3 Page 3 December is the Month of the Immaculate Coneption The month of December is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. "From all eternity God chose with infinite wisdom the woman who would be the Mother of His divine Son. To prepare for the Word Incarnate a spotless and holy tabernacle, God created Mary in grace and endowed her from the moment of her conception with all the perfections suited to her exalted dignity. St. Thomas teaches that through her intimacy with Christ, the principle of grace, she possessed beyond all creatures a fullness of divine life." Liturgical Meditations, The Sisters of St. Dominic This feast invites us to meditate on the virtue of purity. "Mary alone 'our tainted nature's solitary boast' never saw her soul's purity darkened with the dust of any stain, nor did she see in any part of her triumphal course toward heaven any sin or trace of worldliness. By a unique and singular privilege from God she was preserved from original sin from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception; by another privilege derived from the first, the Lord did not permit her ever to be stained even with those unavoidable failings of human weakness." Social Justice The Gospel, Jesus reminds us to SERVE others and QUEEN OF PEACE HAS DONE JUST THAT! Compliments go out to QP Social Justice members and various families of Queen of Peace who have been taking on extra dates at SERVE CITY (a homeless shelter in Hamilton). Steve (who works there) has been so impressed with Queen of Peace stepping up and taking dates if a group has backed out at the last minute. He said, "We can always count on Queen of Peace!" WAY TO GO and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! With the monies from our cookie sale and the yard sale, we were also able to supply the shelter residents with towels and bars and gloves. Dates for 2018 Serve City are: Wednesdays; February 21, April 4, May 20, August 15, October 17, and December 19. Saturdays; January 27, March 31, June 30, September 29, and December 29. If you or a group would like to assist in any way, please contact, Jan Sunderhaus at Vicki Cross at (vcross2349@aol.com), or Sarah Dillhoff at (sdillhoff@gmail.com).

For the past 23 years, the 7th & 8th grade PREP class, with help from other young people in the parish, has baked home-made cookies to accompany the gifts provided by the parish. It is an excellent way for them to serve others in need. The students do a super job and are very proud of their accomplishments when it is finished. Parents are invited to come and join in the fun. Help is needed supervising the baking process in the kitchen. We will begin at 9 AM in the cafeteria and bake until the last batch is finished and the kitchen & cafeteria are cleaned, approximately 2 PM. The students are welcome to show up when they can and leave whenever necessary. We will be baking the following types of cookies: Chocolate Chip, Peanut butter, Rolled Sugar cut-outs, Spritz, Snickerdoodles and Russian Teacakes. I will bring prepared dough for the Sugar cookies as this must to be refrigerated before rolling. This provides dough to be cut, decorated and baked right away. We ask that you help by donating some of the basic ingredients or consider a monetary donation for more perishable items, such as eggs, margarine, etc. Below is a list of ingredients you could donate and send with your son or daughter when they come. Margarine sticks, Eggs, Flour, Sugar - granulated, brown & powdered, Baking soda Baking powder, Cinnamon, Peanut butter, Chocolate chips Nuts - walnuts or pecans, Decorations - colored, sugar, decorettes or colored jimmies, Hershey Kisses, & Food coloring Left over ingredients in unopened condition will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul for the groceries that they collect at Christmas. We will also need the bakers to bring with them basic items used to mix cookie dough: cookie sheets, mixing bowls and spoons, measuring cups and measuring spoons, cookie cutters, and rolling pins. Kitchenaide stand mixers are extremely helpful in mixing the dough. Please put names on these items & be sure your student is able to identify them in order to get them back to you. Please call if you would like more information. Thank you, Ann Boehm
