1 Calamvale Salvation Army We are called to: love God, with all our heart and soul and mind and strength; to love others as ourselves; to make disciples From The Officers Desk A new year stands before us 365 days of walking with the Lord, of growing in Him and enjoying the adventure He has planned for us. And we get to start this by dedicating 168 hours in prayer to God! But let s not stop there let s make this a year to intentionally spend more time with God, to learn to listen to Him better and to become more courageous in being obedient to Him. The call remains the same: to love God with all our heart and soul and mind and strength, to love others as ourselves and to make disciples. If we intentionally focus on this, then our lives, our churches and our community will be transformed! We are excited to see what God is going to do in our church and community this year join with us in expecting the unexpected! WELCOME HAMPER FOR WINNIE Lt Winnie will be arriving in Brisbane on Thursday, 8 th January to set up her new home and begin her ministry with us. We would like to welcome her and make her move a little easier by giving her a welcome hamper, containing predicts for her pantry and bathroom. There is a box in the foyer near the Book Nook for you to place your gifts in. Please also be praying for her during this transition. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 January 2015 The Hindles: Move into their new home (the School for Officer Training, 120 Kingsland Road, Bexley North) on 12 th January and will be commencing their training soon after. Please continue to pray for Mic, Katrina, Jacob and Emmalyn during this time of transition. 2 24/7 Prayer What a privilege, what a joy, what a blessing to set aside a whole week for non-stop prayer and seeking the presence of God! Scripture is rich with stories of people earnestly seeking God and experiencing amazing things. We think back to our 24/7 prayer week last year and remember the joy, blessing, encouragement and answered prayers we received. YOUTH GROUP BREAK UP This year our 24/7 prayer week begins at midday on Sunday, 18 th January and will conclude at midday on Sunday, 25 th January. A roster will soon be available to sign up for your time to pray and this will also be available on-line, as last year. You can access this and sign up here: Again, the hall will be open throughout this time and a prayer room will be set up. We would love to have people come and help set up on Saturday, January 17 th, from 10am. The South QLD Division will be praying and fasting 24/7 from Wednesday 18 th February till Sunday 29 th March and again, we will be taking a day during this period for prayer for the Division. Let s get excited about experiencing the presence of God in a new and powerful way as this New Year begins. 3 4

3 THE BOOK NOOK Let us enjoy the amazing resources that we have on display in the foyer. Rediscover The Book Nook The Salvation Army flag is a symbol of the Army's war against sin and social evil. The red on the flag symbolises the blood shed by Christ, the yellow for the fire of the Holy Spirit and the blue for the purity of God the Father. The flag precedes outdoor activities such as a march of witness. It is used in ceremonies such as the dedication of children and the swearing-in of soldiers. It is sometimes placed on the coffin at the funeral of a Salvationist. Each month a book or books relevant to our theme will be reviewed in the newsletter and on DISPLAY in the Book Nook. If the book is of interest to you please feel free to borrow it for the month, just pop your name and the date that you borrowed the book in the folder. If you feel that you would like to share your thoughts on the book we can place it in the news letter the following month. Our gracious and merciful God, At the closing of 2014, I come to you with gratitude for protecting and guiding me. I thank you for the journey, with its joys and pains - and your grace never fails. I come to you with joy for enriching me with people around me. I thank you for their example, support and care - and your love never fails. I come to you with commitment and excitement with the new year ahead. I thank you for your wonderful plans in my life, and eternity assured as my inheritance - and your promises never fail. I hope you are all fit and ready to roll up your sleeves and show the Lord we appreciate his gift of our church by keeping it maintained. As some of our members have moved away we have vacancies to fill. Please think about helping and act on it. As a church family let us come together and work as one. Remember you carry out your commitment only once a month at any time that suits you. There are jobs at all levels of fitness. The main aim is to come together and work as one. Michael, Katrina & family as they begin their studies at the Salvation Army Training College. our church children & young people as they start primary school and High school and cope with new classrooms and teachers. 7 Prayer Week. May people be drawn closer to God as they spend time in prayer. Our new officer Lt. Winnie Ng as she moves and settles into her new home. For those who are lonely, sick or going through difficult times. We Praise God for answered prayer - many have been healed & needs have been met - Thank you Jesus!!
