1 UNITED CHURCH OF DORSET AND EAST RUPERT MARCH 15, 2015
2 WORSHIP SERVICE ~ MARCH 15, 2015 ~ FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT ~ HEALING SERVICE NURSERY CARE AND CHURCH SCHOOL Babies and children of all ages are invited, welcomed and encouraged in worship services. We have a basket in the narthex filled with children's worship activities to use during the worship service. We have a nursery available for newborns and toddlers for your convenience. The nursery room is staffed with two volunteers who would be happy to care for your child while you attend worship. You may drop your children off in the nursery room at 9:45 a.m. and pick them up immediately following worship. All children aged three through 12 are invited to go to church school following the TIME WITH THE YOUNG. SILENT MEDITATION The human body is very truthful. It rarely lies. Our minds may deceive us, but the body does not. It speaks it's truth to you in health and illness. It speaks to you in its aging. It speaks to you in accidents. It speaks to you in its strengths and weaknesses. It speaks to you about the whole wide world. The body isn't only its outside appearance and surface, the body is the whole, including its depth and its mechanism. The outside gives us the senses to connect with the innards, so that we can learn from the body's wonderful intelligence. If you attend to it, it will tell you how to be the way the Divine Creator intended. Before we hastily heal the body, we must listen to it and learn. Your body is holy place of belonging and learning. It is a sacred temple. (From Arnim Cara, A Book of Celtic Wisdom, by John O'Donohue) GATHERING MUSIC Jesu, The Very Thought of Thee Wesley/Clairvaux arr. Easso Peter Davis WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS, PASSING OF GOD S PEACE AS WE BEGIN OUR WORSHIP, NOW IS OUR TIME TO SPEAK TO GOD ENTER THE FLAME AND THE WORD Acolyte, Irén Hangen Vazquez ; Beadle, Evangeline Bulick CHORAL INTROIT CALL TO WORSHIP (From Celtic Prayers From Iona by J. Philip Newell) L: O Christ of the least of the world yet favored by God. 0 Christ of the Wounded and Wonderful. P: Come close to us this day, that we may come close to you. L: As you watch with care at our shaping, P: Look on us now with grace. L: As you blessed the world with the sun's first rising, P: Shine on us now with love. L: Let us worship God.
3 *HYMN (CH) # 560 Leaning on the Everlasting Arms *UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION L: The Lord be with you. P: And also with you. L: Let us pray. ALL: We confess, 0 Lord, how often we lead you instead of follow. We lead you to support our political preferences instead of following Yours. We lead you to into our religious rituals, thinking You love them as much as we. We lead you by our priorities of life instead of following Yours. We follow you only till You tell us to leave what we love. We follow you only as far as it gives us what we desire, but when You tell us to sacrifice, we turn away. We follow you only till You tell us to love people we'd rather not. We follow you only as long as it satisfies us but when You challenge us we demure. Forgive us, 0 Lord, and put us back on the right path - behind You. Amen. MOMENT OF SILENT CONFESSION *UNISON ASSURANCE OF PARDON One night I dreamed I was walking a beach with the Lord. I saw scenes of my life and two sets of footprints in the sand. But I noticed during the worst times of life, there was only one set of footprints. So I asked the Lord, "Why, Lord, when I needed you the most, did you leave me alone?" He said to me, "My precious child, I would never leave you. When you saw only one set of footprints during your worst times of life it was then that I was carrying you." *THE LORD S PRAYER (trespasses) GLORIA PATRI Glory Be To The Father and To The Son And To The Holy Ghost. as It Was In The Beginning, is Now And Ever Shall Be; world Without End, Amen, Amen. TIME WITH THE YOUNG PRAYER OF PASTORAL CARE OFFERTORY Shall We Gather at the River? Arr. McIver *DOXOLOGY Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen PRAYER OF DEDICATION
