The Lord has chosen us; God desires to live among us. We are blessed to have God call us home. With God among us, we will be clothed with salvation; the faithful will shout for joy! With a faithful shout, we proclaim Christ our King! May the corners of the earth hear our cry: Jesus Christ is our King! 3 *Prayer of Confession You, God, are our one and only King. We beg your forgiveness for the other kings that we kneel before: money power gossip self righteousness racial privilege We beg your forgiveness, we who are broken and torn apart by our own doings and un-doings. Guide us to be your servants. Lead us to trust in you as the only king we need. Direct our faith in your sovereign power as we strive to follow your Son, through the power of your Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen. *Kyrie *Assurance of Forgiveness We have done wrong to God our king but the good news of the gospel is this: God has chosen mercy over vengeance. Together, through the waters of our baptism, we have been cleansed of our sin and are redeemed as beloved servants of a merciful King. Alleluia! Amen! Page 3

Also, there is one head of the body, and it is suited to the body. Therefore, the Church cannot have any other head besides Christ. For as the Church is a spiritual body, so it must also have a spiritual head in harmony with itself. Neither can it be governed by any spirit other than the Spirit of Christ. Good Questions for Reflection Jesus said that his kingdom is not of this world and that belonging to his way of life means a constant attentiveness to his voice. How are you (individually and as a community) embodying the countercultural reign of God? What is a further step that you are being called to take? How might you make more time to listen for his voice? Household Prayer: Morning Gracious God, help me to receive this day as gift: in the tasks for which I do not feel prepared, in the needs I am not strong enough to meet. In my caution and in my confidence teach me to listen for your voice and to watch for your provision. Grant me the gift of life in community, that I might witness your desire flowing through others, that I might be joined to greater service, for I pray in the name of Jesus, whose every breath was praise. 6 Household Prayer: Evening Lord of life, as I recollect this day, help me to recognize your witness in truth that challenged convenience, in decisions that stretched my heart, in forgiveness freely offered. Teach me to trust the sound of your voice and to follow where you lead, for I would serve in the shelter of your reign. Amen.
