Our Village Church - the week that was... The Village Church is a hive of activity, not just on Sundays, but through-out the week. The following is a window into the week that was in the vibrant life of our church. Playgroup is back in full swing Its been a busy first week back after school holiday break for Playgroup, with the children thoroughly enjoying the opportunity for stories, songs and lots of play with many and varied toys and activities set up by Barb. Parents also enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect after the 2 week break. While Tuesday s are now fully booked, there remain a few openings on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with Wednesdays our biggest opportunity to increase numbers. Please don t hesitate to refer any mums/ dads/ grandparents caring for young to preschool aged children to come along, as our Playgroup truly is a wonderful ministry of the church and a fantastic means of building community. This morning, we are going to listen to the witness of Dr Martin Luther King, in the last sermon he preached before his death, 50 years ago. I am using this because he is saying powerfully that when you know the end of a story it transforms the way you read the story: We know the way the story of this world ends, and it gives us hope. Hope in life beyond death and hope for God to transform this world. (Quote from Rev Robert Johnson in last week s sermon -15 April 2018)
Our Village Church Knitting News... Brrrr. We have had a few cold days which have been a warning of temperatures to come, however, at the moment I am sitting in the sun on a beautiful balmy day a perfect time for planning. Taking on board the Scout motto Be prepared, we must remember IT WILL GET COLD VERY COLD this year, which is why our Church project is knitting fingerless gloves, mittens or gloves. If you want a pattern for fingerless gloves please see Noel or Glen. Our knitting group have once again been prolific. To date this year we have: Knitted many blankets and children's wear for KOGO. Had a home knitter from Tyabb (in her 90s) who knitted teddies for the Frankston Hospital. It was our privilege to sew them up and turn them into teddies. She recently passed away and we have just received her last lot of teddies to sew up. She will have brought joy to many children and families in difficult times. Knitted and crocheted 20cm squares which have been sewn up into many colourful blankets. Knitted a variety of children's clothing, providing us with many oohs and aahs Our Knitting group, who meet at the church every Thursday from 1pm, would love to see new faces, so bring along your knitting or sewing up needles and enjoy companionship and conversation (and a few laughs) as we knit. You could also relax and knit 20 cm squares at home, as they are always welcome, as are fingerless gloves scarves or anything of your choosing. Needles and wool can be provided. Noel Baxter When knitting with a friend the laughter is worth the dropped stitches.
At The Village Church Church garden care program (adopt a church garden plot) An invitation to all members of the congregation to participate in the beautification of our church grounds. Taking of a small part of the church garden and grounds. Participants choose a time that suits them and set their own pace Plant your own choice of plants, in line with church guidelines. i.e., drought resistant, native, low maintenance. Are you interested and willing to take on a small part of the garden? Register your details on the form in the foyer, or contact: Doug Thring on or Anthony McCabe on
At The Village Church KUCA CHILDREN S PROGRAM KUCA is a program suited to school aged children: Junior KUCA 3:30 Fridays Senior KUCA 5:30 Fridays Crafts, Music, Stories, Sports and a Christian Message. As Junior and Senior KUCA recommenced on Friday 20th April, please encourage any school children you re in contact outside of our church community to come and give KUCA a go not only is it lots of fun for kids, but it s a fantastic ministry of our church. For further information, contact Ann Connan on Friday 27 April 9.00 am at 1001 Nights Cnr Mt Eliza Way & Canadian Bay Rd. Next door to the former Vogue House café Nights specialises in Middle Eastern Cuisine but serves any style of breakfast to satisfy all tastes.

At The Village Church For anyone interested in purchasing a ticket, you can do so directly from Bev Sleep, Yvonne Senn or Margaret Brown.
Outside The Village Church Working for Justice This week the chairman of UnitingWorld wrote to the church with a very deep concern that Australia s foreign aid budget is about to be reduced to well below the already low 0.2% of GDP, making Australia one of the least generous developed nations. Andrew says, UnitingWorld knows that assistance through partnerships can make an enormous difference to poor communities overseas. What is our role as an Australian church when faced with such a situation? Are we compelled by the actions of Jesus to speak up for the disadvantaged, not just in Australia, or in Mt Eliza, but globally? A template letter was attached in Cam s weekly this week or can be obtained from the Church office if you would like to lend your voice in encouraging the Australian government to re-think this possibility.
Outside the Village Church
Chomp and Chatter is on today. Please stay for a light meal after church to share together. It s a great opportunity to have more time getting to know each other and catch up. The next meeting of the Village Church Friendship Group will be held on Tuesday 24th th April at 1.30p.m. This month we will remember the ANZACS and those who were involved in The First World War. Stories and poems will be read and a display of photos, medals and other memorabilia will be presented. If you have any such items from WW1, you are welcome to bring them along to show and tell us of your connection with them. Everyone is welcome. Afternoon tea will be served including Anzac biscuits. Giving update from Cam. Hopefully you have received your giving letter from the church. Thank you to those who have returned their completed letters to Marilyn Mason, which are due by Sunday 29th April either to Marilyn directly or via the offering plate. I encourage you to consider how you might give to the church of your time, talents and money. Please consider how you can financially support the church, along with other charities, and how you can provide time and skill as well. Paul says to the Corinthians, Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
