5 OUR VILLAGE CHURCH - THE WEEK THAT WAS Friday s Men s Breakfast update: Cold weather met with warm conversation! Despite the wet weather and several regulars travelling in hotter climates, great nourishment and warmth of conversation was had at the Men s Breakfast on Friday at 1001 Nights. Amongst the eleven in attendance was Roger Vass, who together with his wife Jenny, have recently joined our Village Church community. Roger was warmly welcomed along. The Men s breakfast is held on the last Friday of the month. This week...with Cam It s been a significant week for the Village church, working through a variety of pastoral matters, beginnings and endings that make the rich diversity of our shared community life. Such a big week too for church groups and our children s and youth programs. Funeral Help We could do with another couple of people to help in the kitchen on Monday at 1pm for Mardi Davies funeral. Choir It was great to see the choir return last night for a new season of song. So many new faces joining, and some lovely music and a cantata selected for between now and Christmas. I joked there may be more people in the choir than the rest of the congregation Sunday! Phones As part of a school project, Esther my daughter is collecting old mobile phones that you have lying about for recycling. There is a box in the church foyer. SMASH A reminder to contact Jade if you can do some cooking for this program through the September school holidays.
6 Tickets are available from David Arnott or Cam Opie.
7 The next meeting of the Craft group is coming up on Friday 7 September from 11am 3:00pm at The Village Church. 8 S Your vote can help Fusion s dream become reality! Fusion has a dream of a social enterprise Retro Thrift Shop and Community Cafe on the Mornington Peninsula, designed as a local space to share life with the young and old, values of community wellbeing will be placed alongside those of profitability. The Thrift Shop would provide an ONGOING INCOME STREAM for their work and serve as a community hub for trainees, volunteers and visitors. The team will run mentoring programs supporting the young and old to work alongside one another and renovate, repurpose and sell donated goods. Vulnerable young people will develop employable skills and healthy connections to the local community. We will have another space to run training and youth programs servicing schools further down the Peninsula and Community groups will be invited to use the cafe/meeting space for classes and get togethers. The potential of this dream is endless! How you can help? Please vote and also spread the word! To vote: 1. Register for a pick my project account (link below) 2. Select Mt Martha postcode Pick Fusion s Retro Thrift Shop and 2 more of your favourite projects to vote for. Verify your mobile number and submit your votes. Whether Fusion get the $110,000 or not is now purely based on VOTES! Help make it a reality and VOTE for Fusion s project to receive the start up funding in the Pick My Project Community Grants Initiative.
9 The Village Church Giving update... With Marilyn Mason s recent return from a wonderful overseas holiday, we are now in a position to provide an update on the Giving initiative held earlier in the year. First and foremost, the Church Council are incredibly appreciative for all the giving and generosity that takes place throughout our church community. This occurs in lots of different ways and all contributing to the life and vibrancy of the Village Church: personal gifts expressed through ministries of care for people both within and beyond the church, care for our facilities, church management, outreach and supporting our worship. We cannot exist without all these contributions so again, thank you. With respect to our Giving initiative, we are delighted to let you know we had a great result, with a positive increase much larger than expected. Our increased income will be used to support the increase in utilities, insurances, maintenance, staffing and community ministries, which the Council believes are a vital part of our mission and telling our story, helping us fulfil our overarching vision: Following Jesus and walking together, the Village Church aspires to live God s unconditional love. We live Christian faith with integrity and meaning and, with a servant heart, we offer a place of welcome, care, inclusion and healing. With our sincere thanks and appreciation The Village Church Council
