on right paths, teach us the ways of truth and life, shelter us from our foes; yet we look for the rulers of this earth for our leadership, wisdom, and strength. You love us as our Father, you nurture us as our Mother, you shelter us as our Brother and assure us as our Sister, yet we look elsewhere for love, compassion and hope. Open your arms to us once more, O God. We want to be your people and we want you to be our God and King. MOMENT OF SILENT CONFESSION *UNISON ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS Christ looks to each of us and says: Here are my mother and my brothers. Here are my father and my sisters. Whoever does the will of God is my brother, sister, mother, father. As the family of God, as brother and sisters of Christ, we are loved and forgiven by our gracious God. *THE LORD S PRAYER (trespasses) GLORIA PATRI Glory Be To The Father and To The Son And To The Holy Ghost. as It Was In The Beginning, is Now And Ever Shall Be; world Without End, Amen, Amen. 4 AS WE CONCLUDE OUR WORSHIP NOW IS THE TIME TO RESPOND TO GOD S WORD OFFERTORY Remember Me Govenor *DOXOLOGY Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen PRAYER OF DEDICATION SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION *HYMN (CH) #425 Let Us Break Bread Together v. 1 WORDS OF INVITATION THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Please join the pastor at the table for your part in the service. People: People: People: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Why do we give thanks at this table? We give thanks for God s creation, for making us in God s image. We give thanks because God never gave up on us, even though we were not faithful to God. We give thanks because when it was time, God sent the only Son, Jesus, to show God s love for us. How do we praise God for all this? With all the faithful of every time and place, this song is sung to God s glory:

People: People: People: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna in the highest! What do we remember at this table? We remember God s Son, Jesus: He healed the sick and restored sight to the blind; He welcomed strangers and ate with outcasts. Dying on the cross, he saved us from our sins, Risen from the dead, he gives us new life. How are we able to remember? We are able to remember because of the gift of the Holy Spirit, God s first gift to those who believe, who will complete God s work in the world. Why do we eat bread at this table? On the night before he died, Jesus took bread, blessed it, and gave it to his friends. He told them to eat it and remember him. And ministering in Jesus name we do likewise. Why do we drink from the cup at this table? After the meal, Jesus took the cup, and gave it to them as the promise that our sins are forgiven. And ministering in Jesus name, we do likewise. But this is just everyday bread and grape juice. Let us pray that the everyday bread and juice will become holy: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these your gifts of bread and cup, that the bread we break and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body and blood of Christ.

People: All: Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, In the unity of the Holy Spirit, All glory and honor are yours, Almighty God, now and forever. Amen. Since this meal brings us together with all Christians, let us pray for the needs of the world, the church, and all of God s children. (The pastor offers prayers asking God to help all those in need.) Now, together let us pray the family prayer that Jesus taught us: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. *HYMN (CH) # 558 Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us *BENEDICTION

Morgan Bazyk In my upcoming year I plan to attend the University of Tampa again as a sophomore. I will continue in the athletic training program as I now enter the professional phase. I will now be spending twenty-five hours a week with athletes in the clinic and helping them with injuries. This hands-on experience not only provides a great way to learn, but valuable time spent with athletes to really see what the profession is like. During my first semester, I will be taking a lot of courses in the medical field similar to the nursing program. In my second semester I will be in the clinic a lot more doing hands on work. I look forward to this year and the challenges that it will bring! Meg Chandler After spending last semester in Nepal, I am looking forward to being back on campus at St. Lawrence University this fall. I am continuing down the path of being a Global Studies major, and look forward to actively partaking in activities led by the Outing Club as well as other groups on campus. In the spring, I plan to study abroad on the St. Lawrence Kenya Semester. P. S. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers after the earthquake in Nepal. Matthew DeCesare Matthew has completed his first year at Roger Williams University and is pursuing a program in Engineering Construction Management. Cody Gilbert I am attending the University of Pittsburgh in the Fall. I plan on studying Psychology with interests in business and marketing. I am very excited for the big change to a city and a school of 18,000. But, I am most excited for the sports in the city of Pittsburgh and at the college. Erik Gray Over the past year I have been working towards my PhD in social psychology at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. My current research focuses on the different factors that lead to happy and healthy relationships among married and dating couples. I hope to apply this research to create at-home interventions that can help couples strengthen their relationship. In addition to working on my own research and taking courses towards my degree, I also teach a course in research methodology to sophomore and junior psychology majors. I ve found the past year to be incredibly rewarding and can only hope that the coming years are as enjoyable. I am grateful to the Dorset Church for its ongoing support. Walker May In the fall of 2015 I will be attending Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY. My concentration will be music in performance on my instrument of choice, the guitar. The main styles that I will be pursuing are jazz and jazz/funk fusion, however my goal is to become a well-rounded musician and guitarist. I will also be pursuing a rigorous liberal arts education. Along with this, I will be playing Division III soccer. Mia Nassivera Mia will enter her final year at Green Mountain College where she will receive a BA in Art and will pursue a career as an artist, designer and/or photographer. Ellen Parent I ve been teaching in various settings since graduating from Wheaton College with a degree in Creative Writing, and have just returned from a year of teaching English in France. In the fall I will be enrolling in a teaching certification program through Champlain College. During the program I'll work full-time in a Burlington-area high school while also taking classes, and will finish with my license to teach secondary school English and a year of experience in the field. Julien Thurrott Julien is a student at Lesley University and is majoring in Creative Writing with a Minor in Spanish. She is planning on being a fiction/poetry writer. This summer she will do an internship on a farm with a non-profit organization called LEAP that works to give blind college students opportunities to be in a working environment.

ANNOUNCEMENTS MEMORIAL SERVICE Celebrating the life of Robert H. Voorhis, Jr. (Sally Wicks brother) will be held here at the Dorset Church this afternoon at 2:00 GARDEN HELP TO AID THE COMMUNITY FOOD CUPBOARD. Enjoy a weekly hour (or more) of outdoor exercise while helping to fight hunger in our area. The garden is staffed by volunteers who enjoy being outdoors, planting, weeding and harvesting throughout the summer. Won't you help bring nutritional fresh vegetables to the food cupboard? Bring a friend. Bring a spouse. Bring children home on school vacation. Last year over 9,000 lbs. of fresh vegetables were harvested. With the growing number of food recipients, it would be wonderful to exceed that amount in Contact Emmy McCusker at for further details about scheduling. THE AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE On Thursday, July 16th, beginning at 10AM, the Dorset Church is sponsoring the 4 hour AARP Smart Driver Course. There will be an hour lunch break at noon and the class will recommence for the last 2 hours at 1PM. Please bring a sandwich or salad with you; refreshments will be served. The overall look and feel of this 4 hour AARP Smart Driver Course is entirely different from the past courses. It has been designed to include older adult learning strategies and is now more participant-friendly and easier to follow. As a result of completing the course, participants will learn researchbased strategies that can reduce the likelihood of their having a crash--note that since the first of the year older adults have been involved in about 1/3 of the fatalities in crashes in Vermont. In addition, the course can help to increase a driver's confidence, know how to drive safely when sharing the road with other road users, and learn of some of the newest safety and advanced features on today's cars. For AARP Members, the fee is $15; for Non-Members, it is $20. To sign up for this new and exciting course, please call Estelle at
