But this is an unjust world, a world where fear and envy, greed and ignorance abound. And many people are not treated as God intended. Acting justly is not an optional extra for people of faith. It should be an essential part of who we are as followers of Jesus. We are to be living examples of Kingdom values such as grace, justice, mercy and love. To do justice requires knowing how to recognise injustice when we see it. This means becoming informed about the issues, knowing the facts and not being misled by prejudice and ignorance. As Christians we are called to be salt and light in this world, to let our light shine in the darkness the light of hope and the light of God s love. This means speaking out against injustice, standing up for the oppressed and making a difference. This book is full of ideas and suggestions about how you and your family, your Church or local community can stand up against injustice and try to bring about a more just world. Together we can be a powerful force for good. We can make a difference. 2 Remember in Prayer: Beth Stoodley. Pray for her continued healing. Pray for the senior members of our corps. A number have health issues Captains Tim & Laura and their Children. Sam Coulter as he develops the Life program at our corps. Chris Love and the Community Schools program. Thank God for workers to assist with Red cap Program. For the staff & participants at CRS. Nicole Smith as she works with CRS participants and with clients from the community. Please pray that these folk will keep appointments they make with Nicole and do all they can to engage in the process of healing. Deanne Macleod and her ministry through VIF S (Very Important Families). Give thanks for those who have attended. Thank God for support of the ladies from Wollongong Corps. Alan Jessop and his weekly ministry at the Canberra Centre. Thank God for those who are accepting opportunities of service within the corps. Pray that others will join them in ministry. Trijntje and the Patchwork group as they continue their projects for Orana Lodge Pray for our Junior Soldiers and their leaders Chris and Danielle. Pray for candidates to enter the Training College in March Majors Peter & Eileen that God will reveal His plan for them in Corps Bible Studies. CAMEO. Pray that those who attend will enjoy the Christian fellowship and grow in faith. The development of the YP Ministries at Canberra City. For the women attending the Divisional Women s Camp at Greenhills (18 21 Oct). Pray that they will be blessed as they reflect on God s love. Please also pray for our young people: A few weeks ago our Junior Soldier s lead our meeting. They did a wonderful job under the leadership of Chris Love and Danielle Hillier, and with a few older young people helping them out. We are in the process of determining other options of ministry to the children in our church and community there are posters on the noticeboard in the YP hall for you to make your own comments. We would encourage you to pray for all our young people and how we can reach the young people in our community. Pray that God will keep us as a corps focused on the 7 Mission Priorities: 1. A territory marked by prayer & holiness 2. Our whole territory in every place involved in evangelism 3. Corps healthy and multiplying 4. Our people equipped and empowered to serve the world 5. The territory passionate about bringing children to Jesus 6. Youth trained and sent out to frontline mission 7. Significant increase of new soldiers and officers

None other than our hard working Street Ministry volunteer Alan Jessop. Did you know? Alan visits the Canberra Centre 3 days a week. He has collected for the corps for 22 years. He turned 80 last July He and Joy celebrate 55 years of marriage this year. Congratulations Alan and Joy and thank you to both of you from all at Canberra City Oasis Corps. Your commitment and dedication to serving in this way has made a HUGE contribution to the ministry of Canberra City Oasis. 6 News from Colonel James Condon (Chief Secretary) Please be advised that General Shaw Clifton and Commissioner Helen Clifton will no longer be visiting Australia Eastern Territory for the Commissioning in Sydney and the celebrations in Brisbane, officers councils etc. The General deeply regrets his inability now to fulfil his duties to come to Australia. He is recovering well following heart surgery but he does not believe it is wise to undertake a demanding schedule so soon after his heart surgery. Commissioners Barry and Sue Swanson, the Chief of the Staff and World Secretary for Women's Ministries will now be visiting in the place of the General and we look forward to warmly welcoming to Australia our new Chief of Staff and World Secretary for Women's Ministries. This will be their first visit to Australia and we assure them of our thoughts and prayers as they prepare and step in to replace the General and Commissioner Helen Clifton. What an exciting time for our church community on 5th September.
